1 Two days later there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there,
1 Dois dias depois, houve um casamento no povoado de Caná, na região da Galileia, e a mãe de Jesus estava ali.
2 and Jesus also was invited and His disciples.
2 Jesus e os seus discípulos também tinham sido convidados para o casamento.
3 Now the wine ran short; whereupon the mother of Jesus said to Him, »They have no wine.«
3 Quando acabou o vinho, a mãe de Jesus lhe disse: — O vinho acabou.
4 »Leave the matter in my hands,« He replied; »the time for me to act has not yet come.«
4 Jesus respondeu:
5 His mother said to the attendants, »Whatever he tells you to do, do it.«
5 Então ela disse aos empregados: — Façam o que ele mandar.
6 Now there were six stone jars standing there (in accordance with the Jewish regulations for purification), each large enough to hold twenty gallons or more.
6 Ali perto estavam seis potes de pedra; em cada um cabiam entre oitenta e cento e vinte litros de água. Os judeus usavam a água que guardavam nesses potes nas suas cerimônias de purificação .
7 Jesus said to the attendants, »Fill the jars with water.« And they filled them to the brim.
7 Jesus disse aos empregados: E eles os encheram até a boca.
8 Then He said, »Now, take some out, and carry it to the President of the feast.«
8 Em seguida Jesus mandou: E eles levaram.
9 So they carried some to him. And no sooner had the President tasted the water now turned into wine, than –not knowing where it came from, though the attendants who had drawn the water knew– he called to the bridegroom
9 Então o dirigente da festa provou a água, e a água tinha virado vinho. Ele não sabia de onde tinha vindo aquele vinho, mas os empregados sabiam. Por isso ele chamou o noivo
10 and said to him, »It is usual to put on the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then that which is inferior. But you have kept the good wine till now.«
10 e disse: — Todos costumam servir primeiro o vinho bom e, depois que os convidados já beberam muito, servem o vinho comum. Mas você guardou até agora o melhor vinho.
11 This, the first of His miracles, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and thus displayed His glorious power; and His disciples believed in Him.
11 Jesus fez esse seu primeiro milagre em Caná da Galileia. Assim ele revelou a sua natureza divina, e os seus discípulos creram nele.
12 Afterwards He went down to Capernaum–He, and His mother, and His brothers, and His disciples; and they made a short stay there.
12 Depois disso, Jesus, a sua mãe, os seus irmãos e os seus discípulos foram para a cidade de Cafarnaum e ficaram alguns dias ali.
13 But the Jewish Passover was approaching, and for this Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
13 Alguns dias antes da Páscoa dos judeus, Jesus foi até a cidade de Jerusalém.
14 And He found in the Temple the dealers in cattle and sheep and in pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there.
14 No pátio do Templo encontrou pessoas vendendo bois, ovelhas e pombas; e viu também os que, sentados às suas mesas, trocavam dinheiro para o povo.
15 So He plaited a whip of rushes, and drove all –both sheep and bullocks– out of the Temple. The small coin of the brokers He upset on the ground and overturned their tables.
15 Então ele fez um chicote de cordas e expulsou toda aquela gente dali e também as ovelhas e os bois. Virou as mesas dos que trocavam dinheiro, e as moedas se espalharam pelo chão.
16 And to the pigeon-dealers He said, »Take these things away. Do not turn my Father's house into a market.«
16 E disse aos que vendiam pombas:
17 This recalled to His disciples the words of Scripture, »My zeal for Thy House will consume me.«
17 Então os discípulos dele lembraram das palavras das Escrituras Sagradas que dizem: “O meu amor pela tua casa, ó Deus, queima dentro de mim como fogo.”
18 So the Jews asked Him, »What proof of your authority do you exhibit to us, seeing that you do these things?«
18 Aí os líderes judeus perguntaram: — Que milagre você pode fazer para nos provar que tem autoridade para fazer isso?
19 »Demolish this Sanctuary,« said Jesus, »and in three days I will rebuild it.«
19 Jesus respondeu:
20 »It has taken forty-six years,« replied the Jews, »to build this Sanctuary, and will you rebuild it in three days?«
20 Eles disseram: — A construção deste Templo levou quarenta e seis anos, e você diz que vai construí-lo de novo em três dias?
21 But He was speaking of the Sanctuary of His body.
21 Porém o templo do qual Jesus estava falando era o seu próprio corpo.
22 When however He had risen from among the dead, His disciples recollected that He had said this; and they believed the Scripture and the teaching which Jesus had given them.
22 Quando Jesus foi ressuscitado, os seus discípulos lembraram que ele tinha dito isso e então creram nas Escrituras Sagradas e nas palavras dele.
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem, at the Festival of the Passover, many became believers in Him through watching the miracles He performed.
23 Quando Jesus estava em Jerusalém, durante a Festa da Páscoa , muitos creram nele porque viram os milagres que ele fazia.
24 But for His part, Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew them all,
24 Mas Jesus não confiava neles, pois os conhecia muito bem.
25 and did not need any one's testimony concerning a man, for He of Himself knew what was in the man.
25 E ninguém precisava falar com ele sobre qualquer pessoa, pois ele sabia o que cada pessoa pensava.
