1 My son, if you are surety for your friend, if you struck your palms with an alien,
1 Filho meu, se ficaste por fiador do teu companheiro e se te empenhaste ao estranho,
2 you are snared with the words of your mouth; you are captured with the words of your own mouth.
2 estás enredado com o que dizem os teus lábios, estás preso com as palavras da tua boca.
3 My son, do this then, and deliver yourself when you come into the palm of your friend: go lower yourself and be bold to your friend.
3 Agora, pois, faze isto, filho meu, e livra-te, pois caíste nas mãos do teu companheiro: vai, prostra-te e importuna o teu companheiro;
4 Do not give sleep to your eyes, or slumber to your eyelids.
4 não dês sono aos teus olhos, nem repouso às tuas pálpebras;
5 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from a hand of a hunter , and as a bird from the fowler's hand.
5 livra-te, como a gazela, da mão do caçador e, como a ave, da mão do passarinheiro.
6 Go to the ant, lazy man; consider her ways and be wise;
6 Vai ter com a formiga, ó preguiçoso, considera os seus caminhos e sê sábio.
7 who, having no guide, overseer or ruler,
7 Não tendo ela chefe, nem oficial, nem comandante,
8 provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
8 no estio, prepara o seu pão, na sega, ajunta o seu mantimento.
9 How long will you lie down, O lazy man? When will you arise out of your sleep?
9 Ó preguiçoso, até quando ficarás deitado? Quando te levantarás do teu sono?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down;
10 Um pouco para dormir, um pouco para tosquenejar, um pouco para encruzar os braços em repouso,
11 So shall your poverty come as one walking, and your need like an armed man.
11 assim sobrevirá a tua pobreza como um ladrão, e a tua necessidade, como um homem armado.
12 A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth,
12 O homem de Belial, o homem vil, é o que anda com a perversidade na boca,
13 winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, teaching with his fingers.
13 acena com os olhos, arranha com os pés e faz sinais com os dedos.
14 Perversity is in his heart; he is plotting evil at every time, he sends out strife.
14 No seu coração há perversidade; todo o tempo maquina o mal; anda semeando contendas.
15 On account of this, calamity shall come suddenly; he is broken quickly and there is no healing.
15 Pelo que a sua destruição virá repentinamente; subitamente, será quebrantado, sem que haja cura.
16 These six things Jehovah hates; yea, seven are hateful to his soul;
16 Seis coisas o Senhor aborrece, e a sétima a sua alma abomina:
17 a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
17 olhos altivos, língua mentirosa, mãos que derramam sangue inocente,
18 a heart that plots evil plans, feet hurrying to run to mischief,
18 coração que trama projetos iníquos, pés que se apressam a correr para o mal,
19 a false witness who breathes lies, and he who causes strife among brothers.
19 testemunha falsa que profere mentiras e o que semeia contendas entre irmãos.
20 My son, keep your father's commands, and do not forsake the law of your mother.
20 Filho meu, guarda o mandamento de teu pai e não deixes a instrução de tua mãe;
21 Tie them to your heart forever; tie them around your neck.
21 ata-os perpetuamente ao teu coração, pendura-os ao pescoço.
22 When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall watch over you; and when you awaken, it will meditate with you.
22 Quando caminhares, isso te guiará; quando te deitares, te guardará; quando acordares, falará contigo.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; and reproofs of instruction are a way of life,
23 Porque o mandamento é lâmpada, e a instrução, luz; e as repreensões da disciplina são o caminho da vida;
24 to keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of the strange woman.
24 para te guardarem da vil mulher e das lisonjas da mulher alheia.
25 Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, and do not let her take you with her eyelids,
25 Não cobices no teu coração a sua formosura, nem te deixes prender com as suas olhadelas.
26 For on account of a woman, a harlot, a man comes to the last loaf of bread, and another man's wife hunts for the precious soul.
26 Por uma prostituta o máximo que se paga é um pedaço de pão, mas a adúltera anda à caça de vida preciosa.
27 Can a man take fire into his bosom and his clothes not be burned?
27 Tomará alguém fogo no seio, sem que as suas vestes se incendeiem?
28 Or can a man walk on hot coals and his feet not be burned?
28 Ou andará alguém sobre brasas, sem que se queimem os seus pés?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; everyone touching her shall not be innocent.
29 Assim será com o que se chegar à mulher do seu próximo; não ficará sem castigo todo aquele que a tocar.
30 They do not despise a thief, if he steals to fill his appetite when he is hungry.
30 Não é certo que se despreza o ladrão, quando furta para saciar-se, tendo fome?
31 But if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the goods of his house.
31 Pois este, quando encontrado, pagará sete vezes tanto; entregará todos os bens de sua casa.
32 He who commits adultery with a woman lacks heart; he who does it is a destroyer of his own soul.
32 O que adultera com uma mulher está fora de si; só mesmo quem quer arruinar-se é que pratica tal coisa.
33 He shall find a wound and dishonor, and his shame shall not be wiped away.
33 Achará açoites e infâmia, e o seu opróbrio nunca se apagará.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance,
34 Porque o ciúme excita o furor do marido; e não terá compaixão no dia da vingança.
35 He will not lift up the face of every ransom, nor will he consent if you multiply the bribes.
35 Não se contentará com o resgate, nem aceitará presentes, ainda que sejam muitos.
