1 “For the leader of the music. On the Gittith. A psalm of Asaph.” Sing joyfully to God, our strength! Shout with gladness to the God of Jacob!
1 Ao mestre de canto. Com a Gitiena. Salmo de Asaf. Exultai em Deus, nosso protetor, aclamai o Deus de Jacó.
2 Raise a song, and strike the timbrel, The sweet-sounding harp, and the psaltery!
2 Tocai o saltério, vibrai os tímbales, tangei a melodiosa harpa e a lira.
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon; At the full moon, also, on our festal day!
3 Ressoai a trombeta na lua nova, na lua cheia, dia de grande festa,
4 For this is a statute for Israel, A law of the God of Jacob;
4 porque é uma instituição para Israel, um preceito do Deus de Jacó;
5 He appointed it as a memorial in Joseph, When he went out of the land of Egypt, Where he heard a language which he knew not.
5 uma lei que foi imposta a José, quando ele entrou em luta com o Egito. Eis que ouviu uma língua desconhecida:
6 “I relieved [[said he]] thy shoulders from their burden; Thy hands were removed from the hod.
6 Aliviei os seus ombros de fardos, já não carregam cestos as suas mãos,
7 Thou didst call in trouble, and I delivered thee; In the secret place of thunder I answered thee; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. [[Pause.]]
7 na tribulação gritaste para mim e te livrei; da nuvem que troveja eu respondi, junto às águas de Meribá eu te provei.
8 Hear, O my people! and I will admonish thee! O Israel! that thou wouldst hearken to me!
8 Escuta, ó povo, a minha advertência: Possas tu me ouvir, ó Israel!
9 Let there be no strange god within thee, Nor worship thou any foreign god!
9 Não haja em teu meio um deus estranho; nem adores jamais o deus de outro povo.
10 I Jehovah am thy God, Who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: Open wide thy mouth, and I will fill it!
10 Sou eu, o Senhor, teu Deus, eu que te retirei do Egito; basta abrires a boca e te satisfarei.
11 But my people would not listen to my voice, And Israel would not hearken to me.
11 No entanto, meu povo não ouviu a minha voz, Israel não me quis obedecer.
12 So I gave them up to the obstinacy of their hearts, And they walked according to their own devices.
12 Por isso, os abandonei à dureza de seus corações. Deixei-os que seguissem seus caprichos.
13 “O that my people had hearkened to me! That Israel had walked in my ways!
13 Oh, se meu povo me tivesse ouvido, se Israel andasse em meus caminhos!
14 Soon would I have brought low their enemies, And turned my hand against their adversaries.
14 Eu teria logo derrotado seus inimigos, e desceria minha mão contra seus adversários.
15 The haters of Jehovah should have become suppliants to them, And their prosperity should have endured for ever.
15 Os inimigos do Senhor lhes renderiam homenagens, estaria assegurado, para sempre, o destino do meu povo.
16 With the finest of the wheat I would have fed them, And with honey out of the rock would I have satisfied them.”
16 Eu o teria alimentado com a flor do trigo, e com o mel do rochedo o fartaria.
