1 After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.
1 Depois disto, Jó passou a falar e amaldiçoou o dia do seu nascimento.
2 And Job answered and said,
2 Jó disse:
3 Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night that said, There is a man child conceived.
3 “Pereça o dia em que nasci e a noite em que se disse: ‘Foi concebido um homem!’
4 That day-let it be darkness, let not +God care for it from above, neither let light shine upon it:
4 Que aquele dia se transforme em trevas, e Deus, lá de cima, não se importe com ele, nem resplandeça sobre ele a luz.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it; let clouds dwell upon it; let darkeners of the day terrify it.
5 Que as trevas e a sombra da morte se apoderem desse dia; que uma nuvem habite sobre ele; que tudo o que pode escurecer o dia o espante.
6 That night-let gloom seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.
6 Aquela noite, que dela se apoderem densas trevas; que ela não se alegre entre os dias do ano, nem entre na conta dos meses.
7 Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful sound come therein;
7 Sim, que seja estéril aquela noite, e dela sejam banidos os gritos de alegria.
8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse Leviathan;
8 Amaldiçoem-na aqueles que sabem amaldiçoar o dia e sabem instigar o Leviatã.
9 Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it wait for light, and have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the dawn:
9 Escureçam-se as estrelas do seu alvorecer; que a noite espere a luz, e a luz não venha; que não veja o despontar da alvorada,
10 Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, and hid not trouble from mine eyes.
10 pois não fechou as portas do ventre da minha mãe, nem escondeu dos meus olhos o sofrimento.”
11 Wherefore did I not die from the womb, -come forth from the belly and expire?
11 “Por que não morri ao nascer? Por que não expirei ao sair do ventre de minha mãe?
12 Why did the knees meet me? and wherefore the breasts, that I should suck?
12 Por que houve um colo que me acolhesse, e seios, para que eu mamasse?
13 For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
13 Porque agora eu repousaria tranquilo; dormiria, e então haveria para mim descanso,
14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, who build desolate places for themselves,
14 com os reis e conselheiros da terra que construíram para si mausoléus;
15 Or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;
15 ou com os príncipes que tinham ouro e encheram as suas casas de prata;
16 Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants that have not seen the light.
16 ou, como aborto oculto, eu não existiria, como crianças que nunca viram a luz.
17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the wearied are at rest.
17 Ali os maus cessam de perturbar, e ali repousam os cansados.
18 The prisoners together are at ease; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster.
18 Ali os presos juntamente repousam e não ouvem a voz do capataz.
19 The small and great are there, and the bondman freed from his master.
19 Ali está tanto o pequeno como o grande, e o servo fica livre de seu senhor.”
20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul,
20 “Por que se concede luz ao miserável e vida aos de coração amargurado,
21 Who long for death, and it {cometh} not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures;
21 que esperam a morte, e ela não vem, que cavam em procura dela mais do que tesouros ocultos,
22 Who rejoice even exultingly and are glad when they find the grave? -
22 que se alegrariam por um túmulo e exultariam se achassem a sepultura?
23 To the man whose way is hidden, and whom +God hath hedged in?
23 Por que se concede luz ao homem cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus cercou de todos os lados?”
24 For my sighing cometh before my bread, and my groanings are poured out like the waters.
24 “Porque em vez do meu pão me vêm gemidos, e os meus lamentos se derramam como água.
25 For I feared a fear, and it hath come upon me, and that which I dreaded hath come to me.
25 Aquilo que temo me sobrevém, e o que receio me acontece.
26 I was not in safety, neither had I quietness, neither was I at rest, and trouble came.
26 Não tenho descanso, não tenho sossego, não tenho repouso; só tenho inquietação.”
