1 Man born of a woman is short of days, and sated with harrowing trouble.
1 O homem nascido da mulher vive pouco tempo e é cheio de muitas misérias;
2 Like a flower he cometh forth, and is cut down: and he fleeth like a shadow, and remaineth not.
2 é como uma flor que germina e logo fenece, uma sombra que foge sem parar.
3 And yet on such a one dost thou open thy eyes, and me thou bringest into judgment with thee?
3 E é sobre ele que abres os olhos, e o chamas a juízo contigo.
4 Who can make a clean thing out of an unclean? not one thing.
4 Quem fará sair o puro do impuro? Ninguém.
5 Seeing that his days are determined, the number of his months are fixed with thee, that thou hast set his bounds which he cannot pass:
5 Se seus dias estão contados, se em teu poder está o número dos seus meses, e fixado um limite que ele não ultrapassará,
6 Turn thyself from him that he may recover from his pain, and be able to enjoy like a hired laborer his day.
6 afasta dele os teus olhos; deixa-o até que acabe o seu dia como um trabalhador.
7 For there is hope for the tree: if it be cut down, it may still sprout again, while its young shoot will not cease.
7 Para uma árvore, há esperança; cortada, pode reverdecer, e os seus ramos brotam.
8 If even its root become old in the earth, and its stock die in the dust:
8 Quando sua raiz tiver envelhecido na terra, e seu tronco estiver morto no solo,
9 Yet through the scent of water will it flourish again, and produce boughs as though It were newly planted.
9 ao contato com a água, tornar-se-á verde de novo, e distenderá ramos como uma jovem planta.
10 But man dieth, and lieth powerless: yea, the son of earth departethand where is he?
10 Mas quando o homem morre, fica estendido; o mortal expira; onde está ele?
11 The waters run off from the sea, and the river faileth and drieth up:
11 As águas correm do lago, o rio se esgota e seca;
12 So doth man lie down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they will not awake, and will not be roused out of their sleep.
12 assim o homem se deita para não mais levantar. Durante toda a duração dos céus, ele não despertará; jamais sairá de seu sono.
13 Oh who would grant that thou mightest hide me in the nether world, that thou mightest conceal me, until thy wrath be appeased, that thou mightest set for me a fixed time, and remember me then!
13 Se, pelo menos, me escondesses na região dos mortos, ao abrigo, até que tua cólera tivesse passado, se me fixasses um limite em que te lembrasses de mim!
14 Or, when a man dieth, will he live again? all the days of my time of service would I then wait, till the hour of my release were come.
14 Se um homem, uma vez morto, pudesse reviver! Todo o tempo de meu combate eu esperaria até que me viessem soerguer,
15 Do thou call, and I will truly answer thee: have a desire for the work of thy hands.
15 tu me chamarias e eu te responderia; estenderias a tua destra para a obra de tuas mãos.
16 Yet now thou numberest my steps: and thou waitest not with the punishment of my sin.
16 Mas agora contas os meus passos, e observas todos os meus pecados;
17 Sealed up in a bag is my transgression, and thou yet addest to my iniquity.
17 tu selaste como num saco os meus crimes, puseste um sinal sobre minhas iniqüidades.
18 But truly a falling mountain will crumble, and even a rock is moved out of its place.
18 Mas a montanha acaba por cair, e o rochedo desmorona longe de seu lugar;
19 The water weareth out stones; thou sweepest away their fragments like the dust of the earth: and so thou destroyest the hope of man.
19 as águas escavam a pedra, o aluvião leva a terra móvel; assim aniquilas a esperança do homem.
20 Thou assailest him with might without ceasing, till he passeth away: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him off.
20 Tu o pões por terra; ele se vai embora para sempre; tu o desfiguras e o mandas embora.
21 His children acquire honor, but he knoweth it not: and they are esteemed little, but he perceiveth nothing of them.
21 Estejam os seus filhos honrados, ele o ignora; sejam eles humilhados, não faz caso.
22 But his body. on him, feeleth pain, and his soul will mourn for him.
22 É somente por ele que sua carne sofre; sua alma só se lamenta por ele.
