¹ »Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom.«

¹ Então o reino dos céus será semelhante a dez virgens que, tomando as suas lâmpadas, saíram ao encontro do esposo.

² Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

² E cinco delas eram prudentes, e cinco loucas.

³ For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil;

³ As loucas, tomando as suas lâmpadas, não levaram azeite consigo.

⁴ but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks.

⁴ Mas as prudentes levaram azeite em suas vasilhas, com as suas lâmpadas.

⁵ The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

⁵ E, tardando o esposo, tosquenejaram todas, e adormeceram.

⁶ But at midnight there is a loud cry, »`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!'

⁶ Mas à meia-noite ouviu-se um clamor: Aí vem o esposo, saí-lhe ao encontro.

⁷ »Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches.«

⁷ Então todas aquelas virgens se levantaram, e prepararam as suas lâmpadas.

⁸ »`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.'«

⁸ E as loucas disseram às prudentes: Dai-nos do vosso azeite, porque as nossas lâmpadas se apagam.

⁹ »`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.'«

⁹ Mas as prudentes responderam, dizendo: Não seja caso que nos falte a nós e a vós, ide antes aos que o vendem, e comprai-o para vós.

¹⁰ »So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut.«

¹⁰ E, tendo elas ido comprá-lo, chegou o esposo, e as que estavam preparadas entraram com ele para as bodas, e fechou-se a porta.

¹¹ »Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried,« `Sir, Sir, open the door to us.'

¹¹ E depois chegaram também as outras virgens, dizendo: Senhor, Senhor, abre-nos.

¹² »`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.'«

¹² E ele, respondendo, disse: Em verdade vos digo que vos não conheço.

¹³ »Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour.«

¹³ Vigiai, pois, porque não sabeis o dia nem a hora em que o Filho do homem há de vir.

¹⁴ »Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care.«

¹⁴ Porque isto é também como um homem que, partindo para fora da terra, chamou os seus servos, e entregou-lhes os seus bens.

¹⁵ To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one–to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home.

¹⁵ E a um deu cinco talentos, e a outro dois, e a outro um, a cada um segundo a sua capacidade, e ausentou-se logo para longe.

¹⁶ Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more.

¹⁶ E, tendo ele partido, o que recebera cinco talentos negociou com eles, e granjeou outros cinco talentos.

¹⁷ In the same way he who had the two gained two more.

¹⁷ Da mesma sorte, o que recebera dois, granjeou também outros dois.

¹⁸ But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money.

¹⁸ Mas o que recebera um, foi e cavou na terra e escondeu o dinheiro do seu senhor.

¹⁹ »After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them.«

¹⁹ E muito tempo depois veio o senhor daqueles servos, e fez contas com eles.

²⁰ The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, »`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.'

²⁰ Então aproximou-se o que recebera cinco talentos, e trouxe-lhe outros cinco talentos, dizendo: Senhor, entregaste-me cinco talentos; eis aqui outros cinco talentos que granjeei com eles.

²¹ »`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.'«

²¹ E o seu senhor lhe disse: Bem está, servo bom e fiel. Sobre o pouco foste fiel, sobre muito te colocarei; entra no gozo do teu senhor.

²² »The second, who had received the two talents, came and said,« `Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.'

²² E, chegando também o que tinha recebido dois talentos, disse: Senhor, entregaste-me dois talentos; eis que com eles granjeei outros dois talentos.

²³ »`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.'«

²³ Disse-lhe o seu senhor: Bem está, bom e fiel servo. Sobre o pouco foste fiel, sobre muito te colocarei; entra no gozo do teu senhor.

²⁴ »But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said,« `Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed.

²⁴ Mas, chegando também o que recebera um talento, disse: Senhor, eu conhecia-te, que és um homem duro, que ceifas onde não semeaste e ajuntas onde não espalhaste;

²⁵ So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.'

²⁵ E, atemorizado, escondi na terra o teu talento; aqui tens o que é teu.

²⁶ »`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed?«

²⁶ Respondendo, porém, o seu senhor, disse-lhe: Mau e negligente servo; sabias que ceifo onde não semeei e ajunto onde não espalhei?

²⁷ Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest.

²⁷ Devias então ter dado o meu dinheiro aos banqueiros e, quando eu viesse, receberia o meu com os juros.

²⁸ So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.'

²⁸ Tirai-lhe pois o talento, e dai-o ao que tem os dez talentos.

²⁹ (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.)

²⁹ Porque a qualquer que tiver será dado, e terá em abundância; mas ao que não tiver até o que tem ser-lhe-á tirado.

³⁰ `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.'

³⁰ Lançai, pois, o servo inútil nas trevas exteriores; ali haverá pranto e ranger de dentes.

³¹ »When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne,

³¹ E quando o Filho do homem vier em sua glória, e todos os santos anjos com ele, então se assentará no trono da sua glória;

³² and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;«

³² E todas as nações serão reunidas diante dele, e apartará uns dos outros, como o pastor aparta dos bodes as ovelhas;

³³ and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left.

³³ E porá as ovelhas à sua direita, mas os bodes à esquerda.

³⁴ »Then the King will say to those at His right,« `Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world.

³⁴ Então dirá o Rei aos que estiverem à sua direita: Vinde, benditos de meu Pai, possuí por herança o reino que vos está preparado desde a fundação do mundo;

³⁵ For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome;

³⁵ Porque tive fome, e destes-me de comer; tive sede, e destes-me de beber; era estrangeiro, e hospedastes-me;

³⁶ when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.'

³⁶ Estava nu, e vestistes-me; adoeci, e visitastes-me; estive na prisão, e foste me ver.

³⁷ »`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink?«

³⁷ Então os justos lhe responderão, dizendo: Senhor, quando te vimos com fome, e te demos de comer? ou com sede, e te demos de beber?

³⁸ When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee?

³⁸ E quando te vimos estrangeiro, e te hospedamos? ou nu, e te vestimos?

³⁹ When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?'

³⁹ E quando te vimos enfermo, ou na prisão, e fomos ver-te?

⁴⁰ »But the King will answer them,« `In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.'

⁴⁰ E, respondendo o Rei, lhes dirá: Em verdade vos digo que quando o fizestes a um destes meus pequeninos irmãos, a mim o fizestes.

⁴¹ »Then will He say to those at His left,« `Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels.

⁴¹ Então dirá também aos que estiverem à sua esquerda: Apartai-vos de mim, malditos, para o fogo eterno, preparado para o diabo e seus anjos;

⁴² For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink;

⁴² Porque tive fome, e não me destes de comer; tive sede, e não me destes de beber;

⁴³ when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.'

⁴³ Sendo estrangeiro, não me recolhestes; estando nu, não me vestistes; e enfermo, e na prisão, não me visitastes.

⁴⁴ »Then will they also answer,« `Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?'

⁴⁴ Então eles também lhe responderão, dizendo: Senhor, quando te vimos com fome, ou com sede, ou estrangeiro, ou nu, ou enfermo, ou na prisão, e não te servimos?

⁴⁵ »But he will reply,« `In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.'

⁴⁵ Então lhes responderá, dizendo: Em verdade vos digo que, quando a um destes pequeninos o não fizestes, não o fizestes a mim.

⁴⁶ »And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages.«

⁴⁶ E irão estes para o tormento eterno, mas os justos para a vida eterna.
