1 As snow in summer and as rain in harvest, so honour is not suited for a fool.
1 Como a neve no verão e como a chuva na sega, assim não é conveniente ao louco a honra.
2 As the sparrow in its wandering, as the swallow in its flight, so the curse causeless shall never come.
2 Como o pássaro no seu vaguear, e como a andorinha no seu voo, assim a maldição sem causa não virá.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
3 O açoite é para o cavalo, o freio, para o jumento, e a vara, para as costas dos tolos.
4 Never answer a fool according to his folly lest thou also be like unto him.
4 Não respondas ao tolo segundo a sua estultícia, para que também te não faças semelhante a ele.
5 Answer the fool showing him his folly lest he be wise in his own conceit.
5 Responde ao tolo segundo a sua estultícia, para que não seja sábio aos seus olhos.
6 He that gives responsibility to one who is not able to carry it out [is like] him that sends a message by the hand of a fool, and he shall drink the damage.
6 Os pés corta e o dano bebe quem manda mensagens pelas mãos de um tolo.
7 Like unto the way that the [one who is] lame walks, so [is] a proverb in the mouth of the fool.
7 Como as pernas do coxo, que pendem frouxas, assim é o provérbio na boca dos tolos.
8 As he that binds the stone in the sling, so [is] he that gives honour to a fool.
8 Como o que prende a pedra preciosa na funda, assim é aquele que dá honra ao tolo.
9 [As] thorns sunk into the hand of one who is drunk, so [is] a proverb in the mouth of fools.
9 Como o espinho que entra na mão do ébrio, assim é o provérbio na boca dos tolos.
10 The great [God]that formed all [things] rewards both the fool and transgressors.
10 Como um besteiro que a todos espanta, assim é o que assalaria os tolos e os transgressores.
11 As a dog returns to his vomit, [so] the fool returns to his folly.
11 Como o cão que torna ao seu vômito, assim é o tolo que reitera a sua estultícia.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
12 Tens visto um homem que é sábio a seus próprios olhos? Maior esperança há no tolo do que nele.
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion in the way; a lion [is] in the streets.
13 Diz o preguiçoso: Um leão está no caminho; um leão está nas ruas.
14 [As] the door turns upon his hinges, so [does] the slothful upon his bed.
14 Como a porta se revolve nos seus gonzos, assim o preguiçoso, na sua cama.
15 The slothful hides his hand in [his] bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth.
15 O preguiçoso esconde a mão no seio; enfada-se de a levar à sua boca.
16 The sluggard [is] wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can give [him] counsel.
16 Mais sábio é o preguiçoso a seus olhos do que sete homens que bem respondem.
17 He that passes by [and] meddles with strife not [belonging] to him [is like] one that takes a dog by the ears.
17 O que, passando, se mete em questão alheia é como aquele que toma um cão pelas orelhas.
18 As a mad [man] who casts firebrands, arrows, and death,
18 Como o louco que lança de si faíscas, flechas e mortandades,
19 so [is] the man [that] destroys his friend and says, Am I not in sport?
19 assim é o homem que engana o seu próximo e diz: Fiz isso por brincadeira.
20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out, so where [there is] no talebearer, the strife ceases.
20 Sem lenha, o fogo se apagará; e, não havendo maldizente, cessará a contenda.
21 Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife.
21 Como o carvão é para o borralho, e a lenha, para o fogo, assim é o homem contencioso para acender rixas.
22 The words of a talebearer seem smooth, but they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
22 As palavras do maldizente são como deliciosos bocados, que descem ao íntimo do ventre.
23 Burning lips and a wicked heart [are like] a potsherd covered with silver dross.
23 Como o caco coberto de escórias de prata, assim são os lábios ardentes e o coração maligno.
24 He that hates dissembles with his lips and lays up deceit within him;
24 Aquele que aborrece dissimula com os seus lábios, mas no seu interior encobre o engano.
25 when he speaks fair, do not believe him, for [there are] seven abominations in his heart.
25 Quando te suplicar com a sua voz, não te fies nele, porque sete abominações há no seu coração.
26 Even though his hatred is covered up in the desert, his wickedness shall be showed before the [whole] congregation.
26 Ainda que o seu ódio se encobre com engano, a sua malícia se descobrirá na congregação.
27 Whosoever digs a pit shall fall therein, and he that rolls a stone, it will return upon him.
27 O que faz uma cova nela cairá; e o que revolve a pedra, esta sobre ele rolará.
28 A lying tongue hates [those that are] afflicted by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.:
28 A língua falsa aborrece aquele a quem ela tem maravilhado, e a boca lisonjeira opera a ruína.
