1 After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.
1 Depois disso, abriu Jó a sua boca, e amaldiçoou o seu dia.
2 And Job answered and said,
2 E Jó falou, e disse:
3 Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night that said, There is a man child conceived.
3 Pereça o dia em que eu nasci, e a noite em que se disse: Foi concebido um filho homem.
4 That day-let it be darkness, let not +God care for it from above, neither let light shine upon it:
4 Que aquele dia seja trevas; que Deus não o considere lá de cima, nem permita que a luz brilhe sobre ele.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it; let clouds dwell upon it; let darkeners of the day terrify it.
5 Que as trevas e a sombra da morte o maculem; que uma nuvem habite sobre ele, e que a escuridão do dia o aterrorize.
6 That night-let gloom seize upon it; let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.
6 Quanto àquela noite, que a escuridão agarre-se a ela; que ela não se alegre entre os dias do ano; que não entre no número dos meses.
7 Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful sound come therein;
7 Ah! Que aquela noite seja solitária, e nenhuma voz de júbilo entre nela.
8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse Leviathan;
8 Amaldiçoem-na aqueles que amaldiçoam o dia, que estão prontos para levantar o seu pranto.
9 Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it wait for light, and have none, neither let it see the eyelids of the dawn:
9 Escureçam-se as estrelas do seu crepúsculo; que procure a luz, e não tenha nenhuma; nem veja o alvorecer do dia,
10 Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, and hid not trouble from mine eyes.
10 porque não fechou as portas do útero de minha mãe; nem escondeu a tristeza de meus olhos.
11 Wherefore did I not die from the womb, -come forth from the belly and expire?
11 Por que eu não morri desde o útero? Por que não entreguei o espírito quando saí do ventre?
12 Why did the knees meet me? and wherefore the breasts, that I should suck?
12 Por que me ampararam os joelhos? Ou por que os peitos me amamentaram?
13 For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
13 Porque agora eu deveria estar deitado e quieto; deveria ter dormido, e então eu estaria em descanso;
14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, who build desolate places for themselves,
14 com os reis e conselheiros da terra, que edificaram lugares assolados para si mesmos;
15 Or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver;
15 ou com príncipes que possuíam ouro, que encheram suas casas com prata;
16 Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants that have not seen the light.
16 ou como em um oculto nascimento prematuro, eu não existiria; como os bebês que nunca viram a luz.
17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the wearied are at rest.
17 Ali os perversos cessam de perturbar; e ali descansam os cansados.
18 The prisoners together are at ease; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster.
18 Ali os prisioneiros descansam juntos; eles não ouvem a voz do opressor.
19 The small and great are there, and the bondman freed from his master.
19 O pequeno e o grande estão lá; e o servo é livre de seu senhor.
20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul,
20 Por que se dá luz ao infeliz, e vida aos amargurados de alma?
21 Who long for death, and it {cometh} not, and dig for it more than for hidden treasures;
21 Que anseiam pela morte, mas ela não vem; e cavam por ela mais do que por tesouros ocultos;
22 Who rejoice even exultingly and are glad when they find the grave? -
22 que regozijam grandemente, e ficam alegres quando conseguem encontrar a sepultura?
23 To the man whose way is hidden, and whom +God hath hedged in?
23 Por que se dá luz ao homem, cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus encobriu com sebe?
24 For my sighing cometh before my bread, and my groanings are poured out like the waters.
24 Porque em lugar da minha comida, vem meu suspiro, e os meus rugidos se derramam como as águas.
25 For I feared a fear, and it hath come upon me, and that which I dreaded hath come to me.
25 Porque aquilo que eu grandemente temia me sobreveio; e aquilo o que eu receava me sobreveio.
26 I was not in safety, neither had I quietness, neither was I at rest, and trouble came.
26 Eu não estive em segurança, nem tive descanso, e nem estava tranquilo; ainda assim, a tribulação veio.
