1 Bvt Iob answered, and said,
1 Então Jó, respondendo, disse:
2 Oh that my griefe were well weighed, and my miseries were layed together in the balance.
2 Oxalá de fato se pesasse a minha mágoa, e juntamente na balança se pusesse a minha calamidade!
3 For it woulde be nowe heauier then the sande of the sea: therefore my wordes are swallowed vp.
3 Pois, na verdade, seria mais pesada do que a areia dos mares; por isso é que as minhas palavras têm sido temerárias.
4 For the arrowes of the Almightie are in me, the venime whereof doeth drinke vp my spirit, and the terrours of God fight against me.
4 Porque as flechas do Todo-Poderoso se cravaram em mim, e o meu espírito suga o veneno delas; os terrores de Deus se arregimentam contra mim.
5 Doeth the wilde asse bray when he hath grasse? or loweth the oxe when he hath fodder?
5 Zurrará o asno montês quando tiver erva? Ou mugirá o boi junto ao seu pasto?:
6 That which is vnsauerie, shall it be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egge?
6 Pode se comer sem sal o que é insípido? Ou há gosto na clara do ovo?
7 Such things as my soule refused to touch, as were sorowes, are my meate.
7 Nessas coisas a minha alma recusa tocar, pois são para mim qual comida repugnante.
8 Oh that I might haue my desire, and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!
8 Quem dera que se cumprisse o meu rogo, e que Deus me desse o que anelo!
9 That is, that God would destroy me: that he would let his hand go, and cut me off.
9 que fosse do agrado de Deus esmagar-me; que soltasse a sua mão, e me exterminasse!
10 Then should I yet haue comfort, (though I burne with sorowe, let him not spare) because I haue not denyed the wordes of the Holy one.
10 Isto ainda seria a minha consolação, e exultaria na dor que não me poupa; porque não tenho negado as palavras do Santo.
11 What power haue I that I should endure? or what is mine end, if I should prolong my life?
11 Qual é a minha força, para que eu espere? Ou qual é o meu fim, para que me porte com paciência?
12 Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brasse?
12 É a minha força a força da pedra? Ou é de bronze a minha carne?
13 Is it not so, that there is in me no helpe? and that strength is taken from me?
13 Na verdade não há em mim socorro nenhum. Não me desamparou todo o auxílio eficaz?
14 He that is in miserie, ought to be comforted of his neighbour: but men haue forsaken the feare of the Almightie.
14 Ao que desfalece devia o amigo mostrar compaixão; mesmo ao que abandona o temor do Todo-Poderoso.
15 My brethre haue deceiued me as a brook, and as the rising of the riuers they passe away.
15 Meus irmãos houveram-se aleivosamente, como um ribeiro, como a torrente dos ribeiros que passam,
16 Which are blackish with yee, and wherein the snowe is hid.
16 os quais se turvam com o gelo, e neles se esconde a neve;
17 But in time they are dryed vp with heate and are consumed: and when it is hote they faile out of their places,
17 no tempo do calor vão minguando; e quando o calor vem, desaparecem do seu lugar.
18 Or they depart from their way and course, yea, they vanish and perish.
18 As caravanas se desviam do seu curso; sobem ao deserto, e perecem.
19 They that go to Tema, considered them, and they that goe to Sheba, waited for them.
19 As caravanas de Tema olham; os viandantes de Sabá por eles esperam.
20 But they were confounded: when they hoped, they came thither and were ashamed.
20 Ficam envergonhados por terem confiado; e, chegando ali, se confundem.
21 Surely nowe are ye like vnto it: ye haue seene my fearefull plague, and are afraide.
21 Agora, pois, tais vos tornastes para mim; vedes a minha calamidade e temeis.
22 Was it because I said, Bring vnto me? or giue a rewarde to me of your substance?
22 Acaso disse eu: Dai-me um presente? Ou: Fazei-me uma oferta de vossos bens?
23 And deliuer me from the enemies hande, or ransome me out of the hand of tyrants?
23 Ou: Livrai-me das mãos do adversário? Ou: Resgatai-me das mãos dos opressores ?
24 Teach me, and I wil hold my tongue: and cause me to vnderstande, wherein I haue erred.
24 Ensinai-me, e eu me calarei; e fazei-me entender em que errei.
25 Howe stedfast are the wordes of righteousnes? and what can any of you iustly reproue?
25 Quão poderosas são as palavras da boa razão! Mas que é o que a vossa argüição reprova?
26 Doe ye imagine to reproue wordes, that the talke of the afflicted should be as the winde?
26 Acaso pretendeis reprovar palavras, embora sejam as razões do desesperado como vento?
27 Ye make your wrath to fall vpon the fatherlesse, and dig a pit for your friende.
27 Até quereis lançar sortes sobre o órfão, e fazer mercadoria do vosso amigo.
28 Nowe therefore be content to looke vpon me: for I will not lie before your face.
28 Agora, pois, por favor, olhai para, mim; porque de certo à vossa face não mentirei.
29 Turne, I pray you, let there be none iniquitie: returne, I say, and ye shall see yet my righteousnesse in that behalfe. Is there iniquitie in my tongue? doeth not my mouth feele sorowes?
29 Mudai de parecer, peço-vos, não haja injustiça; sim, mudai de parecer, que a minha causa é justa.

30 Há iniqüidade na minha língua? Ou não poderia o meu paladar discernir coisas perversas?
