1 My soul is weary of my life. I will give free reign to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
1 "Minha vida só me dá desgosto; por isso darei vazão à minha queixa e de alma amargurada me expressarei.
2 I will say to God, Do not condemn me. Show me why thou contend with me.
2 Direi a Deus: Não me condenes, revela-me que acusações tens contra mim.
3 Is it good to thee that thou should oppress, that thou should despise the work of thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
3 Tens prazer em oprimir-me, em rejeitar a obra de tuas mãos, enquanto sorris para o plano dos ímpios?
4 Have thou eyes of flesh? Or do thou see as man sees?
4 Acaso tens olhos de carne? Enxergas como os mortais?
5 Are thy days as the days of man, or thy years as man's days,
5 Teus dias são como os de qualquer mortal? Os anos de tua vida são como os do homem?
6 that thou inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin,
6 Pois investigas a minha iniqüidade e vasculhas o meu pecado,
7 although thou know that I am not wicked. And there is none that can deliver out of thy hand?
7 embora saibas que não sou culpado e que ninguém pode livrar-me das tuas mãos.
8 Thy hands have made me and fashioned me together round about, yet thou destroy me.
8 "Foram as tuas mãos que me formaram e me fizeram. Irás agora voltar-te e destruir-me?
9 Remember, I beseech thee, that thou have fashioned me as clay. And will thou bring me into dust again?
9 Lembra-te de que me moldaste como o barro, e agora me farás voltar ao pó?
10 Have thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
10 Acaso não me despejaste como leite e não me coalhaste como queijo?
11 Thou have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
11 Não me vestiste de pele e carne e não me juntaste com ossos e tendões?
12 Thou have granted me life and loving kindness, and thy visitation has preserved my spirit.
12 Deste-me vida e foste bondoso para comigo, e na tua providência cuidaste do meu espírito.
13 Yet these things thou hid in thy heart. I know that this is with thee.
13 "Mas algo escondeste em teu coração, e bem sei que és tu:
14 If I sin, then thou mark me. And thou will not acquit me from my iniquity.
14 Se eu pecasse, me estarias observando e não deixarias sem punição a minha ofensa.
15 If I be wicked, woe to me. And if I be righteous, yet I shall not lift up my head, being filled with shame, and looking upon my affliction.
15 Se eu fosse culpado, ai de mim! Mesmo sendo inocente, não posso erguer a cabeça, pois estou dominado pela vergonha e mergulhado na minha aflição.
16 And if [my head] exalts itself, thou hunt me as a lion. And again thou show thyself marvelous upon me.
16 Se mantenho a cabeça erguida, ficas à minha espreita como um leão, e de novo manifestas contra mim o teu poder tremendo.
17 Thou renew thy witnesses against me, and increase thine indignation upon me. Changes and warfare are with me.
17 Trazes novas testemunhas contra mim e contra mim aumentas a tua ira; teus exércitos atacam-me, em batalhões sucessivos.
18 Why then have thou brought me forth out of the womb? I would have given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.
18 "Então, por que me fizeste sair do ventre? Eu preferia ter morrido antes que pudesse ser visto.
19 I should have been as though I had not been. I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
19 Se tão-somente eu jamais tivesse existido, ou fosse levado direto do ventre para a sepultura!
20 Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little
20 Já estariam no fim os meus poucos dias? Afasta-te de mim, para que eu tenha um instante de alegria,
21 before I go where I shall not return, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death,
21 antes que eu vá para o lugar do qual não há retorno, para a terra de sombras e densas trevas,
22 the land dark as midnight, of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as midnight.
22 para a terra tenebrosa como a noite, terra de trevas e de caos, onde até mesmo a luz é trevas".
