1 But now [those that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
1 Agora zombam de mim os mais jovens do que eu, aqueles cujos pais eu desdenharia de colocar com os cães de meu rebanho.
2 For, unto what [might] the strength of their hands [profit] me, in whom time was lost?
2 Que faria eu com o vigor de seus braços? Não atingirão a idade madura.
3 For want and famine [they walked] alone; fleeing into solitude, to the dark place, desolate and waste.
3 Reduzidos a nada pela miséria e a fome, roem um solo árido e desolado.
4 Who cut up mallows among the bushes and juniper roots [for] their food.
4 Colhem ervas e cascas dos arbustos, por pão têm somente a raiz das giestas.
5 They were driven forth from among [men] (they cried after them as [after] a thief).
5 São postos para fora do povo, gritam com eles como se fossem ladrões,
6 They dwelt in the clifts of the valleys, [in] caves of the earth, and [in] the rocks.
6 moram em barrancos medonhos, em buracos de terra e de rochedos.
7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
7 Ouvem-se seus gritos entre os arbustos, amontoam-se debaixo das urtigas,
8 [They were] sons of fools and men without names; they were lower than the earth.
8 filhos de infames e de gente sem nome que são expulsos da terra!
9 And now I am their song, and I am their byword.
9 Agora sou o assunto de suas canções, o tema de seus escárnios;
10 They abhor me, they distance themselves from me, and do not spare to spit in my face.
10 afastam-se de mim com horror, não receiam cuspir-me no rosto.
11 Because [God] has loosed my cord and afflicted me, they have also gone out of control before my face.
11 Desamarraram a corda para humilhar-me, sacudiram de si todo o freio diante de mim.
12 Upon [my] right [hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
12 À minha direita levanta-se a raça deles, tentam atrapalhar meus pés, abrem diante de mim o caminho da sua desgraça.
13 They cast down my path, they took advantage of my calamity, against them there was no helper.
13 Cortam minha vereda para me perder, trabalham para minha ruína.
14 They came in as through a wide breach; they were stirred up because of my calamity.
14 Penetram como por uma grande brecha, irrompem entre escombros.
15 They have loosed terrors upon me; they fought my will as the wind and my saving health as a cloud that passes.
15 O pavor me invade. Minha esperança é varrida como se fosse pelo vento, minha felicidade passa como uma nuvem.
16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
16 Agora minha alma se dissolve, os dias de aflição me dominaram.
17 My bones pierce me in the night, and my sinews take no rest.
17 A noite traspassa meus ossos, consome-os; os males que me roem não dormem.
18 By the great force [of my disease] my garment is changed; it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
18 Com violência segura a minha veste, aperta-me como o colarinho de minha túnica.
19 He has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes.
19 Deus jogou-me no lodo, tenho o aspecto da poeira e da cinza.
20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me; I present myself, and thou regardest me [not].
20 Clamo a ti, e não me respondes; ponho-me diante de ti, e não olhas para mim.
21 Thou art become cruel to me; with the strength of thy hand thou dost hate me.
21 Tornaste-te cruel para comigo, atacas-me com toda a força de tua mão.
22 Thou didst lift me up and cause me to ride upon the wind, and didst dissolve my being.
22 Arrebatas-me, fazes-me cavalgar o tufão, aniquilas-me na tempestade.
23 For I know [that] thou dost conduct me unto death and [to] the house appointed for all living.
23 Eu bem sei, levas-me à morte, ao lugar onde se encontram todos os viventes.
24 But he will not stretch out [his] hand against the grave; do those who are buried cry out when he destroys them?
24 Mas poderá aquele que cai não estender a mão, poderá não pedir socorro aquele que perece?
25 Did I not weep for the one that was in trouble? Was [not] my soul grieved for the needy?
25 Não chorei com os oprimidos? Não teve minha alma piedade dos pobres?
26 When I expected good, then evil came [unto me]; and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26 Esperava a felicidade e veio a desgraça, esperava a luz e vieram as trevas.
27 My bowels boil and do not rest; the days of affliction came upon me.
27 Minhas entranhas abrasam-se sem nenhum descanso, assaltaram-me os dias de aflição.
28 I went about darkened, but not by the sun; I stood up and cried out in the congregation.
28 Caminho no luto, sem sol; levanto-me numa multidão de gritos,
29 I have become a brother to dragons and a companion to owls.
29 tornei-me irmão dos chacais e companheiro dos avestruzes.
30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30 Minha pele enegrece-se e cai, e meus ossos são consumidos pela febre.
31 My harp is [turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of those that weep.:
31 Minha cítara só dá acordes lúgubres, e minha flauta sons queixosos.
