1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said:
1 Então, respondeu Zofar, o naamatita, e disse:
2 Shall not the multitude of words receive an answer? Shall the man of words be justified?
2 Não deveria a multidão de palavras ser respondida? E deveria um homem cheio de discurso ser justificado?
3 Shall thy boastings make men hold their peace? Shalt thou mock, and none put thee to shame?
3 Deveriam tuas mentiras fazer com que os homens mantenham sua paz? E quando zombares, nenhum homem te envergonhará?
4 Thou sayest, My speech is pure; I am clean in thine eyes, [[O God!]]
4 Porque tu disseste: A minha doutrina é pura, e eu sou limpo aos teus olhos.
5 But O that God would speak, And open his lips against thee;
5 Mas, ah, se Deus falasse e abrisse os seus lábios contra ti;
6 That he would show thee the secrets of his wisdom,—His wisdom, which is unsearchable! Then shouldst thou know that God forgiveth thee many of thine iniquities.
6 e que te mostrasse os segredos da sabedoria, que são o dobro para aquele que a tem! Sabe, pois, que Deus requer de ti menos do que merece a tua iniquidade.
7 Canst thou search out the deep things of God? Canst thou find out the Almighty to perfection?
7 Tu poderás, pela busca, encontrar a Deus? Poderás encontrar o Todo-Poderoso até a perfeição?
8 'Tis high as heaven, what canst thou do? Deeper than hell, what canst thou know?
8 É tão alto como o céu; o que tu podes fazer? É mais profundo do que o inferno; o que tu podes saber?
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, And broader than the sea.
9 A sua medida é mais comprida do que a terra, e mais larga do que o mar.
10 If he apprehend, and bind, and bring to trial, Who shall oppose him?
10 Se ele corta, fecha, ou ajunta, então quem poderá impedi-lo?
11 For he knoweth the unrighteous; He seeth iniquity, when they do not observe it.
11 Porque ele conhece os homens vãos; ele também vê a maldade; ele não considerará então isso?
12 But vain man is without understanding; Yea, man is born a wild ass's colt.
12 Pois homem vão seria sábio, embora o homem nasça como um potro de jumento selvagem.
13 If thou direct thy heart, And stretch out thy hands, toward him;
13 Se tu preparas o teu coração, e estendes as tuas mãos na direção dele;
14 If thou put away iniquity from thy hand, And let not wickedness dwell in thy habitation,—
14 se a iniquidade estiver na tua mão, lança-a para longe de ti, e não deixes a maldade habitar em teus tabernáculos.
15 Then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; Yea, thou shalt be steadfast, and have no fear.
15 Porque então levantarás a tua face sem mácula; sim, tu estarás firme, e não temerás.
16 For thou shalt forget thy misery, Or remember it as waters that have passed away.
16 Porque te esquecerás da tua miséria, e lembrar-te-ás dela como das águas que passam;
17 Thy life shall be brighter than the noon-day; Now thou art in darkness, thou shalt then be as morning.
17 e a tua era será mais clara do que o meio-dia; tu resplandecerás, serás como a manhã.
18 Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; Now thou art disappointed, thou shalt then rest in safety.
18 E tu estarás seguro, porque há esperança; sim, olharás ao redor de ti e terás teu descanso em segurança.
19 Thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; And many shall make suit unto thee.
19 Também deitar-te-ás, e ninguém te causará medo; sim, muitos farão pedidos a ti.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall be wearied out; They shall find no refuge; Their hope is—the breathing forth of life.
20 Mas os olhos dos perversos falharão, e eles não escaparão; e a sua esperança será como o render do espírito.
