1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said:
1 Sofar de Naama falou nestes termos:
2 For this do my thoughts lead me to reply, And for this is my ardor within me.
2 É por isso que meus pensamentos me sugerem uma resposta, e estou impaciente por falar.
3 I have heard my shameful rebuke; And the spirit, from my understanding, answereth for me.
3 Ouvi queixas injuriosas, foram palavras vãs que responderam a meu espírito.
4 Knowest thou not, that from the days of old, From the time when man was placed upon the earth,
4 Não sabes bem que, em todos os tempos, desde que o homem foi posto na terra,
5 The triumphing of the wicked hath been short, And the joy of the impious but for a moment?
5 o triunfo dos maus é breve, e a alegria do ímpio só dura um instante?
6 Though his greatness mount up to the heavens, And his head reach to the clouds,
6 Ainda mesmo que sua estatura chegasse até o céu e sua cabeça tocasse a nuvem,
7 Yet shall he perish for ever, and be mingled with dust; They who saw him shall say, Where is he?
7 como o seu próprio esterco, ele perece para sempre, e aqueles que o viam, indagam onde ele está.
8 He shall flee away like a dream, and shall not be found; Yea, he shall disappear like a vision of the nigh.
8 Como um sonho, ele voa, ninguém mais o encontra, desaparece como uma visão noturna.
9 The eye also which saw him shall see him no more, And his dwelling-place shall never more behold him.
9 O olho que o viu, já não mais o vê, nem o verá mais a sua morada.
10 His sons shall seek the favor of the poor, And their hands shall give back his wealth.
10 Seus filhos aplacarão os pobres, suas mãos restituirão suas riquezas.
11 His bones are full of his youth, But they shall lie down with him in the dust.
11 Seus ossos estavam cheios de vigor juvenil, sua mocidade deita-se com ele no pó.
12 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, Though he hide it under his tongue,
12 Se o mal lhe foi doce na boca, se o ocultou debaixo da língua,
13 Though he cherish it, and will not part with it, And keep it fast in his mouth,
13 se o reteve e não o abandonou, se o saboreou com seu paladar,
14 Yet his meat shall be changed within him, And become to him the poison of asps.
14 esse alimento se transformará em suas entranhas, e se converterá interiormente em fel de áspides.
15 He hath glutted himself with riches, And he shall throw them up again; Yea, God shall cast them out of his body.
15 Vomitará as riquezas que engoliu; Deus as fará sair-lhe do ventre.
16 He shall suck the poison of asps; The tongue of the viper shall destroy him.
16 Sugava o veneno de áspides, a língua da víbora o matará.
17 He shall never see the flowing streams, And the rivers of honey and milk.
17 Não verá correr os riachos de óleo, as torrentes de mel e de leite.
18 The fruits of his toil he shall give back, and shall not enjoy them: It is substance to be restored, and he shall not rejoice therein.
18 Vomitará seu ganho, sem poder engoli-lo, não gozará o fruto de seu tráfico.
19 Because he hath oppressed and abandoned the poor, And seized upon the house which he did not build;
19 Porque maltratou, desamparou os pobres, roubou uma casa que não tinha construído,
20 Because he knew no rest in his bosom, He shall not save that in which he delighteth.
20 porque sua avidez é insaciável, não salvará o que lhe era mais caro.
21 Because nothing escaped his greediness, His prosperity shall not endure.
21 Nada escapava à sua voracidade: é por isso que sua felicidade não há de durar.
22 In the fulness of his abundance he shall be brought low; Every hand of the wretched shall come upon him.
22 Em plena abundância, sentirá escassez; todos os golpes da infelicidade caem sobre ele.
23 He shall, indeed, have wherewith to fill himself: God shall send upon him the fury of his anger, And rain it down upon him for his food.
23 Para encher-lhe o ventre {Deus} desencadeia o fogo de sua cólera, e fará chover a dor sobre ele.
24 If he fleeth from the iron weapon, The bow of brass shall pierce him through.
24 Se foge diante da arma de ferro, o arco de bronze o traspassa,
25 He draweth the arrow, and it cometh forth from his body; Yea, the glittering steel cometh out of his gall. Terrors are upon him;
25 um dardo sai-lhe das costas, um aço fulgurante sai-lhe do fígado. O terror desaba sobre ele,
26 Calamity of every kind is treasured up for him. A fire not blown shall consume him; It shall consume whatever is left in his tent.
26 e ser-lhe-ão reservadas as trevas. Um fogo, que o homem não acendeu, o devora e consome o que sobra em sua tenda.
27 The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, And the earth shall rise up against him.
27 Os céus revelam seu crime, a terra levanta-se contra ele,
28 The substance of his house shall disappear; It shall flow away in the day of His wrath.
28 uma torrente joga-se contra sua casa, que é levada no dia da cólera divina.
29 Such is the portion of the wicked man from God, And the inheritance appointed for him by the Almighty.
29 Tal é a sorte que Deus reserva ao mau, e a herança que Deus lhe destina.
