1 For there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.
1 Na verdade, há veios de onde se extrai a prata, e lugar onde se refina o ouro.
2 Iron is taken out of the dust, and brass is molten out of the stone.
2 O ferro tira-se da terra, e da pedra se funde o cobre.
3 Man setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out to the furthest bound the stones of thick darkness and of the shadow of death.
3 Ele põe fim às trevas, e toda a extremidade ele esquadrinha, a pedra da escuridão e a da sombra da morte.
4 He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; they are forgotten of the foot that passeth by; they hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.
4 Abre um poço de mina longe dos homens, em lugares esquecidos do pé; ficando pendentes longe dos homens, oscilam de um lado para outro.
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
5 Da terra procede o pão, mas por baixo é revolvida como por fogo.
6 The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
6 As suas pedras são o lugar da safira, e tem pó de ouro.
7 That path no bird of prey knoweth, neither hath the falcon's eye seen it;
7 Essa vereda a ave de rapina a ignora, e não a viram os olhos da gralha.
8 The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor hath the lion passed thereby.
8 Nunca a pisaram filhos de animais altivos, nem o feroz leão passou por ela.
9 He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.
9 Ele estende a sua mão contra o rochedo, e revolve os montes desde as suas raízes.
10 He cutteth out channels among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
10 Dos rochedos faz sair rios, e o seu olho vê tudo o que há de precioso.
11 He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
11 Os rios tapa, e nem uma gota sai deles, e tira à luz o que estava escondido.
12 But wisdom, where shall it be found? And where is the place of understanding?
12 Porém onde se achará a sabedoria, e onde está o lugar da inteligência?
13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
13 O homem não conhece o seu valor, e nem ela se acha na terra dos viventes.
14 The deep saith: 'It is not in me'; and the sea saith: 'It is not with me.'
14 O abismo diz: Não está em mim; e o mar diz: Ela não está comigo.
15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
15 Não se dará por ela ouro fino, nem se pesará prata em troca dela.
16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
16 Nem se pode comprar por ouro fino de Ofir, nem pelo precioso ônix, nem pela safira.
17 Gold and glass cannot equal it; neither shall the exchange thereof be vessels of fine gold.
17 Com ela não se pode comparar o ouro nem o cristal; nem se trocará por jóia de ouro fino.
18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
18 Não se fará menção de coral nem de pérolas; porque o valor da sabedoria é melhor que o dos rubis.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
19 Não se lhe igualará o topázio da Etiópia, nem se pode avaliar por ouro puro.
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?
20 Donde, pois, vem a sabedoria, e onde está o lugar da inteligência?
21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
21 Pois está encoberta aos olhos de todo o vivente, e oculta às aves do céu.
22 Destruction and Death say: 'We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.'
22 A perdição e a morte dizem: Ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos a sua fama.
23 God understandeth the way thereof, and He knoweth the place thereof.
23 Deus entende o seu caminho, e ele sabe o seu lugar.
24 For He looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
24 Porque ele vê as extremidades da terra; e vê tudo o que há debaixo dos céus.
25 When He maketh a weight for the wind, and meteth out the waters by measure.
25 Quando deu peso ao vento, e tomou a medida das águas;
26 When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the storm of thunders;
26 Quando prescreveu leis para a chuva e caminho para o relâmpago dos trovões;
27 Then did He see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.
27 Então a viu e relatou; estabeleceu-a, e também a esquadrinhou.
28 And unto man He said: 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.'
28 E disse ao homem: Eis que o temor do Senhor é a sabedoria, e apartar-se do mal é a inteligência.
