1 I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a maid?
1 Fiz aliança com meus olhos; como, pois, os fixaria eu numa donzela?
2 For what reward would God [give me] from above and [what] inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
2 Que porção, pois, teria eu do Deus lá de cima e que herança, do Todo-Poderoso desde as alturas?
3 Is there no destruction for the wicked? And banishment for the workers of iniquity?
3 Acaso, não é a perdição para o iníquo, e o infortúnio, para os que praticam a maldade?
4 Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?
4 Ou não vê Deus os meus caminhos e não conta todos os meus passos?
5 If I have walked with falsehood or if my foot has hastened to deceit,
5 Se andei com falsidade, e se o meu pé se apressou para o engano
6 let me be weighed in a just balance, that God may know my integrity.
6 (pese-me Deus em balanças fiéis e conhecerá a minha integridade);
7 If my step has turned out of the way and my heart walked after my eyes and if any blot has cleaved to my hands,
7 se os meus passos se desviaram do caminho, e se o meu coração segue os meus olhos, e se às minhas mãos se apegou qualquer mancha,
8 [then] let me sow, and let another eat, and let my offspring be rooted out.
8 então, semeie eu, e outro coma, e sejam arrancados os renovos do meu campo.
9 If my heart has been deceived regarding a woman, or [if] I have laid in wait at my neighbour's door,
9 Se o meu coração se deixou seduzir por causa de mulher, se andei à espreita à porta do meu próximo,
10 [then] let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her.
10 então, moa minha mulher para outro, e outros se encurvem sobre ela.
11 For this is lewdness and iniquity that is proven.
11 Pois seria isso um crime hediondo, delito à punição de juízes;
12 For it [is] a fire [that] consumes unto Sheol and would root out all my increase.
12 pois seria fogo que consome até à destruição e desarraigaria toda a minha renda.
13 If I had despised the right of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;
13 Se desprezei o direito do meu servo ou da minha serva, quando eles contendiam comigo,
14 what then would I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what would I answer him?
14 então, que faria eu quando Deus se levantasse? E, inquirindo ele a causa, que lhe responderia eu?
15 Did not he that made me in the belly [also] make him? And did not [the same] one fashion us in the womb?
15 Aquele que me formou no ventre materno não os fez também a eles? Ou não é o mesmo que nos formou na madre?
16 If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
16 Se retive o que os pobres desejavam ou fiz desfalecer os olhos da viúva;
17 or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof;
17 ou, se sozinho comi o meu bocado, e o órfão dele não participou
18 (for from my youth the [fatherless] was brought up with me, as [with] a father, and I have guided the [widow] from my mother's womb)
18 (Porque desde a minha mocidade cresceu comigo como se eu lhe fora o pai, e desde o ventre da minha mãe fui o guia da viúva.);
19 if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without [a] covering;
19 se a alguém vi perecer por falta de roupa e ao necessitado, por não ter coberta;
20 if his loins have not blessed me and [if] he were [not] warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
20 se os seus lombos não me abençoaram, se ele não se aquentava com a lã dos meus cordeiros;
21 if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw that they would all help me in the gate;
21 se eu levantei a mão contra o órfão, por me ver apoiado pelos juízes da porta,
22 [then] let my back fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from its joint.
22 então, caia a omoplata do meu ombro, e seja arrancado o meu braço da articulação.
23 For I feared destruction [from] God, against whose highness I could have no power.
23 Porque o castigo de Deus seria para mim um assombro, e eu não poderia enfrentar a sua majestade.
24 If I have made gold my hope or have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;
24 Se no ouro pus a minha esperança ou disse ao ouro fino: em ti confio;
25 if I rejoiced because my wealth [was] being multiplied, and because my hand had gotten much;
25 se me alegrei por serem grandes os meus bens e por ter a minha mão alcançado muito;
26 if I beheld the sun when it shone or the moon walking [in] beauty;
26 se olhei para o sol, quando resplandecia, ou para a lua, que caminhava esplendente,
27 and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth kissed my hand;
27 e o meu coração se deixou enganar em oculto, e beijos lhes atirei com a mão,
28 this would also be a proven iniquity; for I should have denied the God that is sovereign.
28 também isto seria delito à punição de juízes; pois assim negaria eu ao Deus lá de cima.
29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of the one that hated me or lifted up myself when evil found him;
29 Se me alegrei da desgraça do que me tem ódio e se exultei quando o mal o atingiu
30 for I have never even suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse upon his soul;
30 (Também não deixei pecar a minha boca, pedindo com imprecações a sua morte.);
31 when the servants of my tent said, Oh that we had of his flesh! We would never be satisfied.
31 se a gente da minha tenda não disse: Ah! Quem haverá aí que não se saciou de carne provida por ele
32 The stranger did not lodge in the street, [but] I opened my doors to the traveller.
32 (O estrangeiro não pernoitava na rua; as minhas portas abria ao viandante.)!
33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom;
33 Se, como Adão, encobri as minhas transgressões, ocultando o meu delito no meu seio;
34 if I feared a great multitude or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, [and] did not go out of the door?
34 porque eu temia a grande multidão, e o desprezo das famílias me apavorava, de sorte que me calei e não saí da porta.
35 Oh that someone would hear me! Behold, my mark [is], [that] the Almighty will testify for me, even though my adversary had written down the charges.
35 Tomara eu tivesse quem me ouvisse! Eis aqui a minha defesa assinada! Que o Todo-Poderoso me responda! Que o meu adversário escreva a sua acusação!
36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder [and] bind it [as] a crown to me.
36 Por certo que a levaria sobre o meu ombro, atá-la-ia sobre mim como coroa;
37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince I would go near unto him.
37 mostrar-lhe-ia o número dos meus passos; como príncipe me chegaria a ele.
38 If my land cries against me and all its furrows likewise complain;
38 Se a minha terra clamar contra mim, e se os seus sulcos juntamente chorarem;
39 if I ate of its strength without money or have afflicted the soul of its owners;
39 se comi os seus frutos sem tê-la pago devidamente e causei a morte aos seus donos,
40 let thistles grow up unto me instead of wheat and stinkweed instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.:
40 por trigo me produza cardos, e por cevada, joio. Fim das palavras de Jó.
