1 And Job continued to take up his parable, and said,
1 E prosseguiu Jó no seu discurso, dizendo:
2 Who will give me back months like those which are past, days like those when God guarded me;
2 Ah! quem me dera ser como eu fui nos meses passados, como nos dias em que Deus me guardava!
3 When his lamp shone over my head, when by his light I could walk in darkness;
3 Quando fazia resplandecer a sua lâmpada sobre a minha cabeça e quando eu pela sua luz caminhava pelas trevas.
4 As I was in the days of my abundance, when the confidence of God was upon my tent:
4 Como fui nos dias da minha mocidade, quando o segredo de Deus estava sobre a minha tenda;
5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my servants stood round about me;
5 Quando o Todo-Poderoso ainda estava comigo, e os meus filhos em redor de mim.
6 When I bathed my steps in cream, and the rock poured out near me streamlets of oil!
6 Quando lavava os meus passos na manteiga, e da rocha me corriam ribeiros de azeite;
7 When I went out to the gate close by the city, when in the open place I established my seat:
7 Quando eu saía para a porta da cidade, e na rua fazia preparar a minha cadeira,
8 Young men saw me, and hid themselves; and the aged rose up, and remained standing;
8 Os moços me viam, e se escondiam, e até os idosos se levantavam e se punham em pé;
9 Princes stopped in the midst of their words, and laid their hand on their mouth:
9 Os príncipes continham as suas palavras, e punham a mão sobre a sua boca;
10 The voice of nobles was arrested, and their tongue cleaved to their palate.
10 A voz dos nobres se calava, e a sua língua apegava-se ao seu paladar.
11 For the ear that heard me called me happy; and the eye that saw me bore witness for me;
11 Ouvindo-me algum ouvido, me tinha por bem-aventurado; vendo-me algum olho, dava testemunho de mim;
12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, yea, that had none to help him.
12 Porque eu livrava o miserável, que clamava, como também o órfão que não tinha quem o socorresse.
13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me; and the heart of the widow I caused to sing for joy.
13 A bênção do que ia perecendo vinha sobre mim, e eu fazia que rejubilasse o coração da viúva.
14 I took righteousness as my garment, and it clothed me: as a robe and a mitre was justice unto me.
14 Vestia-me da justiça, e ela me servia de vestimenta; como manto e diadema era a minha justiça.
15 Eyes was I to the blind; and feet to the lame was I.
15 Eu me fazia de olhos para o cego, e de pés para o coxo.
16 A father was I to the needy; and the cause of him I knew not I used to investigate.
16 Dos necessitados era pai, e as causas de que eu não tinha conhecimento inquiria com diligência.
17 And I broke the cuttingteeth of the wrongdoer, and out of his teeth I cast down his prey.
17 E quebrava os queixos do perverso, e dos seus dentes tirava a presa.
18 And I said then, "In the midst of my nest shall I depart hence, and like the sand shall I have many days.
18 E dizia: No meu ninho expirarei, e multiplicarei os meus dias como a areia.
19 My root will stand open for the water, and the dew will lodge on my boughs.
19 A minha raiz se estendia junto às águas, e o orvalho permanecia sobre os meus ramos;
20 My glory will ever be new with me, and my bow will acquire fresh strength in my hand."
20 A minha honra se renovava em mim, e o meu arco se reforçava na minha mão.
21 Unto me men listened, and waited, and watched in silence for my counsel
21 Ouviam-me e esperavam, e em silêncio atendiam ao meu conselho.
22 After my words they made no reply, and my speech dropped on them like dew.
22 Havendo eu falado, não replicavam, e minhas razões destilavam sobre eles;
23 And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened wide their mouth as for the latter rain.
23 Porque me esperavam, como à chuva; e abriam a sua boca, como à chuva tardia.
24 I smiled on those that had lost their confidence; and the light of my countenance they never cast down.
24 Se eu ria para eles, não o criam, e a luz do meu rosto não faziam abater;
25 I chose their way for them, and I sat as chief, and dwelt as king in his army, as one that comforteth mourners.
25 Eu escolhia o seu caminho, assentava-me como chefe, e habitava como rei entre as suas tropas; como aquele que consola os que pranteiam.
