1 "But now, Job, listen to my words; pay attention to everything I say.
1 Portanto, Jó, eu te rogo, ouve meus discursos, e escuta todas as minhas palavras.
2 I am about to open my mouth; my words are on the tip of my tongue.
2 Eis que agora eu abro a minha boca; minha língua fala em minha boca.
3 My words come from an upright heart; my lips sincerely speak what I know.
3 Minhas palavras serão da retidão de meu coração, e meus lábios proferirão claramente o conhecimento.
4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
4 O Espírito de Deus me fez; e o fôlego do Todo-Poderoso me deu vida.
5 Answer me then, if you can; stand up and argue your case before me.
5 Se podes, responde-me, põe tuas palavras em ordem diante de mim, levanta-te.
6 I am the same as you in God's sight; I too am a piece of clay.
6 Eis que, estou de acordo com o teu desejo, no lugar de Deus; eu também sou formado do barro.
7 No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy on you.
7 Eis que, meu terror não te amedrontará, nem será minha mão pesada sobre ti.
8 "But you have said in my hearing — I heard the very words —
8 Certamente, tu falaste aos meus ouvidos, e eu ouvi a voz das tuas palavras, dizendo:
9 'I am pure, I have done no wrong; I am clean and free from sin.
9 Limpo estou, sem transgressão; eu sou inocente, e não há iniquidade em mim.
10 Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy.
10 Eis que ele encontra motivos contra mim, e me considera como seu inimigo,
11 He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.'
11 ele coloca os meus pés nos troncos, ele marca todos os meus caminhos.
12 "But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal.
12 Eis que nisso não és justo; eu te responderei que Deus é maior do que o homem.
13 Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one's words "?
13 Por que contendes contra ele? Por ele não dá conta de nenhum de seus assuntos.
14 For God does speak —now one way, now another — though no one perceives it.
14 Porque Deus fala uma, sim, duas vezes; e mesmo assim o homem não o percebe.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds,
15 Em sonho, em visão noturna, quando o sono profundo cai sobre os homens, adormecidos sobre o leito;
16 he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings,
16 então ele abre os ouvidos dos homens, e lhes sela a instrução;
17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride,
17 para que ele possa retirar o homem de seu propósito, e esconder o orgulho do homem.
18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword. [^2]
18 Ele mantém sua alma afastada da cova, e impede que sua vida pereça pela espada.
19 "Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in their bones,
19 Ele também é castigado com dor sobre o seu leito, e a multidão de seus ossos com forte dor;
20 so that their body finds food repulsive and their soul loathes the choicest meal.
20 para que sua vida abomine o pão, e sua alma o saboroso alimento.
21 Their flesh wastes away to nothing, and their bones, once hidden, now stick out.
21 Sua carne é consumida, de maneira que não pode ser vista, e seus ossos que não eram vistos aparecem.
22 They draw near to the pit, and their life to the messengers of death. [^3]
22 Sim, sua alma aproxima-se da cova, e a sua vida dos destruidores.
23 Yet if there is an angel at their side, a messenger, one out of a thousand, sent to tell them how to be upright,
23 Se houver um mensageiro com ele, um intérprete, um entre milhares, para mostrar ao homem a sua retidão;
24 and he is gracious to that person and says to God, 'Spare them from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for them —
24 então mostra-se gracioso para com ele, e diz: Livra-o de descer à cova; eu encontrei um resgate.
25 let their flesh be renewed like a child's; let them be restored as in the days of their youth' —
25 Sua carne será mais fresca do que a de uma criança; ele voltará aos dias da sua juventude;
26 then that person can pray to God and find favor with him, they will see God's face and shout for joy; he will restore them to full well-being.
26 orará a Deus, e ele lhe será favorável; e ele verá sua face com alegria; porque ele retribuirá ao homem a sua justiça.
27 And they will go to others and say, 'I have sinned, I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved.
27 Ele olha para os homens, e se alguém disser: Eu pequei e perverti aquele que era correto, e não lucrei com isso;
28 God has delivered me from going down to the pit, and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.'
28 ele livrará sua alma de ir à cova, e sua vida verá a luz.
29 "God does all these things to a person — twice, even three times —
29 Eis que todas estas coisas Deus faz frequentemente ao homem,
30 to turn them back from the pit, that the light of life may shine on them.
30 para trazer sua alma de volta da cova, para ser iluminado com a luz dos vivos.
31 "Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.
31 Marque bem, ó Jó, ouve-me, fica em silêncio e eu falarei.
32 If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want to vindicate you.
32 Se tens alguma coisa a dizer, responde-me; fala, porque eu desejo te justificar.
33 But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom."
33 Se não, ouve-me, fica em silêncio, e eu te ensinarei a sabedoria.
