1 Better is a dry morsel and quietness therewith, than a house full of feasting with strife.
1 Melhor é um bocado seco, e sua quietude, do que uma casa cheia de sacrifícios e com contenda.
2 A servant that dealeth wisely shall have rule over a son that dealeth shamefully, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
2 Um servo sábio terá domínio sobre um filho que causa vergonha, e terá parte da herança entre os irmãos.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the LORD trieth the hearts.
3 O crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro; mas o SENHOR prova os corações.
4 A evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; and a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
4 O perverso atenta para os falsos lábios, e o mentiroso dá ouvidos à língua maldosa.
5 Whoso mocketh the poor blasphemeth his Maker; and he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
5 Quem zomba dos pobres envergonha o seu Criador, e aquele que se alegra com as calamidades não ficará impune.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
6 Os filhos dos filhos são a coroa dos idosos; e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
7 Overbearing speech becometh not a churl; much less do lying lips a prince.
7 O discurso excelente não cai bem ao tolo; muito menos o lábio mentiroso ao príncipe.
8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it; whithersoever he turneth, he prospereth.
8 Como pedra preciosa é o presente aos olhos de quem o recebe, para onde quer que se volte, prosperará.
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that harpeth on a matter estrangeth a familiar friend.
9 Aquele que encobre a transgressão busca o amor, mas aquele que repete um assunto separa os muitos amigos.
10 A rebuke entereth deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
10 A repreensão entra mais em um homem sábio do que cem açoites no tolo.
11 A rebellious man seeketh only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
11 Um homem mal busca apenas a rebelião; portanto, um mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
12 Que uma ursa roubada de seus filhotes encontre um homem, em vez de um tolo na sua loucura.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
13 A quem quer que recompense o mal pelo bem, o mal não partirá de sua casa.
14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water; therefore leave off contention, before the quarrel break out.
14 O princípio da contenda é como alguém que deixa a água sair; portanto, deixa a discórdia antes que haja rixas.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are an abomination to the LORD.
15 Aquele que justifica o perverso e o que condena o justo, ambos são abominação ao SENHOR.
16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he hath no understanding?
16 De que serve na mão do tolo o preço para comprar a sabedoria, visto que ele não tem coração para ela?
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
17 Um amigo ama em todo o tempo, e na adversidade nasce um irmão.
18 A man void of understanding is he that striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his neighbour.
18 Um homem vazio de entendimento aperta a mão e se torna fiador na presença de seu amigo.
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife; he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
19 Aquele que ama a transgressão ama a contenda, e aquele que exalta o seu portão busca a destruição.
20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good; and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into evil.
20 Aquele que tem um coração mau não encontra o bem, e aquele que tem a língua perversa cai no dano.
21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow; and the father of a churl hath no joy.
21 Aquele que gera um tolo para a sua tristeza o faz; e o pai de um tolo não tem alegria.
22 A merry heart is a good medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
22 Um coração alegre é como um bom remédio, mas um espírito partido seca os ossos.
23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the ways of justice.
23 Um homem perverso tira um presente do peito para perverter os caminhos do juízo.
24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
24 A sabedoria está diante daquele que tem entendimento, mas os olhos de um tolo estão nos confins da terra.
25 A foolish son is vexation to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
25 Um filho insensato é uma aflição para o seu pai, e amargura para aquela que o deu à luz.
26 To punish also the righteous is not good, nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.
26 Também não é bom punir o justo, nem atacar os príncipes por equidade.
27 He that spareth his words hath knowledge; and he that husbandeth his spirit is a man of discernment.
27 Aquele que tem conhecimento poupa as suas palavras, e um homem de entendimento é de excelente espírito.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise; and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed as a man of understanding.
28 Até um tolo quando fica quieto é contado como sábio; e aquele que fecha seus lábios é estimado como um homem de entendimento.
