1 But now [those that are] younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
1 Agora, porém, se riem de mim os de menos idade do que eu, cujos pais eu teria desdenhado de pôr com os cães do meu rebanho.
2 For, unto what [might] the strength of their hands [profit] me, in whom time was lost?
2 De que também me serviria a força das mãos daqueles, cujo vigor se tinha esgotado?
3 For want and famine [they walked] alone; fleeing into solitude, to the dark place, desolate and waste.
3 De míngua e fome se debilitaram; e recolhiam-se para os lugares secos, tenebrosos, assolados e desertos.
4 Who cut up mallows among the bushes and juniper roots [for] their food.
4 Apanhavam malvas junto aos arbustos, e o seu mantimento eram as raízes dos zimbros.
5 They were driven forth from among [men] (they cried after them as [after] a thief).
5 Do meio dos homens eram expulsos, e gritavam contra eles, como contra o ladrão;
6 They dwelt in the clifts of the valleys, [in] caves of the earth, and [in] the rocks.
6 Para habitarem nos barrancos dos vales, e nas cavernas da terra e das rochas.
7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
7 Bramavam entre os arbustos, e ajuntavam-se debaixo das urtigas.
8 [They were] sons of fools and men without names; they were lower than the earth.
8 Eram filhos de doidos, e filhos de gente sem nome, e da terra foram expulsos.
9 And now I am their song, and I am their byword.
9 Agora, porém, sou a sua canção, e lhes sirvo de provérbio.
10 They abhor me, they distance themselves from me, and do not spare to spit in my face.
10 Abominam-me, e fogem para longe de mim, e no meu rosto não se privam de cuspir.
11 Because [God] has loosed my cord and afflicted me, they have also gone out of control before my face.
11 Porque Deus desatou a sua corda, e me oprimiu, por isso sacudiram de si o freio perante o meu rosto.
12 Upon [my] right [hand] rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
12 À direita se levantam os moços; empurram os meus pés, e preparam contra mim os seus caminhos de destruição.
13 They cast down my path, they took advantage of my calamity, against them there was no helper.
13 Desbaratam-me o caminho; promovem a minha miséria; contra eles não há ajudador.
14 They came in as through a wide breach; they were stirred up because of my calamity.
14 Vêm contra mim como por uma grande brecha, e revolvem-se entre a assolação.
15 They have loosed terrors upon me; they fought my will as the wind and my saving health as a cloud that passes.
15 Sobrevieram-me pavores; como vento perseguem a minha honra, e como nuvem passou a minha felicidade.
16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
16 E agora derrama-se em mim a minha alma; os dias da aflição se apoderaram de mim.
17 My bones pierce me in the night, and my sinews take no rest.
17 De noite se me traspassam os meus ossos, e os meus nervos não descansam.
18 By the great force [of my disease] my garment is changed; it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
18 Pela grandeza do meu mal está desfigurada a minha veste, que, como a gola da minha túnica, me cinge.
19 He has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes.
19 Lançou-me na lama, e fiquei semelhante ao pó e à cinza.
20 I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me; I present myself, and thou regardest me [not].
20 Clamo a ti, porém, tu não me respondes; estou em pé, porém, para mim não atentas.
21 Thou art become cruel to me; with the strength of thy hand thou dost hate me.
21 Tornaste-te cruel contra mim; com a força da tua mão resistes violentamente.
22 Thou didst lift me up and cause me to ride upon the wind, and didst dissolve my being.
22 Levantas-me sobre o vento, fazes-me cavalgar sobre ele, e derretes-me o ser.
23 For I know [that] thou dost conduct me unto death and [to] the house appointed for all living.
23 Porque eu sei que me levarás à morte e à casa do ajuntamento determinada a todos os viventes.
24 But he will not stretch out [his] hand against the grave; do those who are buried cry out when he destroys them?
24 Porém não estenderá a mão para o túmulo, ainda que eles clamem na sua destruição.
25 Did I not weep for the one that was in trouble? Was [not] my soul grieved for the needy?
25 Porventura não chorei sobre aquele que estava aflito, ou não se angustiou a minha alma pelo necessitado?
26 When I expected good, then evil came [unto me]; and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
26 Todavia aguardando eu o bem, então me veio o mal, esperando eu a luz, veio a escuridão.
27 My bowels boil and do not rest; the days of affliction came upon me.
27 As minhas entranhas fervem e não estão quietas; os dias da aflição me surpreendem.
28 I went about darkened, but not by the sun; I stood up and cried out in the congregation.
28 Denegrido ando, porém não do sol; levantando-me na congregação, clamo por socorro.
29 I have become a brother to dragons and a companion to owls.
29 Irmão me fiz dos chacais, e companheiro dos avestruzes.
30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30 Enegreceu-se a minha pele sobre mim, e os meus ossos estão queimados do calor.
31 My harp is [turned] to mourning, and my organ into the voice of those that weep.:
31 A minha harpa se tornou em luto, e o meu órgão em voz dos que choram.
