1 To the Overseer. -- `Destroy not.` -- A secret treasure, by David. Is it true, O dumb one, righteously ye speak? Uprightly ye judge, O sons of men?
1 Ao mestre de canto. Não destruas. Cântico de Davi. Será que realmente fazeis justiça, ó poderosos do mundo? Será que julgais pelo direito, ó filhos dos homens?
2 Even in heart ye work iniquities, In the land the violence of your hands ye ponder.
2 Não, pois em vossos corações cometeis iniqüidades, e vossas mãos distribuem injustiças sobre a terra.
3 The wicked have been estranged from the womb, They have erred from the belly, speaking lies.
3 Desde o seio materno se extraviaram os ímpios, desde o seu nascimento se desgarraram os mentirosos.
4 Their poison [is] as poison of a serpent, As a deaf asp shutting its ear,
4 Semelhante ao das serpentes é o seu veneno, ao veneno da víbora surda que fecha os ouvidos
5 Which hearkeneth not to the voice of whisperers, A charmer of charms most skilful.
5 para não ouvir a voz dos fascinadores, do mágico que enfeitiça habilmente.
6 O God, break their teeth in their mouth, The jaw-teeth of young lions break down, O Jehovah.
6 Ó Deus, quebrai-lhes os dentes na própria boca; parti as presas dos leões, ó Senhor.
7 They are melted as waters, They go up and down for themselves, His arrow proceedeth as they cut themselves off.
7 Que eles se dissipem como as águas que correm, e fiquem suas flechas despontadas.
8 As a snail that melteth he goeth on, [As] an untimely birth of a woman, They have not seen the sun.
8 Passem como o caracol que deslizando se consome, sejam como o feto abortivo que não verá o sol.
9 Before your pots discern the bramble, As well the raw as the heated He whirleth away.
9 Antes que os espinhos cheguem a aquecer vossas panelas, que o turbilhão os arrebate enquanto estão ainda verdes.
10 The righteous rejoiceth that he hath seen vengeance, His steps he washeth in the blood of the wicked.
10 O justo terá a alegria de ver o castigo dos ímpios, e lavará os pés no sangue deles.
11 And man saith: `Surely fruit [is] for the righteous: Surely there is a God judging in the earth!`
11 E os homens dirão: Sim, há recompensa para o justo; sim, há um Deus para julgar a terra.
