1 Then Elihu continued and said,
1 Disse mais Eliú:
2 “Bear with me a little longer, and ⌞I will explain⌟, for ⌞I still have something to say on God’s behalf⌟.
2 "Peço-lhe que seja um pouco mais paciente comigo, e lhe mostrarei que se pode dizer mais verdades em defesa de Deus.
3 I will bring my knowledge from far away, and I will ascribe righteousness to my maker,
3 Vem de longe o meu conhecimento; atribuirei justiça ao meu Criador.
4 for truly my words are not falsehood; one who has perfect knowledge is with you.
4 Não tenha dúvida de que as minhas palavras não são falsas; quem está com você é a perfeição no conhecimento.
5 Look, God is mighty but does not despise anyone; he is mighty and ⌞good in understanding⌟.
5 "Deus é poderoso, mas não despreza os homens; é poderoso e firme em seu propósito.
6 He does not keep the wicked alive but grants justice to the afflicted.
6 Não poupa a vida dos ímpios, mas garante os direitos dos aflitos.
7 He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but he sets them forever with kings on the throne, and they are exalted.
7 Não tira os seus olhos do justo; ele o coloca nos tronos com os reis e o exalta para sempre.
8 “And if they are tied up with fetters, if they are caught in the cords of misery,
8 Mas, se os homens forem acorrentados, presos firmemente com as cordas da aflição,
9 then he declares their work to them, and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly.
9 e lhes dirá o que fizeram, que pecaram com arrogância.
10 So he opens their ear to the discipline, and he commands that they return from mischief.
10 Ele os fará ouvir a correção e lhes ordenará que se arrependam do mal que praticaram.
11 If they listen and serve him, they complete their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness.
11 Se lhe obedecerem e o servirem, serão prósperos até o fim dos seus dias e terão contentamento nos anos que lhes restam.
12 But if they do not listen, they perish by the sword, and they pass away without knowledge.
12 Mas, se não obedecerem, perecerão à espada e morrerão na ignorância.
13 And the godless of heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them.
13 "Os que têm coração ímpio guardam ressentimento; mesmo quando ele os agrilhoa eles não clamam por socorro.
14 ⌞They die in their youth⌟, and their life ends among the male shrine prostitutes.
14 Morrem em plena juventude entre os prostitutos dos santuários.
15 He delivers the afflicted by his misery, and he opens their ears by the adversity.
15 Mas aos que sofrem ele os livra em meio ao sofrimento; em sua aflição ele lhes fala.
16 And what’s more, he allured you ⌞out of distress⌟ into a broad place, where in place of it was no constraint; and what was set on your table is full of fatness.
16 "Ele está atraindo você para longe das mandíbulas da aflição, para um lugar amplo e livre, para o conforto da mesa farta e seleta que você terá.
17 But you are obsessed with the judgment of the wicked; judgment and justice take hold of you.
17 Mas agora, farto sobre você é o julgamento que cabe aos ímpios; o julgamento e a justiça o pegaram.
18 Yes, it is wrath, so that it will not incite you into mockery; and do not let the ransom’s greatness turn you aside.
18 Cuidado! Que ninguém o seduza com riquezas; não se deixe desviar por suborno, por maior que este seja.
19 Will your cry for help sustain you without distress, or all the efforts of your strength?
19 Acaso a sua riqueza, ou mesmo todos os seus grandes esforços, dariam a você apoio e alívio da aflição?
20 You must not long for the night, to cut off people ⌞in their place⌟.
20 Não anseie pela noite, quando o povo é tirado dos seus lares.
21 Take care, you must not turn to mischief, for because of this you have been tried by misery.
21 Cuidado! Não se volte para a iniqüidade, que você parece preferir à aflição.
22 “Look, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him?
22 "Deus é exaltado em seu poder. Quem é mestre como ele?
23 Who has prescribed his way for him? Or who says, ‘You have done wrong’?
23 Quem lhe prescreveu os seus caminhos, ou lhe disse: ‘Agiste mal’?
24 Remember that you should extol his work, of which people have sung.
24 Lembre-se de exaltar as suas obras, às quais os homens dedicam cânticos de louvor.
25 All human beings have looked on it; everyone watches from afar.
25 Toda a humanidade as vê; de lugares distantes os homens as contemplam.
26 “Look, God is exalted, and we do not know him; the number of his years is unsearchable.
26 Como Deus é grande! Ultrapassa o nosso entendimento! Não há como calcular os anos da sua existência.
27 Indeed, he draws up the drops of water; he distills the rain into its mist,
27 "Ele atrai as gotas de água, que se dissolvem e descem como chuva para os regatos;
28 which the clouds pour down; they shower abundantly on human beings.
28 as nuvens as despejam em aguaceiros sobre a humanidade.
29 “Moreover, ⌞can anyone understand⌟ the spreading of clouds, the thundering of his dwelling place?
29 Quem pode entender como ele estende as suas nuvens, como ele troveja desde o seu pavilhão?
30 Look, he scatters his lightning around him, and he covers the roots of the sea.
30 Observe como ele espalha os seus relâmpagos ao redor, iluminando até as profundezas do mar.
31 Indeed, he judges people by them; he gives food ⌞in abundance⌟.
31 É assim que ele governa as nações e lhes fornece grande fartura.
32 He covers his hands with lightning, and he commands it the place at which to strike.
32 Ele enche as mãos de relâmpagos e lhes determina o alvo que deverão atingir.
33 His thundering tells about him; the livestock also tell ⌞concerning what rises⌟.
33 Seu trovão anuncia a tempestade que está a caminho; até o gado a pressente.
