1 And Job answered and said,
1 Então em resposta Jó disse:
2 Oh that my grief and calamity were justly weighed and laid equally in the balances!
2 “Ah! Se a minha desgraça e os meus sofrimentos fossem postos numa balança,
3 For it would be heavier than the sand of the sea; therefore, my words are swallowed up.
3 com certeza pesariam mais do que a areia do mar. E foi por isso que falei com violência.
4 For the arrows of the Almighty [are] within me; my spirit drinks of the poison; and terrors of God combat me.
4 As flechas venenosas do Deus Todo-Poderoso estão fincadas em mim, e o veneno entra na minha alma. Com os seus ataques, Deus me tem enchido de terror.
5 Does the wild ass bray when he has grass? Does the ox low over his fodder?
5 O jumento fica contente quando come capim, e o boi não reclama quando tem pasto.
6 Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? Or is there [any] taste in the white of an egg?
6 Mas quem gosta de comida sem sal? Que gosto tem a clara do ovo?
7 The things [that] my soul refused to touch [before, now] by my sorrow [are] my food.
7 Não tenho apetite para comer essas coisas, e tudo o que como me faz mal.
8 Oh, that I might have my request and that God would grant [me] the thing that I long for!
8 “Ah! Se Deus me desse o que estou pedindo! Ah! Se Deus respondesse à minha oração!
9 Even that it would please God to destroy me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!
9 Então ele me tiraria a vida; ele me atacaria e acabaria comigo!
10 Then should my comfort grow; I would hold on to sorrow without mercy; for I have not contradicted the words of the Holy One.
10 Se eu soubesse que Deus faria isso, daria pulos de alegria, mesmo sofrendo muita dor. Pois Deus é santo, e eu nunca fui contra as suas decisões.
11 What [is] my strength that I should hope? What [is] my end that I should prolong my life?
11 Onde estão as minhas forças para resistir? Por que viver, se não há esperança?
12 [Is] my strength the strength of stones? Or [is] my flesh of steel?
12 Será que sou forte como a pedra? Será que o meu corpo é de bronze?
13 Am I not doing all that I can, and [even with all this] I lack the power to do anything?
13 Não sou capaz de me ajudar a mim mesmo, e não há ninguém que me socorra.
14 He that is afflicted [deserves] mercy from his friend; but he has forsaken the fear of the Almighty.
14 “Uma pessoa desesperada merece a compaixão dos seus amigos, mesmo que tenha deixado de ao Deus Todo-Poderoso.
15 My brethren have lied to me as a brook; they passed away as an impetuous stream,
15 Mas eu não pude contar com vocês, meus amigos, que me desapontaram como um riacho que seca no verão.
16 which was hidden by ice and covered by snow.
16 Primeiro ele está cheio de gelo e de neve,
17 Which in the time of heat, they vanish; when they are heated, they disappear out of their place;
17 mas depois vira água, que vai sumindo no calor, até que no fim o seu leito fica seco e duro.
18 they turn aside out of the paths of their way; they go to nothing and perish.
18 As caravanas se perdem procurando água; avançam pelo deserto e ali morrem.
19 The travelers of Tema looked; the traveling companies of Sheba waited for them.
19 Aquelas que vêm de Temá e de Sabá procuram esses ribeirões, cheias de esperança,
20 They were put to shame because of their hope; they came there and found them confused.
20 porém, quando chegam, todos ficam desapontados, e a sua esperança morre ali.
21 Now ye are certainly as they; ye have seen the torment and are afraid.
21 Vocês são como esses ribeirões; vocês veem a minha miséria e ficam com medo.
22 Did I say, Bring unto me and pay for me out of your substance
22 Por acaso, pedi que vocês me dessem qualquer coisa? Ou que me oferecessem um presente?
23 and deliver me from the enemy's hand and ransom me from the hand of the mighty?
23 Será que pedi que me salvassem de um inimigo ou que me livrassem das mãos dos bandidos?
24 Teach me, and I will be silent; and cause me to understand in what I have erred.
24 “Ensinem-me, que eu ficarei calado; mostrem os erros que cometi.
25 How forcible are the words of rectitude! But what does your argument reprove?
25 Quem fala a verdade convence, mas a acusação de vocês não prova nada.
26 Are ye not thinking up words of reproof and [throw] to the wind words that are lost?
26 Será que vocês querem criticar o que eu digo, querem tratar as palavras de um homem desesperado como se elas fossem vento?
27 Ye also overwhelm the fatherless and dig a pit before your friend.
27 Vocês seriam capazes de vender um órfão em leilão; vocês venderiam até mesmo um amigo!
28 Now, therefore, if ye desire, look upon me and [see] if I shall lie in your presence.
28 Olhem bem nos meus olhos e digam se estou mentindo.
29 Turn now, and there is no iniquity; return again [to look] for my righteousness in this.
29 Retirem o que disseram; não sejam injustos. Não me condenem; eu estou com a razão.
30 If there is iniquity in my tongue or if my taste cannot discern the torments.:
30 Vocês pensam que sou mentiroso? Será que não sei o que é certo e o que é errado?
