1 Is there not a warfare to a mortal, upon earth? And, as the days of a hireling, are not his days?
1 A vida do homem sobre a terra é uma luta, seus dias são como os dias de um mercenário.
2 As, a bondman, panteth for the shadow, and as, a hireling, longeth for his wage,
2 Como um escravo que suspira pela sombra, e o assalariado que espera seu soldo,
3 So, have I been made to inherit months of calamity, and, nights of weariness, have been appointed me.
3 assim também eu tive por sorte meses de sofrimento, e noites de dor me couberam por partilha.
4 As soon as I lie down, I say, When shall I arise? yet he lengtheneth out the evening, and I am wearied with tossings until the breeze of twilight.
4 Apenas me deito, digo: Quando chegará o dia? Logo que me levanto: Quando chegará a noite? E até a noite me farto de angústias.
5 My flesh is clothed with worms and a coating of dust, My skin, hath hardened, and then run afresh:
5 Minha carne se cobre de podridão e de imundície, minha pele racha e supura.
6 My days, are swifter than a weavers shuttle, and they are spent, without hope.
6 Meus dias passam mais depressa do que a lançadeira, e se desvanecem sem deixar esperança.
7 Remember thou, that, a wind, is my life, not again shall mine eye see blessing:
7 Lembra-te de que minha vida nada mais é do que um sopro, de que meus olhos não mais verão a felicidade;
8 Nor shall see methe eye that used to behold me, Thine eyes, are upon me, and I am not.
8 o olho que me via não mais me verá, o teu me procurará, e já não existirei.
9 A cloud faileth, and is gone, So, he that descendeth to hades, shall not come up:
9 A nuvem se dissipa e passa: assim, quem desce à região dos mortos não subirá de novo;
10 He shall not return again to his house, and his own place shall be acquainted with him no more.
10 não voltará mais à sua casa, sua morada não mais o reconhecerá.
11 I also, cannot restrain my mouth,I must speak, in the anguish of my spirit, I must find utterance, in the bitterness of my soul.
11 E por isso não reprimirei minha língua, falarei na angústia do meu espírito, queixar-me-ei na tristeza de minha alma:
12 Am, I, a sea, or a sea-monster,That thou shouldst set over me a watch?
12 Porventura, sou eu o mar ou um monstro marinho, para me teres posto um guarda contra mim?
13 When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall help to carry my complaint,
13 Se eu disser: Consolar-me-á o meu leito, e a minha cama me aliviará,
14 Then thou scarest me with dreams, and, by visions, dost thou terrify me:
14 tu me aterrarás com sonhos, e me horrorizarás com visões.
15 So that my soul chooseth strangling, Death, rather than my bones!
15 Preferiria ser estrangulado; antes a morte do que meus tormentos!
16 I am wasted away, Not, to times age-abiding, can I live, Let me alone, for, a breath, are my days.
16 Sucumbo, deixo de viver para sempre; deixa-me; pois meus dias são apenas um sopro.
17 What is a mortal, that thou shouldst nurture him? Or that thou shouldst fix upon him thy mind?
17 O que é um homem para fazeres tanto caso dele, para te dignares ocupar-te dele,
18 That thou shouldst inspect him morning by morning, moment by moment, shouldst test him?
18 para visitá-lo todas as manhãs, e prová-lo a cada instante?
19 How long wilt thou not look away from me? Wilt thou not let me alone, till I can swallow my spittle?
19 Quando cessarás de olhar para mim, e deixarás que eu engula minha saliva?
20 I have sinned, What can I do for thee, thou watcher of men? Wherefore hast thou set me as thine object of attack, or have I become, unto thee, a burden?
20 Se pequei, que mal te fiz, ó guarda dos homens? Por que me tomas por alvo, e me tornei pesado a ti?
21 And why wilt thou not remove my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? For, now, in the dust, should I lie down, and thou shouldst seek me diligently, and I should not be.
21 Por que não toleras meu pecado e não apagas minha culpa? Eis que vou logo me deitar por terra; tu me procurarás, e já não existirei.
