1 Call nowe, if any will answere thee, and to which of the Saintes wilt thou turne?
1 “Grite agora, para ver se há quem responda! E para qual dos santos anjos você se voltará?
2 Doubtlesse anger killeth the foolish, and enuie slayeth the idiote.
2 Porque a ira mata o insensato, e a inveja destrói o tolo.
3 I haue seene the foolish well rooted, and suddenly I cursed his habitation, saying,
3 Eu mesmo vi o insensato lançar raízes, mas logo declarei maldita a sua habitação.
4 His children shalbe farre from saluation, and they shall be destroyed in the gate, and none shall deliuer them.
4 Os filhos dele estão longe do socorro; são espezinhados nos tribunais, e não há quem os livre.
5 The hungrie shall eate vp his haruest: yea, they shall take it from among the thornes, and the thirstie shall drinke vp their substance.
5 A sua colheita, o faminto a devora, arrebatando até o que se encontra no meio de espinhos; e o sedento suga os seus bens.
6 For miserie commeth not foorth of the dust, neither doeth affliction spring out of the earth.
6 Porque a aflição não vem do pó, e o sofrimento não brota do chão.
7 But man is borne vnto trauaile, as the sparkes flie vpwarde.
7 Mas o ser humano nasce para o sofrimento, como as faíscas das brasas voam para cima.”
8 But I would inquire at God, and turne my talke vnto God:
8 “Quanto a mim, eu buscaria a Deus e a ele entregaria a minha causa.
9 Which doeth great things and vnsearchable, and marueilous things without nomber.
9 Deus faz coisas grandes e insondáveis, maravilhas que não se podem enumerar.
10 He giueth raine vpon the earth, and powreth water vpon the streetes,
10 Faz chover sobre a terra e envia águas sobre os campos.
11 And setteth vp on hie them that be lowe, that the sorowfull may be exalted to saluation.
11 Põe os abatidos num lugar alto e conduz os enlutados a um lugar seguro.
12 He scattereth the deuices of the craftie: so that their handes can not accomplish that which they doe enterprise.
12 Deus frustra os planos dos astutos, para que não possam realizar seus projetos.
13 He taketh the wise in their craftinesse, and the counsel of the wicked is made foolish.
13 Ele apanha os sábios na própria astúcia deles, e o conselho dos que tramam não chega a vingar.
14 They meete with darkenesse in the day time, and grope at noone day, as in the night.
14 De dia eles encontram as trevas, e ao meio-dia andam tateando como se fosse noite.
15 But he saueth the poore from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hande of the violent man,
15 Porém Deus salva da espada que lhes sai da boca, salva os necessitados das mãos dos poderosos.
16 So that the poore hath his hope, but iniquitie shall stop her mouth.
16 Assim, há esperança para os pobres, e a iniquidade tapa a sua própria boca.”
17 Beholde, blessed is the man whome God correcteth: therefore refuse not thou the chastising of the Almightie.
17 “Bem-aventurado é aquele a quem Deus disciplina! Portanto, não despreze a disciplina do Todo-Poderoso.
18 For he maketh the wound, and bindeth it vp: he smiteth, and his handes make whole.
18 Porque ele faz a ferida e ele mesmo a faz sarar; ele fere, e as suas mãos curam.
19 He shall deliuer thee in sixe troubles, and in the seuenth the euill shall not touch thee.
19 De seis angústias ele o livrará, e na sétima o mal não tocará em você.
20 In famine he shall deliuer thee from death: and in battel from the power of the sworde.
20 Na fome ele livrará você da morte; na guerra, do poder da espada.
21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue, and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it commeth.
21 Você estará abrigado do açoite da língua e, quando vier a destruição, não ficará com medo.
22 But thou shalt laugh at destruction and dearth, and shalt not be afraide of the beast of the earth.
22 Da destruição e da fome você dará risada e dos animais da terra não terá medo.
23 For the stones of the fielde shall be in league with thee, and the beastes of the field shall be at peace with thee.
23 Porque com as pedras do campo você fará aliança, e os animais selvagens viverão em paz com você.
24 And thou shalt knowe, that peace shall be in thy tabernacle, and thou shalt visite thine habitation, and shalt not sinne.
24 Saberá que a sua tenda está em paz; percorrerá as suas posses e não achará falta de nada.
25 Thou shalt perceiue also, that thy seede shalbe great, and thy posteritie as the grasse of the earth.
25 Saberá que a sua descendência se multiplicará, e que a sua posteridade será como a erva da terra.
26 Thou shalt goe to thy graue in a ful age, as a ricke of corne commeth in due season into the barne.
26 Em robusta velhice você descerá à sepultura, como se recolhe o feixe de trigo no tempo certo.
27 Lo, thus haue we inquired of it, and so it is: heare this and knowe it for thy selfe.
27 Veja bem! Isto é o que investigamos, e assim é. Ouça e medite nisso para o seu bem.”
