1 Why, O God, have you spurned us forever? Why smokes your wrath against the sheep of your pasture?
1 Por que nos rejeitas, ó Deus, para sempre? Por que se acende a tua ira contra as ovelhas do teu pasto?
2 Remember the community you purchased of old to become by redemption the tribe of your heritage, Zion, the mountain you made your home.
2 Lembra-te da tua congregação, que adquiriste desde a antiguidade, que remiste para ser a tribo da tua herança; lembra-te do monte Sião, no qual tens habitado.
3 Rouse yourself, visit its ruins complete. In the temple the foe has made havoc of all things.
3 Dirige os teus passos para as perpétuas ruínas, tudo quanto de mau tem feito o inimigo no santuário.
4 Like lions your enemies roared through your house, replacing our symbols by signs of their own,
4 Os teus adversários bramam no lugar das assembleias e alteiam os seus próprios símbolos.
5 hacking, like woodsmen who lift axes on thickets of trees,
5 Parecem-se com os que brandem machado no espesso da floresta,
6 smashing with hatchets and hammers all of its carved work together.
6 e agora a todos esses lavores de entalhe quebram também, com machados e martelos.
7 They have set your temple on fire, to the very ground they have outraged the place where lives your name.
7 Deitam fogo ao teu santuário; profanam, arrasando-a até ao chão, a morada do teu nome.
8 They have said in their heart, “Let us utterly crush them.” They have burned all the houses of God in the land.
8 Disseram no seu coração: Acabemos com eles de uma vez. Queimaram todos os lugares santos de Deus na terra.
9 No symbol of ours do we see any more: no prophet is there any more, none is with us who knows how long.
9 Já não vemos os nossos símbolos; já não há profeta; nem, entre nós, quem saiba até quando.
10 How long, O God, is the foe to insult? Shall the enemy spurn your name forever?
10 Até quando, ó Deus, o adversário nos afrontará? Acaso, blasfemará o inimigo incessantemente o teu nome?
11 Why, O Lord, do you hold back your hand, why keep your right hand in the folds of your robe?
11 Por que retrais a mão, sim, a tua destra, e a conservas no teu seio?
12 Yet God is our king from the ancient days, in the midst of the earth working deeds of salvation.
12 Ora, Deus, meu Rei, é desde a antiguidade; ele é quem opera feitos salvadores no meio da terra.
13 It was you who did cleave the sea by your might, and shatter the heads of the ocean monsters.
13 Tu, com o teu poder, dividiste o mar; esmagaste sobre as águas a cabeça dos monstros marinhos.
14 It was you who did crush many-headed Leviathan, and give him as food to the beasts of the wilderness.
14 Tu espedaçaste as cabeças do crocodilo e o deste por alimento às alimárias do deserto.
15 It was you who did cleave the fountains and torrents; it was you who did dry the perennial streams.
15 Tu abriste fontes e ribeiros; secaste rios caudalosos.
16 Yours is the day; yours, too, is the night, it was you who did establish the sun and the star.
16 Teu é o dia; tua, também, a noite; a luz e o sol, tu os formaste.
17 It was you who did fix all the borders of earth: summer and winter it’s you who have made them.
17 Fixaste os confins da terra; verão e inverno, tu os fizeste.
18 Yet, for all this, the foe has insulted you, Lord, and a nation of fools has reviled your name.
18 Lembra-te disto: o inimigo tem ultrajado ao Senhor , e um povo insensato tem blasfemado o teu nome.
19 Do not give your dove to the beasts, do not forget your afflicted forever.
19 Não entregues à rapina a vida de tua rola, nem te esqueças perpetuamente da vida dos teus aflitos.
20 Look to the sleek ones - how full they are: the dark places of earth are the dwellings of violence.
20 Considera a tua aliança, pois os lugares tenebrosos da terra estão cheios de moradas de violência.
21 O let not the downtrodden turn back ashamed: let the poor and the needy sing praise to your name.
21 Não fique envergonhado o oprimido; louvem o teu nome o aflito e o necessitado.
22 Arise, God, and defend your cause: remember how fools all the day insult you.
22 Levanta-te, ó Deus, pleiteia a tua própria causa; lembra-te de como o ímpio te afronta todos os dias.
23 Do not forget the uproar of your enemies, the din of your foes that ascends evermore.
23 Não te esqueças da gritaria dos teus inimigos, do sempre crescente tumulto dos teus adversários.
