1 After this Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.
1 Depois disto, abriu Jó a boca e amaldiçoou o seu dia.
2 And Job answered and said:
2 E Jó, falando, disse:
3 Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night which said, A man-child has been conceived.
3 Pereça o dia em que nasci, e a noite em que se disse: Foi concebido um homem!
4 Let that day be darkness! Let not God look on it from above, nor let the light shine on it.
4 Converta-se aquele dia em trevas; e Deus, lá de cima, não tenha cuidado dele, nem resplandeça sobre ele a luz!
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death seize upon it. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that blackens the day terrify it.
5 Contaminem-no as trevas e a sombra da morte; habitem sobre ele nuvens; negros vapores do dia o espantem!
6 As for that night, let darkness seize it! Let it not be joined to the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.
6 A escuridão tome aquela noite, e não se goze entre os dias do ano, e não entre no número dos meses!
7 Behold, let that night be barren; let no joyful voice come in it.
7 Ah! Que solitária seja aquela noite e suave música não entre nela!
8 Let those curse it who curse the day, those ready to stir up Leviathan.
8 Amaldiçoem-na aqueles que amaldiçoam o dia, que estão prontos para fazer correr o seu pranto.
9 Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it look for light, but have none, let it wait for eyelids of the dawn.
9 Escureçam-se as estrelas do seu crepúsculo; que espere a luz, e não venha; e não veja as pestanas dos olhos da alva!
10 For it did not shut up the doors of my mother's womb; nor did it hide toil from my eyes.
10 Porquanto não fechou as portas do ventre, nem escondeu dos meus olhos a canseira.
11 Why did I not die from the womb, come from the womb and expire?
11 Por que não morri eu desde a madre e, em saindo do ventre, não expirei?
12 Why did the knees go before me; or why the breasts, that I should suck?
12 Por que me receberam os joelhos? E por que os peitos, para que mamasse?
13 For now I would have lain down and have been quiet; I would have slept. Then I would have been at rest,
13 Porque já agora jazeria e repousaria; dormiria, e, então, haveria repouso para mim,
14 with kings and wise men of the earth, who built ruins for themselves;
14 com os reis e conselheiros da terra que para si edificavam casas nos lugares assolados,
15 or with chiefs; they had gold, they filled their houses with silver;
15 ou com os príncipes que tinham ouro, que enchiam as suas casas de prata;
16 or as a hidden miscarriage, I would not have been, like infants who never saw light.
16 ou, como aborto oculto, não existiria; como as crianças que nunca viram a luz.
17 There the wicked cease from turmoil, and there the weary are at rest;
17 Ali, os maus cessam de perturbar; e, ali, repousam os cansados.
18 The prisoners are at ease together, they hear not the voice of the slave driver;
18 Ali, os presos juntamente repousam e não ouvem a voz do exator.
19 the small and the great, he is there, and the slave free from his master.
19 Ali, está o pequeno e o grande, e o servo fica livre de seu senhor.
20 Why is light given to the miserable one, and life to him who is bitter in soul;
20 Por que se dá luz ao miserável, e vida aos amargurados de ânimo,
21 who is waiting for death, but it is not; and they dig for it more than for treasures?
21 que esperam a morte, e ela não vem; e cavam em procura dela mais do que de tesouros ocultos;
22 They are rejoicing to exultation. They are glad when they find the grave.
22 que de alegria saltam, e exultam, achando a sepultura?
23 To a man whose way is hidden, God has made a hedge about him.
23 Por que se dá luz ao homem, cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus o encobriu?
24 For my sighing comes before my food; and my groanings are poured out like the waters.
24 Porque antes do meu pão vem o meu suspiro; e os meus gemidos se derramam como água.
25 For the dreadful thing I dreaded has come on me; and that which I feared has come to me.
25 Porque o que eu temia me veio, e o que receava me aconteceu.
26 I am not at ease, nor am I at rest; nor am I quiet; yet turmoil comes.
26 Nunca estive descansado, nem sosseguei, nem repousei, mas veio sobre mim a perturbação.
