1 For, since the Law exhibits only an outline of the blessings to come and not a perfect representation of the things themselves, the priests can never, by repeating the same sacrifices which they continually offer year after year, give complete freedom from sin to those who draw near.
1 A lei constitui apenas uma sombra, um vislumbre das coisas boas por vir, mas não as coisas boas em si mesmas. Os sacrifícios são repetidos todos os anos, mas nunca puderam purificar inteiramente aqueles que vêm adorar.
2 For then would not the sacrifices have ceased to be offered, because the consciences of the worshippers –who in that case would now have been cleansed once for all– would no longer be burdened with sins?
2 Se tivessem esse poder, já não precisariam existir, pois os adoradores teriam sido purificados de uma vez por todas, e a consciência de seus pecados teria desaparecido.
3 But in those sacrifices sins are recalled to memory year after year.
3 Em vez disso, esses sacrifícios os lembravam de seus pecados todos os anos.
4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
4 Pois é impossível que o sangue de touros e bodes remova pecados.
5 That is why, when He comes into the world, He says, »Sacrifice and offering Thou has not desired, but a body Thou hast prepared for Me.
5 Por isso, quando Cristo veio ao mundo, disse: “Não quiseste sacrifícios nem ofertas, contudo me deste um corpo para oferecer.
6 In whole burnt-offerings and in sin-offerings Thou hast taken no pleasure.
6 Não te agradaste de holocaustos, nem de outras ofertas pelo pecado.
7 Then I said, `I have come –in the roll of the book it is written concerning Me– to do Thy will, O God.'«
7 Então eu disse: ‘Aqui estou para fazer tua vontade, ó Deus, como está escrito a meu respeito no livro’”.
8 After saying the words I have just quoted, »Sacrifices and offerings or whole burnt-offerings and sin-offerings Thou hast not desired or taken pleasure in« –all such being offered in obedience to the Law–
8 Primeiro Cristo disse: “Não quiseste sacrifícios nem ofertas, nem holocaustos, nem outras ofertas, nem te agradaste delas” (embora sejam exigidas pela lei).
9 He then adds, »I have come to do Thy will.« He does away with the first in order to establish the second.
9 Então acrescentou: “Aqui estou para fazer tua vontade”. Ele cancela a primeira aliança a fim de estabelecer a segunda.
10 It is through that divine will that we have been set free from sin, through the offering of Jesus Christ as our sacrifice once for all.
10 Pois a vontade de Deus era que fôssemos santificados pela oferta do corpo de Jesus Cristo, de uma vez por todas.
11 And while every priest stands ministering, day after day, and constantly offering the same sacrifices –though such can never rid us of our sins–
11 O sacerdote se apresenta todos os dias para realizar os serviços sagrados e oferece repetidamente os mesmos sacrifícios que nunca podem remover os pecados.
12 this Priest, on the contrary, after offering for sins a single sacrifice of perpetual efficacy, took His seat at God's right hand,
12 Nosso Sumo Sacerdote, porém, ofereceu a si mesmo como único sacrifício pelos pecados, válido para sempre. Então, sentou-se no lugar de honra à direita de Deus
13 waiting from that time onward until His enemies be put as a footstool under His feet.
13 e ali aguarda até que todos os seus inimigos sejam humilhados e postos debaixo de seus pés.
14 For by a single offering He has for ever completed the blessing for those whom He is setting free from sin.
14 Porque, mediante essa única oferta, ele tornou perfeitos para sempre os que estão sendo santificados.
15 And the Holy Spirit also gives us His testimony; for when He had said,
15 E o Espírito Santo também testemunha que isso é verdade, pois diz:
16 »`This is the Covenant that I will make with them after those days,' says the Lord: `I will put My laws upon their hearts and will write them on their minds;'«
16 “Esta é a nova aliança que farei com meu povo depois daqueles dias, diz o Senhor: Porei minhas leis em seu coração e as escreverei em sua mente”.
17 He adds, »And their sins and offences I will remember no longer.«
17 E acrescenta: “E nunca mais me lembrarei de seus pecados e seus atos de desobediência”.
18 But where these have been forgiven no further offering for sin is required.
18 Onde os pecados foram perdoados, já não há necessidade de oferecer mais sacrifícios.
19 Since then, brethren, we have free access to the Holy place through the blood of Jesus,
19 Portanto, irmãos, por causa do sangue de Jesus, podemos entrar com toda confiança no lugar santíssimo,
20 by the new and ever-living way which He opened up for us through the rending of the veil –that is to say, of His earthly nature–
20 Por sua morte, Jesus abriu um caminho novo e vivo através da cortina que leva ao lugar santíssimo.
21 and since we have a great Priest who has authority over the house of God,
21 E, uma vez que temos um Sumo Sacerdote que governa sobre a casa de Deus,
22 let us draw near with sincerity and unfaltering faith, having had our hearts sprinkled, once for all, from consciences oppressed with sin, and our bodies bathed in pure water.
22 entremos com coração sincero e plena confiança, pois nossa consciência culpada foi purificada, e nosso corpo, lavado com água pura.
23 Let us hold firmly to an unflinching avowal of our hope, for He is faithful who gave us the promises.
23 Apeguemo-nos firmemente, sem vacilar, à esperança que professamos, porque Deus é fiel para cumprir sua promessa.
24 And let us bestow thought on one another with a view to arousing one another to brotherly love and right conduct;
24 Pensemos em como motivar uns aos outros na prática do amor e das boas obras.
25 not neglecting –as some habitually do– to meet together, but encouraging one another, and doing this all the more since you can see the day of Christ approaching.
25 E não deixemos de nos reunir, como fazem alguns, mas encorajemo-nos mutuamente, sobretudo agora que o dia está próximo.
26 For if we wilfully persist in sin after having received the full knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains in reserve any other sacrifice for sins.
26 Se continuamos a pecar deliberadamente depois de ter recebido o conhecimento da verdade, já não há sacrifício que cubra esses pecados.
27 There remains nothing but a certain awful expectation of judgement, and the fury of a fire which before long will devour the enemies of the truth.
27 Há somente a assustadora expectativa do julgamento e do fogo intenso que consumirá os inimigos.
28 Any one who bids defiance to the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
28 Pois quem se recusava a obedecer à lei de Moisés era morto sem misericórdia, com base no depoimento de duas ou três testemunhas.
29 How much severer punishment, think you, will he be held to deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, has not regarded as holy that Covenant-blood with which he was set free from sin, and has insulted the Spirit from whom comes grace?
29 Imaginem quão maior será o castigo para quem insultou o Filho de Deus, tratou como comum e profano o sangue da aliança que o santificou e menosprezou o Espírito Santo que concede graça.
30 For we know who it is that has said, »Vengeance belongs to Me: I will pay back;« and again, »The Lord will be His people's judge.«
30 Pois conhecemos aquele que disse: “A vingança cabe a mim; eu lhes darei o que merecem”. E também: “O Senhor julgará o seu povo”.
31 It is an awful thing to fall into the hands of the ever-living God.
31 Que coisa terrível é cair nas mãos do Deus vivo.
32 But continually recall to mind the days now past, when on being first enlightened you went through a great conflict and many sufferings.
32 Lembrem-se dos primeiros dias, quando foram iluminados, e de como permaneceram firmes apesar de muita luta e sofrimento.
33 This was partly through allowing yourselves to be made a public spectacle amid reproaches and persecutions, and partly through coming forward to share the sufferings of those who were thus treated.
33 Houve ocasiões em que foram expostos a insultos e espancamentos; em outras, ajudaram os que passavam pelas mesmas coisas.
34 For you not only showed sympathy with those who were imprisoned, but you even submitted with joy when your property was taken from you, being well aware that you have in your own selves a more valuable possession and one which will remain.
34 Sofreram com os que foram presos e aceitaram com alegria quando lhes foi tirado tudo que possuíam. Sabiam que lhes esperavam coisas melhores, que durarão para sempre.
35 Therefore do not cast from you your confident hope, for it will receive a vast reward.
35 Portanto, não abram mão de sua firme confiança. Lembrem-se da grande recompensa que ela lhes traz.
36 For you stand in need of patient endurance, so that, as the result of having done the will of God, you may receive the promised blessing.
36 Vocês precisam perseverar, a fim de que, depois de terem feito a vontade de Deus, recebam tudo que ele lhes prometeu.
37 For there is still but a short time and then »The coming One will come and will not delay.
37 “Pois em breve virá aquele que está para vir; não se atrasará.
38 But it is by faith that My righteous servant shall live; and if he shrinks back, My soul takes no pleasure in him.«
38 Meu justo viverá pela fé; se ele se afastar, porém, não me agradarei dele.”
39 But we are not people who shrink back and perish, but are among those who believe and gain possession of their souls.
39 Mas não somos como aqueles que se afastam para sua própria destruição. Somos pessoas de fé cuja alma é preservada.
