1 Wherefore, since from the Almighty times are not hid, have, his knowing ones, no vision of his days?
1 “Por que o Todo-poderoso não marca uma data para seu juízo? Por que os que o conhecem esperam por ele em vão?
2 Boundaries, men move back, flocks, they seize and consume;
2 Os perversos mudam os marcos das divisas, roubam rebanhos e os trazem para seus pastos.
3 The ass of the fatherless, they drive off, they take in pledge the ox of the widow;
3 Levam o jumento que pertence ao órfão e exigem o boi da viúva como penhor.
4 They turn aside the needy out of the way, at once, are the humbled of the land made to hide themselves.
4 Os pobres são empurrados para fora do caminho, e os necessitados se escondem para se proteger.
5 Lo! wild asses in the wilderness, they go forth with their work, eager seekers for prey, the waste plain, yieldeth them food for their young;
5 Como jumentos selvagens nas regiões áridas, passam todo o tempo em busca de comida; até no deserto procuram alimento para os filhos.
6 In the field-a mans fodder, they cut down, and, the vineyard of the lawless, they strip of its late berries;
6 Fazem a colheita de um campo que não semearam e recolhem as uvas nas videiras dos perversos.
7 Ill-clad, they are left to lodge without clothing, and have no covering in the cold;
7 Passam a noite nus e com frio, pois não têm roupas nem cobertas.
8 With the sweeping rain of the mountains, are they wet, and, through having no shelter, they embrace a rock.
8 Encharcados pelas chuvas das montanhas, encolhem-se junto às rochas por falta de abrigo.
9 Men tear, from the breast, the fatherless, and, over the poor, they take a pledge;
9 “Os perversos arrancam o filho da viúva do seio dela; tomam o bebê como garantia por um empréstimo.
10 Naked, they go about without clothing, and, famished, they carry the sheaves;
10 Os pobres andam nus por falta de roupas; colhem alimento para outros, enquanto passam fome.
11 Between their walls, are they exposed to the sun, Wine-presses, they tread, and yet are thirsty;
11 Espremem azeitonas para obter azeite, mas não podem prová-lo; pisam uvas para fazer vinho, enquanto passam sede.
12 Out of the cityout of the houses, they make outcry. and, the soul of the wounded, calleth for help, and, GOD, doth not regard it as foolish.
12 Os gemidos dos que estão para morrer sobem da cidade, e os feridos clamam por socorro, mas Deus não faz caso de seus lamentos.
13 They, have become rebels against the light,they are not acquainted with the ways thereof, neither abide they in the paths thereof.
13 “Os perversos se revoltam contra a luz; não reconhecem os caminhos dela, nem permanecem em suas estradas.
14 With the light, riseth the murderer, He slayeth the poor and needy, And, in the night, he becometh like a thief.
14 O assassino se levanta bem cedo, para matar os pobres e os necessitados; à noite ele se torna ladrão.
15 And, the eye of the adulterer, watcheth for the evening twilight, saying, Not an eye will see me! A covering for the face, he putteth on;
15 O adúltero espera o cair da noite, pois pensa: ‘Ninguém me verá’; esconde o rosto para ninguém o reconhecer.
16 He breaketh, in the dark, into houses,By day, they lock themselves in, They know not the light;
16 Os bandidos arrombam casas à noite e dormem durante o dia; não estão acostumados com a luz.
17 For, in the case of all such, morning to them is the death-shade, For, to be recognised, is a death-shade terror.
17 A noite escura é sua manhã; aliam-se aos terrores da escuridão.
18 Swift is he on the face of the waters, Speedily vanished their share in the land, He turneth not to the way of the vineyards.
18 “Mas, como espuma num rio, desaparecem; tudo que possuem é amaldiçoado, e temem entrar nas próprias videiras.
19 Drought and heat, steal away snow water, Hades, them who have sinned.
19 A sepultura consome os pecadores, como a seca e o calor consomem a neve.
20 Maternal love shall forget him, the worm shall find him sweet, No more shall he be remembered, but perversity shall be shivered like a tree.
20 Sua própria mãe se esquecerá deles; para os vermes, terão sabor doce. Ninguém se lembrará deles; os perversos serão derrubados como árvores.
21 He oppresseth the barren who beareth not, and, to the widow, he doeth not good;
21 Enganam a mulher que não tem filhos para defendê-la; não socorrem a viúva necessitada.
22 Yea he draggeth along the mighty by his strength, He riseth up, and none hath assurance of life;
22 “Deus, em seu poder, leva embora os ricos; ainda que prosperem, não têm garantia de que viverão.
23 It is given him to be secure, and confident, yet, his eyes, are upon their ways.
23 Talvez lhes seja permitido ficar em segurança, mas Deus os vigia sem cessar.
24 They are exalted a little, and are not, Yea having been laid low, like all men, are they gathered, Even as the top of an ear of corn, do they hang down.
24 Ainda que sejam importantes agora, depressa desaparecerão, como todos os outros, cortados como espigas de cereal.
25 But, if not, who then can convict me of falsehood? or make of no account my words?
25 Acaso alguém pode afirmar o contrário? Quem pode provar que estou errado?”.
