1 Foolish Galatians! Who has been fascinating you — you before whose eyes Jesus Christ was depicted on the cross?
1 Ó gálatas insensatos! Quem os enfeitiçou? Não foi diante dos seus olhos que Jesus Cristo foi exposto como crucificado?
2 Here is the one thing that I want to find out from you — Did you receive the Spirit as the result of obedience to law, or of your having listened with faith?
2 Gostaria de saber apenas uma coisa: foi pela prática da lei que vocês receberam o Espírito, ou pela fé naquilo que ouviram?
3 Can you be so foolish? After beginning with what is spiritual, do you now end with what is external?
3 Será que vocês são tão insensatos que, tendo começado pelo Espírito, querem agora se aperfeiçoar pelo esforço próprio?
4 Did you go through so much to no purpose? — if indeed it really was to no purpose!
4 Será que foi inútil sofrerem tantas coisas? Se é que foi inútil!
5 He who supplies you abundantly with his Spirit and endows you with such powers — does he do this as the result of obedience to law? Or as the result of your having listened with faith?
5 Aquele que lhes dá o seu Espírito e opera milagres entre vocês, realiza essas coisas pela prática da lei ou pela fé com a qual receberam a palavra?
6 It is just as it was with Abraham — ‘He had faith in God, and his faith was regarded by God as righteousness.’
6 Considerem o exemplo de Abraão: "Ele creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi creditado como justiça".
7 You see, then, that those whose lives are based on faith are the sons of Abraham.
7 Estejam certos, portanto, de que os que são da fé, estes é que são filhos de Abraão.
8 And scripture, foreseeing that God would pronounce the Gentiles righteous as the result of faith, foretold the good news to Abraham in the words — ‘Through you all the Gentiles will be blessed.’
8 Prevendo a Escritura que Deus justificaria pela fé os gentios, anunciou primeiro as boas novas a Abraão: "Por meio de você todas as nações serão abençoadas".
9 And, therefore, those whose lives are based on faith share the blessings bestowed on the faith of Abraham.
9 Assim, os que são da fé são abençoados juntamente com Abraão, homem de fé.
10 All who rely on obedience to law are under a curse, for scripture says — ‘Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all that is written in the book of the law, and do it.’
10 Já os que são pela prática da lei estão debaixo de maldição, pois está escrito: "Maldito todo aquele que não persiste em praticar todas as coisas escritas no livro da Lei".
11 Again, it is evident that no one is pronounced righteous before God through law, for we read — ‘Through faith the righteous will find life.’
11 É evidente que diante de Deus ninguém é justificado pela lei, pois "o justo viverá pela fé".
12 But the law is not based on faith; no, its words are — ‘Those who practice these precepts will find life through them.’
12 A lei não é baseada na fé; pelo contrário, "quem praticar estas coisas, por elas viverá".
13 Christ ransomed us from the curse pronounced in the law, by taking the curse on himself for us, for scripture says — ‘Cursed is anyone who is hanged on a tree.’
13 Cristo nos redimiu da maldição da lei quando se tornou maldição em nosso lugar, pois está escrito: "Maldito todo aquele que for pendurado num madeiro".
14 And this he did that the blessing given to Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles through their union with Jesus Christ; that so, through our faith, we also might receive the promised gift of the Spirit.
14 Isso para que em Cristo Jesus a bênção de Abraão chegasse também aos gentios, para que recebêssemos a promessa do Espírito mediante a fé.
15 To take an illustration, friends, from daily life — No one sets aside even an agreement between two people, when once it has been confirmed, nor do they add conditions to it.
15 Irmãos, humanamente falando, ninguém pode anular um testamento depois de ratificado, nem acrescentar-lhe algo.
16 Now it was to Abraham that the promises were made, ‘and to his offspring.’ It was not said ‘to his offsprings,’ as if many persons were meant, but the words were ‘to your offspring,’ showing that one person was meant — and that was Christ.
16 Assim também as promessas foram feitas a Abraão e ao seu descendente. A Escritura não diz: "E aos seus descendentes", como se falando de muitos, mas: "Ao seu descendente", dando a entender que se trata de um só, isto é, Cristo.
17 My point is this — An agreement already confirmed by God cannot be canceled by the law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, so as to cause the promise to be set aside.
17 Quero dizer isto: A lei, que veio quatrocentos e trinta anos depois, não anula a aliança previamente estabelecida por Deus, de modo que venha a invalidar a promessa.
18 If our heritage is the result of law, then it has ceased to be the result of a promise. Yet God conferred it on Abraham by a promise.
18 Pois, se a herança depende da lei, já não depende de promessa. Deus, porém, concedeu-a gratuitamente a Abraão mediante promessa.
19 What, then, you ask, was the use of the law? It was a later addition, to make people conscious of their wrong-doings, and intended to last only until the coming of that ‘offspring’ to whom the promise had been made; and it was delivered through angels by a mediator.
19 Qual era então o propósito da lei? Foi acrescentada por causa das transgressões, até que viesse o Descendente a quem se referia a promessa, e foi promulgada por meio de anjos, pela mão de um mediador.
20 Now mediation implies more than one person, but God is one only.
20 Contudo, o mediador representa mais de um; Deus, porém, é um.
21 Does that set the law in opposition to God’s promises? Heaven forbid! For, if a law had been given capable of bestowing life, then righteousness would have actually owed its existence to law.
21 Então, a lei opõe-se às promessas de Deus? De maneira nenhuma! Pois, se tivesse sido dada uma lei que pudesse conceder vida, certamente a justiça viria da lei.
22 But the words of scripture represent the whole world as being in bondage to sin, so that the promised blessing, dependent, as it is, on faith in Jesus Christ, may be given to those who have faith in him.
22 Mas a Escritura encerrou tudo debaixo do pecado, a fim de que a promessa, que é pela fé em Jesus Cristo, fosse dada aos que crêem.
23 Before the coming of faith, we were kept under the guard of the law, in bondage, awaiting the faith that was destined to be revealed.
23 Antes que viesse esta fé, estávamos sob a custódia da lei, nela encerrados, até que a fé que haveria de vir fosse revelada.
24 Thus the law has proved a guide to lead us to Christ, in order that we may be pronounced righteous as the result of faith.
24 Assim, a lei foi o nosso tutor até Cristo, para que fôssemos justificados pela fé.
25 But now that faith has come we no longer need a guide.
25 Agora, porém, tendo chegado a fé, já não estamos mais sob o controle do tutor.
26 For you are all sons of God, through your faith in Christ Jesus.
26 Todos vocês são filhos de Deus mediante a fé em Cristo Jesus,
27 For all of you who were baptized into union with Christ clothed yourselves with Christ.
27 pois os que em Cristo foram batizados, de Cristo se revestiram.
28 All distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, have vanished; for in union with Christ Jesus you are all one.
28 Não há judeu nem grego, escravo nem livre, homem nem mulher; pois todos são um em Cristo Jesus.
29 And, since you belong to Christ, it follows that you are Abraham’s offspring and, under the promise, sharers in the inheritance.
29 E, se vocês são de Cristo, são descendência de Abraão e herdeiros segundo a promessa.
