1 “For the leader of the music. On the Gittith. A psalm of Asaph.” Sing joyfully to God, our strength! Shout with gladness to the God of Jacob!
1 Cantem louvores a Deus, nossa força! Aclamem ao Deus de Jacó.
2 Raise a song, and strike the timbrel, The sweet-sounding harp, and the psaltery!
2 Cantem! Façam soar o tamborim, a doce lira e a harpa.
3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon; At the full moon, also, on our festal day!
3 Toquem a trombeta na lua nova e na lua cheia, para convocar a nossa festa.
4 For this is a statute for Israel, A law of the God of Jacob;
4 Pois assim exigem os estatutos de Israel; esse é o decreto do Deus de Jacó.
5 He appointed it as a memorial in Joseph, When he went out of the land of Egypt, Where he heard a language which he knew not.
5 Ele o ordenou como lei para Israel, quando atacou o Egito para nos libertar. Ouvi uma voz desconhecida dizer:
6 “I relieved [[said he]] thy shoulders from their burden; Thy hands were removed from the hod.
6 “Agora removerei o peso de seus ombros e libertarei suas mãos das tarefas pesadas.
7 Thou didst call in trouble, and I delivered thee; In the secret place of thunder I answered thee; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. [[Pause.]]
7 Vocês clamaram a mim em sua aflição, e eu os salvei; da nuvem de tempestade lhes respondi e pus vocês à prova quando não havia água em Meribá. Interlúdio
8 Hear, O my people! and I will admonish thee! O Israel! that thou wouldst hearken to me!
8 “Ó meu povo, ouça minhas advertências; quem dera você me escutasse, ó Israel!
9 Let there be no strange god within thee, Nor worship thou any foreign god!
9 Jamais tenha em seu meio outro deus; não se curve diante de deus estrangeiro.
10 I Jehovah am thy God, Who brought thee out of the land of Egypt: Open wide thy mouth, and I will fill it!
10 Pois fui eu, o S enhor , seu Deus, que o tirei da terra do Egito. Abra bem a boca, e a encherei de coisas boas.
11 But my people would not listen to my voice, And Israel would not hearken to me.
11 “Meu povo, no entanto, não quis ouvir; Israel não me obedeceu.
12 So I gave them up to the obstinacy of their hearts, And they walked according to their own devices.
12 Por isso, deixei que seguissem seus desejos teimosos e vivessem de acordo com suas próprias ideias.
13 “O that my people had hearkened to me! That Israel had walked in my ways!
13 Ah, se meu povo me escutasse; quem dera Israel andasse em meus caminhos!
14 Soon would I have brought low their enemies, And turned my hand against their adversaries.
14 Então eu derrotaria seus inimigos sem demora; minhas mãos cairiam sobre seus adversários.
15 The haters of Jehovah should have become suppliants to them, And their prosperity should have endured for ever.
15 Os que odeiam o S enhor se encolheriam diante dele, condenados para sempre.
16 With the finest of the wheat I would have fed them, And with honey out of the rock would I have satisfied them.”
16 Vocês, porém, eu alimentaria com trigo da melhor qualidade e os saciaria com mel silvestre tirado da rocha”.
