1 And Zophar the Naamathite answered and said:
1 Então, respondeu Zofar, o naamatita, e disse:
2 Should not a flood of words be answered? And should a man of lips be justified?
2 Não deveria a multidão de palavras ser respondida? E deveria um homem cheio de discurso ser justificado?
3 Should your lies make men silent? And will you mock, and no one make you ashamed?
3 Deveriam tuas mentiras fazer com que os homens mantenham sua paz? E quando zombares, nenhum homem te envergonhará?
4 For you have said, My doctrine is pure; and, I am clean in Your eyes.
4 Porque tu disseste: A minha doutrina é pura, e eu sou limpo aos teus olhos.
5 But who will grant that God would speak and open His lips against you,
5 Mas, ah, se Deus falasse e abrisse os seus lábios contra ti;
6 and would tell you the secrets of wisdom, that counsel is double? Know then that God forgets some of your iniquity for you.
6 e que te mostrasse os segredos da sabedoria, que são o dobro para aquele que a tem! Sabe, pois, que Deus requer de ti menos do que merece a tua iniquidade.
7 Can you find out God by searching? Or can you find out the end of the Almighty?
7 Tu poderás, pela busca, encontrar a Deus? Poderás encontrar o Todo-Poderoso até a perfeição?
8 Heights of the heavens! What can you do? It is deeper than Sheol; what can you know?
8 É tão alto como o céu; o que tu podes fazer? É mais profundo do que o inferno; o que tu podes saber?
9 Its measure is longer than the earth, broader than the sea.
9 A sua medida é mais comprida do que a terra, e mais larga do que o mar.
10 If He passes through and shuts up, or gathers together, then who can turn Him back?
10 Se ele corta, fecha, ou ajunta, então quem poderá impedi-lo?
11 For He knows the vanity of men; and He sees deceit, and will He not consider?
11 Porque ele conhece os homens vãos; ele também vê a maldade; ele não considerará então isso?
12 For foolish man takes heart, and man is born a wild ass's colt.
12 Pois homem vão seria sábio, embora o homem nasça como um potro de jumento selvagem.
13 If you prepare your heart, and stretch out your hands toward Him;
13 Se tu preparas o teu coração, e estendes as tuas mãos na direção dele;
14 if iniquity is in your hand, put it far away and do not let wickedness dwell in your tents;
14 se a iniquidade estiver na tua mão, lança-a para longe de ti, e não deixes a maldade habitar em teus tabernáculos.
15 surely then you shall lift up your face without blemish; and you will be steadfast, and you will not fear;
15 Porque então levantarás a tua face sem mácula; sim, tu estarás firme, e não temerás.
16 for you shall forget your misery, and shall remember it as waters that have passed;
16 Porque te esquecerás da tua miséria, e lembrar-te-ás dela como das águas que passam;
17 and your lifetime shall rise more than the noonday; you shall fly; you shall be as the morning.
17 e a tua era será mais clara do que o meio-dia; tu resplandecerás, serás como a manhã.
18 And you shall trust, because there is hope. Yea, you shall look about and you shall lie down in safety.
18 E tu estarás seguro, porque há esperança; sim, olharás ao redor de ti e terás teu descanso em segurança.
19 You shall lie down, and no one will be terrifying; yea, many shall seek your favor.
19 Também deitar-te-ás, e ninguém te causará medo; sim, muitos farão pedidos a ti.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall be consumed, and escape shall perish from them; and their hope shall be like the breathing out of the soul.
20 Mas os olhos dos perversos falharão, e eles não escaparão; e a sua esperança será como o render do espírito.
