1 When thou sittest to eate with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee,
1 Quando te assentares para comer com um governante, considera diligentemente o que é posto diante de ti;
2 And put the knife to thy throte, if thou be a man giuen to the appetite.
2 e põe uma faca à tua garganta se fores um homem de grande apetite.
3 Be not desirous of his deintie meates: for it is a deceiuable meate.
3 Não sejas desejoso de suas iguarias; porque são alimento enganoso.
4 Trauaile not too much to be rich: but cease from thy wisdome.
4 Não trabalhes para ficar rico; pare da tua própria sabedoria.
5 Wilt thou cast thine eyes vpon it, which is nothing? for riches taketh her to her wings, as an eagle, and flyeth into the heauen.
5 Porás tu os teus olhos sobre aquilo que não é? Porque certamente as riquezas fazem asas para si; como a águia que voa em direção ao céu.
6 Eate thou not the bread of him that hath an euil eye, neither desire his deintie meates.
6 Não comas o pão daquele que tem um olho mau, nem cobices as suas saborosas carnes,
7 For as though he thought it in his heart, so will hee say vnto thee, Eate and drinke: but his heart is not with thee.
7 porque como ele pensa em seu coração, assim é ele. Come e bebe, te diz ele; mas o seu coração não está contigo.
8 Thou shalt vomit thy morsels that thou hast eaten, and thou shalt lose thy sweete wordes.
8 Vomitarás o bocado que comeste, e perderás as tuas doces palavras.
9 Speake not in the eares of a foole: for hee will despise the wisdome of thy wordes.
9 Não fales aos ouvidos de um tolo, porque ele desprezará a sabedoria das tuas palavras.
10 Remooue not the ancient boundes, and enter not into the fieldes of the fatherlesse.
10 Não removas os limites antigos e não entres nos campos dos órfãos;
11 For he that redeemeth them, is mightie: he will defend their cause against thee.
11 porque o seu redentor é poderoso; ele pleiteará pela causa deles contigo.
12 Apply thine heart to instruction, and thine eares to the wordes of knowledge.
12 Aplica o teu coração à instrução, e os teus ouvidos às palavras do conhecimento.
13 Withhold not correction from the childe: if thou smite him with the rodde, he shall not die.
13 Não retenhas a correção da criança; pois se tu bateres nele com uma vara, ele não morrerá.
14 Thou shalt smite him with the rodde, and shalt deliuer his soule from hell.
14 Tu o baterás com a vara, e livrarás a sua alma do inferno.
15 My sonne, if thine heart be wise, mine heart shall reioyce, and I also.
15 Meu filho, se o teu coração for sábio, meu coração regozijará, o meu próprio.
16 And my reynes shall reioyce, when thy lips speake righteous things.
16 Sim, meus rins se regozijarão quando teus lábios falarem coisas retas.
17 Let not thine heart bee enuious against sinners: but let it bee in the feare of the Lord continually.
17 Não deixes teu coração invejar os pecadores, mas estejas no temor do SENHOR o dia todo.
18 For surely there is an ende, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
18 Porque certamente há um fim, e a tua expectativa não será cortada.
19 O thou my sonne, heare, and bee wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
19 Ouve tu, meu filho, e sê sábio, e guia o teu coração no caminho.
20 Keepe not company with drunkards, nor with gluttons.
20 Não estejas entre os bebedores de vinho, entre turbulentos comedores de carne;
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall bee poore, and the sleeper shalbe clothed with ragges.
21 porque o bêbado e o comilão virão à pobreza; e a sonolência vestirá um homem com trapos.
22 Obey thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother when she is olde.
22 Ouve ao teu pai, que te gerou, e não desprezes tua mãe, quando ela estiver velha.
23 Bye the trueth, but sell it not: likewise wisdome, and instruction, and vnderstanding.
23 Compra a verdade, e não a vendas; e também a sabedoria, a instrução e o entendimento.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly reioyce, and hee that begetteth a wise childe, shall haue ioy of him.
24 O pai do justo se regozijará grandemente, e aquele que gera um filho sábio terá alegria nele.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall reioyce.
25 Teu pai e tua mãe ficarão felizes, e aquela que te gerou se regozijará.
26 My sonne, giue mee thine heart, and let thine eyes delite in my wayes.
26 Meu filho, dá-me o teu coração, e deixa teus olhos observarem os meus caminhos.
27 For a whore is as a deepe ditche, and a strange woman is as a narrowe pitte.
27 Porque cova profunda é a prostituta, e poço estreito a mulher estranha.
28 Also she lyeth in wait as for a praye, and she increaseth the transgressers among men.
28 Pois ela, como uma presa, fica à espreita, e aumenta os transgressores entre os homens.
29 To whome is woe? to whome is sorowe? to whom is strife? to whom is murmuring? to whom are woundes without cause? and to whome is the rednesse of the eyes?
29 De quem são os ais? De quem as tristezas? De quem as contendas? De quem as queixas? De quem as feridas sem motivo? De quem os olhos vermelhos?
30 Euen to them that tarie long at the wine, to them that goe, and seeke mixt wine.
30 Daqueles que ficam muito tempo com o vinho; aqueles que vão buscar vinho misturado.
31 Looke not thou vpon the wine, when it is red, and when it sheweth his colour in the cup, or goeth downe pleasantly.
31 Não olhes para o vinho quando ele estiver vermelho, quando der sua cor na taça, quando ele se mover suavemente.
32 In the ende thereof it will bite like a serpent, and hurt like a cockatrise.
32 No final, ele pica como a serpente, e ferroa como uma víbora.
33 Thine eyes shall looke vpon strange women, and thine heart shall speake lewde things.
33 Teus olhos contemplarão a mulher estranha, e teu coração proferirá coisas perversas.
34 And thou shalt bee as one that sleepeth in the middes of the sea, and as hee that sleepeth in the toppe of the maste.
34 Sim, tu serás como aquele que se deita no meio do mar, ou como aquele que permanece sobre o topo de um mastro.
35 They haue stricken mee, shalt thou say, but I was not sicke: they haue beaten mee, but I knew not, when I awoke: therefore will I seeke it yet still.
35 E dirás: Me feriram, e eu não estava enfermo; me bateram, e eu não senti; quando despertarei? Tornarei a buscá-lo outra vez.
