1 The king's heart in the hand of Jehovah is {as} brooks of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
1 Como ribeiros de águas, assim é o coração do rei na mão do Senhor ; a tudo quanto quer o inclina.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; but Jehovah weigheth the hearts.
2 Todo caminho do homem é reto aos seus olhos, mas o Senhor sonda os corações.
3 To exercise justice and judgment is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.
3 Fazer justiça e julgar com retidão é mais aceitável ao Senhor do que oferecer- lhe sacrifício.
4 Lofty eyes, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
4 Olhar altivo, coração orgulhoso e até a lavoura dos ímpios são pecado.
5 The thoughts of the diligent {tend} only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty, only to want.
5 Os pensamentos do diligente tendem à abundância, mas os de todo apressado, tão somente à pobreza.
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting breath of them that seek death.
6 Trabalhar por ajuntar tesouro com língua falsa é uma vaidade, e aqueles que a isso são impelidos buscam a morte.
7 The devastation of the wicked sweepeth them away, because they refuse to do what is right.
7 As rapinas dos ímpios virão a destruí-los, porquanto eles recusam praticar a justiça.
8 Very crooked is the way of a guilty man; but as for the pure, his work is upright.
8 O caminho do homem perverso é inteiramente tortuoso, mas a obra do puro é reta.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.
9 Melhor é morar n um canto de umas águas-furtadas do que com a mulher rixosa numa casa ampla.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
10 A alma do ímpio deseja o mal; o seu próximo não agrada aos seus olhos.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple becometh wise; and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
11 Quando o escarnecedor é castigado, o simples torna-se sábio; e, quando o sábio é instruído, recebe o conhecimento.
12 One that is righteous wisely considereth the house of the wicked: he overthroweth the wicked to {their} ruin.
12 Prudentemente considera o justo a casa do ímpio, quando os ímpios são arrastados para o mal.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also himself shall cry, and shall not be heard.
13 O que tapa o seu ouvido ao clamor do pobre também clamará e não será ouvido.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger; and a present in the bosom, vehement fury.
14 O presente que se dá em segredo abate a ira, e a dádiva no seio, uma forte indignação.
15 It is joy to a righteous {man} to do what is right; but it is ruin for the workers of iniquity.
15 Praticar a justiça é alegria para o justo, mas espanto para os que praticam a iniquidade.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of wisdom shall abide in the congregation of the dead.
16 O homem que anda desviado do caminho do entendimento na congregação dos mortos repousará.
17 He that loveth mirth shall be a poor man; he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
17 Necessidade padecerá o que ama os prazeres; o que ama o vinho e o azeite nunca enriquecerá.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, and a treacherous {man} in the stead of the upright.
18 O resgate do justo é o ímpio; o do reto, o iníquo.
19 It is better to dwell in a desert land. than with a contentious and irritable woman.
19 Melhor é morar n uma terra deserta do que com a mulher rixosa e iracunda.
20 There is costly store and oil in the dwelling of a wise {man}; but a foolish man swalloweth it up.
20 Tesouro desejável e azeite há na casa do sábio, mas o homem insensato o devora.
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
21 O que segue a justiça e a bondade achará a vida, a justiça e a honra.
22 A wise {man} scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
22 À cidade dos fortes sobe o sábio e derruba a força em que confiaram.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
23 O que guarda a boca e a língua guarda das angústias a sua alma.
24 Proud, arrogant, scorner is his name who dealeth in proud wrath.
24 Quanto ao soberbo e presumido, zombador é seu nome; trata com indignação e soberba.
25 The desire of the sluggard killeth him; for his hands refuse to work:
25 O desejo do preguiçoso o mata, porque as suas mãos recusam-se a trabalhar.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long; but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
26 Todo o dia avidamente cobiça, mas o justo dá e nada retém.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more when they bring it with a wicked purpose!
27 O sacrifício dos ímpios é abominação; quanto mais oferecendo-o com intenção maligna!
28 A lying witness shall perish; and a man that heareth shall speak constantly.
28 A testemunha mentirosa perecerá, mas o homem que ouve falará sem imputação.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face; but as for the upright, he establisheth his way.
29 O homem ímpio endurece o seu rosto, mas o reto considera o seu caminho.
30 There is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel against Jehovah.
30 Não há sabedoria, nem inteligência, nem conselho contra o Senhor .
31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but safety is of Jehovah.
31 O cavalo prepara-se para o dia da batalha, mas do Senhor vem a vitória.
