1 But now [those that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
1 “Mas agora homens mais moços do que eu zombam de mim. Os pais deles não valem nada; eu não poria essa gente nem com os cachorros que cuidam do meu rebanho.
2 For, unto what [might] the strength of their hands [profit] me, in whom time was lost?
2 De que me serviria a força dos seus braços? São homens magros,
3 For want and famine [they walked] alone; fleeing into solitude, to the dark place, desolate and waste.
3 enfraquecidos de tanto passar fome e miséria. À noite, na solidão de lugares desertos, eles têm de roer raízes secas.
4 Who cut up mallows among the bushes and juniper roots [for] their food.
4 Pegam ervas e cascas de árvores e se alimentam de raízes que não servem para comer.
5 They were driven forth from among [men] (they cried after them as [after] a thief).
5 São expulsos do meio das pessoas, que os espantam, aos gritos, como se eles fossem ladrões.
6 They dwelt in the clifts of the valleys, [in] caves of the earth, and [in] the rocks.
6 Têm de morar em barrancos medonhos, em cavernas ou nas rochas.
7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
7 Uivam no meio das moitas e se ajuntam debaixo dos espinheiros.
8 [They were] sons of fools and men without names; they were lower than the earth.
8 Raça inútil, gente sem nome, são enxotados do país.
9 And now I am their song, and I am their byword.
9 “Mas agora essa gente vem e zomba de mim; para eles eu não passo de uma piada.
10 They abhor me, they distance themselves from me, and do not spare to spit in my face.
10 Sentem nojo de mim e se afastam e chegam até a me cuspir na cara.
11 Because [God] has loosed my cord and afflicted me, they have also gone out of control before my face.
11 Deus me enfraqueceu e me humilhou, e por isso, furiosos, eles se viram contra mim.
12 Upon [my] right [hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
12 Essa raça de gente ruim me ataca, me faz correr e procura acabar comigo.
13 They cast down my path, they took advantage of my calamity, against them there was no helper.
13 Eles não deixam que eu fuja, procuram me destruir, e ninguém os faz parar.
14 They came in as through a wide breach; they were stirred up because of my calamity.
14 Entram por uma brecha da muralha e no meio das ruínas se jogam contra mim.
15 They have loosed terrors upon me; they fought my will as the wind and my saving health as a cloud that passes.
15 Eu fico apavorado. A minha honra foi como que varrida para longe pelo vento; a minha prosperidade passou como se fosse uma nuvem.
16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
16 “Agora já não tenho vontade de viver; o desespero tomou conta de mim.
17 My bones pierce me in the night, and my sinews take no rest.
17 De noite os ossos me doem muito; a dor que me atormenta não para.
18 By the great force [of my disease] my garment is changed; it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
18 Deus me agarrou pela garganta com tanta violência, que desarrumou a minha roupa.
19 He has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes.
19 Ele me atirou na lama; eu não valho mais do que o pó ou a cinza.
20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me; I present myself, and thou regardest me [not].
20 “Ó Deus, eu clamo pedindo a tua ajuda, e não me respondes; eu oro a ti, e não te importas comigo.
21 Thou art become cruel to me; with the strength of thy hand thou dost hate me.
21 Tu me tratas com crueldade e me persegues com todo o teu poder.
22 Thou didst lift me up and cause me to ride upon the wind, and didst dissolve my being.
22 Fazes com que o vento me carregue e numa tempestade violenta me jogas de um lado para outro.
23 For I know [that] thou dost conduct me unto death and [to] the house appointed for all living.
23 Bem sei que me levarás à Terra da Morte, o lugar de encontro marcado para todos os vivos.
24 But he will not stretch out [his] hand against the grave; do those who are buried cry out when he destroys them?
24 Por que atacas um homem arruinado, que não pode fazer nada, a não ser pedir piedade?
25 Did I not weep for the one that was in trouble? Was [not] my soul grieved for the needy?
25 Por acaso, não chorei com as pessoas aflitas? Será que não tive pena dos pobres?
26 When I expected good, then evil came [unto me]; and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26 Eu esperava a felicidade, e veio a desgraça; eu aguardava a luz, e chegou a escuridão.
27 My bowels boil and do not rest; the days of affliction came upon me.
27 “O meu coração está agitado e não descansa; só tenho vivido dias de aflição.
28 I went about darkened, but not by the sun; I stood up and cried out in the congregation.
28 Levo uma vida triste, como um dia sem sol; eu me levanto diante de todos e peço ajuda.
29 I have become a brother to dragons and a companion to owls.
29 A minha voz é um gemido triste, como os uivos do lobo ou os gritos do avestruz.
30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30 A minha pele está ficando preta, e o meu corpo queima de febre.
31 My harp is [turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of those that weep.:
31 Eu costumava ouvir a música alegre de liras e flautas, mas agora só escuto gente chorando e soluçando.
