1 Call, I pray thee! Is there any that answereth thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?
1 “Grite por socorro, mas alguém responderá? Qual dos anjos
2 For vexation killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the simple.
2 Por certo, o ressentimento destrói o insensato, e a inveja mata o tolo.
3 I myself saw the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
3 Observei que os insensatos têm sucesso por um tempo, mas desgraça repentina vem sobre eles.
4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer:
4 Seus filhos perdem toda e qualquer segurança; são oprimidos no tribunal, e não há quem os defenda.
5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh even out of the thorns; and the snare gapeth for his substance.
5 Os famintos devoram sua colheita, mesmo quando protegida por espinheiros, e os sedentos anseiam por sua riqueza.
6 For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
6 Embora o mal não surja do solo, nem as dificuldades brotem da terra,
7 For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.
7 o ser humano nasce para enfrentar aflições, tão certo como as faíscas do fogo voam para o alto.
8 But as for me I will seek unto *God, and unto God commit my cause;
8 “Se eu fosse você, buscaria a Deus e lhe apresentaria minha causa.
9 Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;
9 Ele faz grandes coisas, maravilhosas demais para entender, e realiza milagres incontáveis.
10 Who giveth rain on the face of the earth, and sendeth waters on the face of the fields;
10 Dá chuva à terra e água aos campos.
11 Setting up on high those that are low; and mourners are exalted to prosperity.
11 Exalta os humildes e protege os que sofrem.
12 He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, and their hands carry not out the enterprise.
12 Frustra os planos dos maliciosos, para que as obras de suas mãos fracassem.
13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:
13 Apanha os sábios em sua própria astúcia e frustra as intrigas dos ardilosos.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at midday as in the night.
14 Ficam na escuridão em pleno dia e tateiam ao meio-dia como se fosse noite.
15 And he saveth the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
15 Ele salva os pobres das ofensas dos fortes e os livra das garras dos poderosos.
16 So the poor hath what he hopeth for, and unrighteousness stoppeth her mouth.
16 Por fim, os desamparados têm esperança, e a boca dos perversos é fechada.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.
17 “Mas como são felizes os que Deus corrige! Não despreze, portanto, a disciplina do Todo-poderoso.
18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
18 Pois ele fere, mas enfaixa a ferida; bate, mas suas mãos curam.
19 He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
19 Ele o livrará de seis desgraças, e até mesmo na sétima o guardará do mal.
20 In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
20 Ele o livrará da morte no tempo de fome e do poder da espada no tempo de guerra.
21 Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
21 Você estará protegido das calúnias e não terá medo quando vier a destruição.
22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.
22 Rirá da destruição e da fome, e animais selvagens não o assustarão.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
23 Fará um pacto com as pedras do campo, e os animais selvagens estarão em paz com você.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou wilt survey thy fold, and miss nothing.
24 Saberá que seu lar está seguro; ao contar seus bens, de nada achará falta.
25 And thou shalt know that thy seed is numerous, and thine offspring as the herb of the earth.
25 Terá muitos filhos, tantos descendentes como o capim no pasto.
26 Thou shalt come to the grave in a ripe age, as a shock of corn is brought in in its season.
26 Em boa velhice irá para a sepultura, como um feixe de cereal colhido no tempo certo.
27 Behold this, we have searched it out, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thyself.
27 “Observamos a vida e vimos que tudo isso é verdade; ouça meu conselho e aplique-o à sua vida”.
