1 But now [those that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
1 “Mas agora zombam de mim os que têm menos idade do que eu, cujos pais eu não teria aceito nem para colocar ao lado dos cães do meu rebanho.
2 For, unto what [might] the strength of their hands [profit] me, in whom time was lost?
2 De que também me serviria a força de suas mãos, se eles são homens cujo vigor já desapareceu?
3 For want and famine [they walked] alone; fleeing into solitude, to the dark place, desolate and waste.
3 Enfraqueceram de tanto passar fome e necessidade; roem a terra seca, desde muito em ruínas e desolada.
4 Who cut up mallows among the bushes and juniper roots [for] their food.
4 Apanham malvas e folhas de arbustos e se alimentam de raízes de zimbro.
5 They were driven forth from among [men] (they cried after them as [after] a thief).
5 São expulsos do meio das pessoas; grita-se contra eles, como se grita atrás de um ladrão.
6 They dwelt in the clifts of the valleys, [in] caves of the earth, and [in] the rocks.
6 Têm de morar nos desfiladeiros sombrios, nas cavernas da terra e das rochas.
7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
7 Uivam entre os arbustos e se ajuntam debaixo dos espinheiros.
8 [They were] sons of fools and men without names; they were lower than the earth.
8 São filhos de doidos, gente sem nome, e são escorraçados da terra.”
9 And now I am their song, and I am their byword.
9 “Mas agora sou a canção de deboche dessa gente; sirvo de provérbio no meio deles.
10 They abhor me, they distance themselves from me, and do not spare to spit in my face.
10 Eles me detestam, fogem para longe de mim e não têm receio de me cuspir no rosto.
11 Because [God] has loosed my cord and afflicted me, they have also gone out of control before my face.
11 Deus afrouxou a corda do meu arco e me oprimiu; por isso, sacudiram de si o freio diante de mim.
12 Upon [my] right [hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
12 À minha direita se levanta um bando e me empurra, e contra mim prepara o seu caminho de destruição.
13 They cast down my path, they took advantage of my calamity, against them there was no helper.
13 Arruínam o meu caminho; promovem a minha destruição sem a ajuda de ninguém.
14 They came in as through a wide breach; they were stirred up because of my calamity.
14 Vêm contra mim como por uma grande brecha e se revolvem avante no meio das ruínas.
15 They have loosed terrors upon me; they fought my will as the wind and my saving health as a cloud that passes.
15 Sobrevieram-me pavores; a minha honra é como que varrida pelo vento; como nuvem passou a minha felicidade.”
16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
16 “Agora a minha alma se derrama dentro de mim; os dias da aflição se apoderam de mim.
17 My bones pierce me in the night, and my sinews take no rest.
17 A noite perfura os meus ossos, e o mal que me corrói não descansa.
18 By the great force [of my disease] my garment is changed; it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
18 Pela grande violência do meu mal está desfigurada a minha roupa; este mal me envolve como a gola da minha túnica.
19 He has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes.
19 Deus me lançou na lama, e me tornei semelhante ao pó e à cinza.”
20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me; I present myself, and thou regardest me [not].
20 “Clamo a ti, ó Deus, e não me respondes; estou em pé, mas apenas olhas para mim.
21 Thou art become cruel to me; with the strength of thy hand thou dost hate me.
21 Tu foste cruel comigo; e, com a força da tua mão, me atacas.
22 Thou didst lift me up and cause me to ride upon the wind, and didst dissolve my being.
22 Tu me levantas sobre o vento e me fazes cavalgá-lo; no estrondo da tempestade me jogas de um lado para outro.
23 For I know [that] thou dost conduct me unto death and [to] the house appointed for all living.
23 Pois eu sei que me levarás à morte e à casa destinada a todos os vivos.”
24 But he will not stretch out [his] hand against the grave; do those who are buried cry out when he destroys them?
24 “Não é fato que de um montão de ruínas um homem estenderá a sua mão? E, na sua desventura, não levantará um grito por socorro?
25 Did I not weep for the one that was in trouble? Was [not] my soul grieved for the needy?
25 Por acaso, não chorei por aquele que atravessava dias difíceis? Não se angustiou a minha alma pelo necessitado?
26 When I expected good, then evil came [unto me]; and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26 Quando eu esperava o bem, eis que me veio o mal; esperava a luz, e veio a escuridão.”
27 My bowels boil and do not rest; the days of affliction came upon me.
27 “O meu íntimo se agita sem cessar; e dias de aflição me sobrevêm.
28 I went about darkened, but not by the sun; I stood up and cried out in the congregation.
28 Tenho a pele queimada, mas não pelo sol; levanto-me na congregação e clamo por socorro.
29 I have become a brother to dragons and a companion to owls.
29 Sou irmão dos chacais e companheiro de avestruzes.
30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30 A minha pele escurece e cai; os meus ossos queimam de febre.
31 My harp is [turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of those that weep.:
31 Por isso, a minha harpa é usada para fazer lamentações, e a minha flauta, para acompanhar os que choram.”
