1 Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.
1 E ele falou-lhes uma parábola com este fim, de que os homens devem sempre orar e nunca desfalecer,
2 “There was,”he said, “in a certain town a judge, who had no fear of God nor regard for people.
2 dizendo: Havia em uma cidade um juiz que não temia a Deus, nem respeitava os homens;
3 In the same town there was a widow who went to him again and again, and said ‘Grant me justice against my opponent.’
3 e havia naquela cidade uma viúva; e ela veio a ele, dizendo: Vingue-me do meu adversário.
4 For a time the judge refused, but afterwards he said to himself ‘Although I am without fear of God or regard for people,
4 E por algum tempo ele não quis; mas depois ele disse consigo: Ainda que eu não temo a Deus, nem respeito os homens,
5 yet, as this widow is so troublesome, I will grant her justice, to stop her from plaguing me with her endless visits.’”
5 todavia, como esta viúva me incomoda, vou vingá-la, para que ela não continue a vir me cansar.
6 Then the Master added: “Listen to what this iniquitous judge says!
6 E disse o Senhor: Ouvi o que diz o injusto juiz.
7 And God — will not he see that his own people, who cry to him night and day, have justice done them — though he holds his hand?
7 E Deus não vingará aos seus próprios eleitos, que clamam a ele dia e noite, já que é longânimo para com eles?
8 He will, I tell you, give them justice soon enough! Yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
8 Eu vos digo que, ele os vingará rapidamente. Quando, porém, vier o Filho do homem, porventura achará fé na terra?
9 Another time, speaking to people who were satisfied that they were religious, and who regarded everyone else with scorn, Jesus told this parable —
9 E ele falou esta parábola a uns que confiavam em si mesmos, que eles eram justos, e desprezavam os outros:
10 “Two men went up into the Temple Courts to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax-gatherer.
10 Dois homens subiram ao templo para orar; um fariseu, e o outro publicano.
11 The Pharisee stood forward and began praying to himself in this way — ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men — thieves, rogues, adulterers — or even like this tax-gatherer.
11 O fariseu, posto em pé, assim orava consigo mesmo: Ó Deus, eu te agradeço, porque não sou como os outros homens, extorsionários, injustos e adúlteros; nem como este publicano.
12 I fast twice a week, and give a tenth of everything I get to God.’
12 Eu jejuo duas vezes na semana, dou os dízimos de tudo quanto eu possuo.
13 Meanwhile the tax-gatherer stood at a distance, not venturing even ‘to raise his eyes to heaven’; but he kept striking his breast and saying ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
13 E o publicano, estando em pé de longe, não queria levantar seus olhos ao céu, mas batia sobre o seu peito, dizendo: Ó Deus, tem misericórdia de mim, pecador!
14 This man, I tell you, went home pardoned, rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, while everyone who humbles himself will be exalted.”
14 Eu vos digo que este homem desceu justificado para sua casa, em vez do outro; porque todo o que a si mesmo se exaltar será humilhado, e o que a si mesmo se humilhar será exaltado.
15 Some of the people were bringing even their babies to Jesus, for him to touch them; but, when the disciples saw it, they began to find fault with those who had brought them.
15 E eles traziam-lhe também os bebês, para que ele os tocasse; mas os seus discípulos, vendo isso, os repreendiam.
16 Jesus, however, called the little children to him. “Let the little children come to me,”he said, “and do not hinder them; for it is to the childlike that the kingdom of God belongs.
16 Jesus, porém, chamando-as para si, disse: Deixai vir a mim as criancinhas, e não as proibais; porque das tais é o reino de Deus.
17 I tell you, unless a man receives the kingdom of God like a child, he will not enter it at all.”
17 Verdadeiramente eu vos digo: Qualquer que não receber o reino de Deus como uma criancinha de forma alguma entrará nele.
18 And one of the Presidents asked Jesus this question — “Good teacher, what must I do if I am to gain eternal life?”
18 E um certo governante perguntou-lhe, dizendo: Bom Mestre, o que eu farei para herdar a vida eterna?
19 “Why do you call me good?”answered Jesus. “No one is good but God.
19 E Jesus lhe disse: Por que me chamas bom? Ninguém é bom, senão um, que é Deus.
20 You know the commandments — ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not say what is false about others, Honor your father and your mother.’”
20 Tu sabes os mandamentos: Não cometerás adultério, não assassinarás, não furtarás, não dirás falso testemunho, honra a teu pai e a tua mãe.
21 “I have observed all these,” he replied, “from childhood.”
21 E ele disse: Tudo isso eu tenho guardado desde a minha juventude.
22 Hearing this, Jesus said to him: “There is one thing still lacking in you; sell everything that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven; then come and follow me.”
22 Ora, Jesus ouvindo estas coisas, lhe disse: Ainda te falta uma coisa; vende tudo quanto tens, e distribua entre os pobres, e tu terás um tesouro no céu; e vem e segue-me.
23 But the man became greatly distressed on hearing this, for he was extremely rich.
23 E, ao ouvir esta palavra, ele ficou muito triste; porque ele era muito rico.
24 Seeing this, Jesus said to his disciples: “How hard it is for the wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!
24 E, vendo Jesus que ele ficara muito triste, disse: Quão dificilmente entrarão no reino de Deus os que têm riquezas!
25 It is easier, indeed, for a camel to get through a needle’s eye than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!”
25 Porque é mais fácil um camelo passar por um olho de agulha, do que entrar um homem rico no reino de Deus.
26 “Then who can be saved?” asked those who heard this.
26 E os que ouviram isso disseram: Então, quem poderá ser salvo?
27 But Jesus said: “What is impossible with people is possible with God.”
27 E ele disse: As coisas que são impossíveis com homens são possíveis com Deus.
28 “But we,” said Peter, “we left what belonged to us and followed you.”
28 Então, disse Pedro: Eis que nós deixamos tudo, e te seguimos.
29 “I tell you,”he answered, “that there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,
29 E, ele lhes disse: Verdadeiramente eu vos digo: Não há homem que, tendo deixado casa, ou pais, ou irmãos, ou esposa, ou filhos por causa do reino de Deus,
30 who will not receive many times as much in the present, and in the age that is coming eternal life.”
30 que não receba, nesse tempo presente, muito mais, e no mundo vindouro a vida eterna.
31 Gathering the Twelve around him, Jesus said to them: “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem; and there everything that is written in the prophets will be done to the Son of Man.
31 Então, ele tomando consigo os doze, disse-lhes: Eis que estamos subindo para Jerusalém, e todas as coisas escritas pelos profetas a respeito do Filho do homem serão cumpridas.
32 For he will be given up to the Gentiles, mocked, insulted and spat on;
32 Porque ele será entregue aos gentios, e será escarnecido, humilhado e cuspido;
33 they will scourge him, and then put him to death; and on the third day he will rise again.”
33 e, eles o açoitarão, e o matarão; e ao terceiro dia ele será ressuscitado.
34 The apostles did not comprehend any of this; his meaning was unintelligible to them, and they did not understand what he was saying.
34 E eles não entendiam nenhuma dessas coisas; e esta palavra lhes era encoberta, e eles não entenderam as coisas que foram faladas.
35 As Jesus was getting near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside, begging.
35 E aconteceu que, chegando ele perto de Jericó, estava um certo homem cego assentado junto do caminho, mendigando.
36 Hearing a crowd going by, the man asked what was the matter;
36 E, ouvindo passar a multidão, ele perguntou o que isto significava.
37 and, when people told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing,
37 E disseram-lhe que Jesus de Nazaré estava passando.
38 he shouted out: “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!”
38 E ele gritou, dizendo: Jesus, Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de mim.
39 Those who were in front kept telling him to be quiet, but he continued to call out the louder: “Son of David, take pity on me!”
39 E os que iam à frente repreendiam-no, para que se calasse; mas ele gritava ainda mais: Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de mim.
40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. And, when he had come close up to him, Jesus asked him:
40 E Jesus, parando, ordenou que lho trouxessem. E ele chegando perto, perguntou-lhe,
41 “What do you want me to do for you?” “Master,” he said, “I want to recover my sight.”
41 dizendo: O que queres que eu te faça? E ele disse: Senhor, que eu possa receber a minha visão.
42 And Jesus said: “Recover your sight, your faith has delivered you.”
42 E Jesus lhe disse: Recebe a visão, a tua fé te salvou.
43 Instantly he recovered his sight, and began to follow Jesus, praising God. And all the people, on seeing it, gave glory to God.
43 E ele imediatamente recuperou a sua visão, e o foi seguindo, glorificando a Deus; e todo o povo, vendo isso, dava louvores a Deus.
