1 A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a scorner does not hear rebuke.
1 O filho sábio ouve a instrução do pai; mas o escarnecedor não escuta a repreensão.
2 From the fruit of his mouth a man shall eat good, but the soul of the treacherous eats violence.
2 Do fruto da boca o homem come o bem; mas o apetite dos prevaricadores alimenta-se da violência.
3 He who keeps his mouth keeps his life; he who opens his lips wide, it is ruin to him.
3 O que guarda a sua boca preserva a sua vida; mas o que muito abre os seus lábios traz sobre si a ruína.
4 The soul of the sluggard desires and has nothing; but the soul of the hard worker shall be made fat.
4 O preguiçoso deseja, e coisa nenhuma alcança; mas o desejo do diligente será satisfeito.
5 The righteous hates lying, but the wicked one is odious and acts shamefully.
5 O justo odeia a palavra mentirosa, mas o ímpio se faz odioso e se cobre de vergonha.
6 Righteousness guards the perfect of way, but wickedness subverts sin.
6 A justiça guarda ao que é reto no seu caminho; mas a perversidade transtorna o pecador.
7 There are those who act rich, yet have nothing; and those who act poor, yet have great riches.
7 Há quem se faça rico, não tendo coisa alguma; e quem se faça pobre, tendo grande riqueza.
8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor does not hear rebuke.
8 O resgate da vida do homem são as suas riquezas; mas o pobre não tem meio de se resgatar.
9 The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
9 A luz dos justos alegra; porem a lâmpada dos ímpios se apagará.
10 Only by pride comes argument, but with those who take advice is wisdom.
10 Da soberba só provém a contenda; mas com os que se aconselham se acha a sabedoria.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be taken away, but he who gathers by labor shall increase.
11 A riqueza adquirida às pressas diminuíra; mas quem a ajunta pouco a pouco terá aumento.
12 Hope put off makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
12 A esperança adiada entristece o coração; mas o desejo cumprido é árvore devida.
13 Whoever despises the word shall be destroyed, but he who fears the commandment shall be rewarded.
13 O que despreza a palavra traz sobre si a destruição; mas o que teme o mandamento será galardoado.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
14 O ensino do sábio é uma fonte devida para desviar dos laços da morte.
15 Good understanding gives favor, but the way of traitors is ever flowing.
15 O bom senso alcança favor; mas o caminho dos prevaricadores é áspero:
16 Every wise one deals with knowledge, but a fool lays open his folly.
16 Em tudo o homem prudente procede com conhecimento; mas o tolo espraia a sua insensatez.
17 A wicked messenger falls into mischief, but a faithful ambassador is health.
17 O mensageiro perverso faz cair no mal; mas o embaixador fiel traz saúde.
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him who refuses instruction, but he who listens to correction shall be honored.
18 Pobreza e afronta virão ao que rejeita a correção; mas o que guarda a repreensão será honrado.
19 The desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but it is hateful to fools to turn from evil.
19 O desejo que se cumpre deleita a alma; mas apartar-se do ma e abominação para os tolos.
20 He who walks with the wise shall be wise, but a companion with fools shall be destroyed.
20 Quem anda com os sábios será sábio; mas o companheiro dos tolos sofre aflição.
21 Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
21 O mal persegue os pecadores; mas os justos são galardoados com o bem.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his sons' sons, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
22 O homem de bem deixa uma herança aos filhos de seus filhos; a riqueza do pecador, porém, é reservada para o justo.
23 Much food is in the plowed ground of the poor, but when there is no justice, it is swept away.
23 Abundância de mantimento há, na lavoura do pobre; mas se perde por falta de juízo.
24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him chastens him early.
24 Aquele que poupa a vara aborrece a seu filho; mas quem o ama, a seu tempo o castiga.
25 The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
25 O justo come e fica satisfeito; mas o apetite dos ímpios nunca se satisfaz.
