1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh; the prophecy uttered by the man unto Ithiel, {even} unto Ithiel and Ucal:
1 Palavras de Agur, filho de Jaque, de Massá. Disse o homem: Fatiguei-me, ó Deus; fatiguei-me, ó Deus, e estou exausto
2 Truly *I* am more stupid than any one; and I have not a man's intelligence.
2 porque sou demasiadamente estúpido para ser homem; não tenho inteligência de homem,
3 I have neither learned wisdom, nor have I the knowledge of the Holy.
3 não aprendi a sabedoria, nem tenho o conhecimento do Santo.
4 Who hath ascended up into the heavens, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in a mantle? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou knowest?
4 Quem subiu ao céu e desceu? Quem encerrou os ventos nos seus punhos? Quem amarrou as águas na sua roupa? Quem estabeleceu todas as extremidades da terra? Qual é o seu nome, e qual é o nome de seu filho, se é que o sabes?
5 Every word of +God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
5 Toda palavra de Deus é pura; ele é escudo para os que nele confiam.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
6 Nada acrescentes às suas palavras, para que não te repreenda, e sejas achado mentiroso.
7 Two things do I ask of thee; deny me {them} not before I die:
7 Duas coisas te peço; não mas negues, antes que eu morra:
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my daily need:
8 afasta de mim a falsidade e a mentira; não me dês nem a pobreza nem a riqueza; dá-me o pão que me for necessário;
9 lest I be full and deny {thee}, and say, Who is Jehovah? or lest I be poor and steal, and outrage the name of my God.
9 para não suceder que, estando eu farto, te negue e diga: Quem é o Ou que, empobrecido, venha a furtar e profane o nome de Deus.
10 Speak not too much about a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.
10 Não calunies o servo diante de seu senhor, para que aquele te não amaldiçoe e fiques culpado.
11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother;
11 Há daqueles que amaldiçoam a seu pai e que não bendizem a sua mãe.
12 there is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness;
12 Há daqueles que são puros aos próprios olhos e que jamais foram lavados da sua imundícia.
13 there is a generation, -how lofty are their eyes, how their eyelids are lifted up!
13 Há daqueles — quão altivos são os seus olhos e levantadas as suas pálpebras!
14 -a generation whose teeth are swords, and their jaw-teeth knives, to devour the afflicted from off the earth, and the needy from {among} men.
14 Há daqueles cujos dentes são espadas, e cujos queixais são facas, para consumirem na terra os aflitos e os necessitados entre os homens.
15 The leech hath two daughters: Give, give. There are three {things} never satisfied; four which say not, It is enough:
15 A sanguessuga tem duas filhas, a saber: Dá, Dá. Há três coisas que nunca se fartam, sim, quatro que não dizem: Basta!
16 -Sheol, and the barren womb; the earth which is not filled with water, and the fire which saith not, It is enough.
16 Elas são a sepultura, a madre estéril, a terra, que se não farta de água, e o fogo, que nunca diz: Basta!
17 The eye that mocketh at a father, and despiseth to obey a mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
17 Os olhos de quem zomba do pai ou de quem despreza a obediência à sua mãe, corvos no ribeiro os arrancarão e pelos pintãos da águia serão comidos.
18 There are three {things} too wonderful for me, and four that I know not:
18 Há três coisas que são maravilhosas demais para mim, sim, há quatro que não entendo:
19 The way of an eagle in the heavens, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maid.
19 o caminho da águia no céu, o caminho da cobra na penha, o caminho do navio no meio do mar e o caminho do homem com uma donzela.
20 Such is the way of an adulterous woman: she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
20 Tal é o caminho da mulher adúltera: come, e limpa a boca, e diz: Não cometi maldade.
21 Under three {things} the earth is disquieted, and under four it cannot bear up:
21 Sob três coisas estremece a terra, sim, sob quatro não pode subsistir:
22 Under a servant when he reigneth, and a churl when he is filled with meat;
22 sob o servo quando se torna rei; sob o insensato quando anda farto de pão;
23 under an odious {woman} when she is married, and a handmaid when she is heir to her mistress.
23 sob a mulher desdenhada quando se casa; sob a serva quando se torna herdeira da sua senhora.
24 There are four {things} little upon the earth, and they are exceeding wise:
24 Há quatro coisas mui pequenas na terra que, porém, são mais sábias que os sábios:
25 The ants, a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer;
25 as formigas, povo sem força; todavia, no verão preparam a sua comida;
26 the rock-badgers are but a feeble folk, yet they make their house in the cliff;
26 os arganazes, povo não poderoso; contudo, fazem a sua casa nas rochas;
27 the locusts have no king, yet they go forth all of them by bands;
27 os gafanhotos não têm rei; contudo, marcham todos em bandos;
28 thou takest hold of the lizard with the hands, yet is she in kings' palaces.
28 o geco, que se apanha com as mãos; contudo, está nos palácios dos reis.
29 There are three {things} which have a stately step, and four are comely in going:
29 Há três que têm passo elegante, sim, quatro que andam airosamente:
30 The lion, mighty among beasts, which turneth not away for any;
30 O leão, o mais forte entre os animais, que por ninguém torna atrás;
31 a {horse} girt in the loins; or the he-goat; and a king, against whom none can rise up.
31 o galo, que anda ereto, o bode e o rei, a quem não se pode resistir.
32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, {lay} the hand upon thy mouth.
32 Se procedeste insensatamente em te exaltares ou se maquinaste o mal, põe a mão na boca.
33 For the pressing of milk bringeth forth butter, and the pressing of the nose bringeth forth blood; and the pressing of anger bringeth forth strife.
33 Porque o bater do leite produz manteiga, e o torcer do nariz produz sangue, e o açular a ira produz contendas.
