1 Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
1 Provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel,
2 To know wisdom and instruction, to understand sayings of understanding,
2 para conhecer a sabedoria e a instrução, para compreender as palavras sensatas,
3 to gain ⌞insightful instruction⌟, righteousness and justice and equity,
3 para adquirir as lições do bom senso, da justiça, da eqüidade e da retidão;
4 to give shrewdness to the simple, knowledge and purpose to the young,
4 para dar aos simples o discernimento, ao adolescente a ciência e a reflexão.
5 may the wise hear and increase learning, and the one who understands gain direction,
5 Que o sábio escute, e aumentará seu saber, e o homem inteligente adquirirá prudência
6 to understand a proverb and an expression, words of wisdom and their riddles.
6 para compreender os provérbios, as alegorias, as máximas dos sábios e seus enigmas.
7 Fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; wisdom and instruction, fools despise.
7 O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria. Os insensatos desprezam a sabedoria e a instrução.
8 My child, may you keep your father’s instruction, and do not reject your mother’s teachings,
8 Ouve, meu filho, a instrução de teu pai: não desprezes o ensinamento de tua mãe.
9 for they are a garland of favor for your head, and pendants for your neck.
9 Isto será, pois, um diadema de graça para tua cabeça e um colar para teu pescoço.
10 My child, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
10 Meu filho, se pecadores te quiserem seduzir, não consintas;
11 If they say, “Come with us! We shall lie in wait for blood; we shall ambush the innocent without cause.
11 se te disserem: Vem conosco, faremos emboscadas, para {derramar} sangue, armaremos ciladas ao inocente, sem motivo,
12 Like Sheol, we will swallow them alive and whole, ⌞like those who descend to the pit⌟.
12 como a região dos mortos devoremo-lo vivo, inteiro, como aquele que desce à cova.
13 We shall find all precious wealth, we shall fill our houses with booty,
13 Nós acharemos toda a sorte de coisas preciosas, nós encheremos nossas casas de despojos.
14 you shall throw your lot in our midst, there will be one purse for all of us.”
14 Tu desfrutarás tua parte conosco, uma só será a bolsa comum de todos nós!
15 My child, do not walk in their way. Keep your foot from their paths,
15 Oh, não andes com eles, afasta teus passos de suas sendas,
16 for their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed blood,
16 porque seus passos se dirigem para o mal, e se apressam a derramar sangue.
17 for “in vain is the net scattered, in the sight of any ⌞winged bird⌟.”
17 Debalde se lança a rede diante daquele que tem asas.
18 They lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush their own lives.
18 Eles mesmos armam emboscadas contra seu próprio sangue e se enganam a si mesmos.
19 Thus are the ways of all who are greedy for gain— it will take the life of its possessors.
19 Tal é a sorte de todo homem ávido de riqueza: arrebata a vida àquele que a detém.
20 Wisdom calls out in the streets, in the squares she raises her voice.
20 A Sabedoria clama nas ruas, eleva sua voz na praça,
21 On a ⌞busy corner⌟ she cries out, at the entrances of the gates in the city, she speaks her sayings:
21 clama nas esquinas da encruzilhada, à entrada das portas da cidade ela faz ouvir sua voz: e até quando os que zombam se comprazerão na zombaria?
22 “⌞How long⌟, O simple ones, will you love simplicity? And how long will scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge?
22 Até quando, insensatos, amareis a tolice, e os tolos odiarão a ciência?
23 May you turn to my argument! Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.
23 Convertei-vos às minhas admoestações, espalharei sobre vós o meu espírito, ensinar-vos-ei minhas palavras.
24 Because I called out and you refused me, I stretched out my hand, yet there is none who heeds.
24 Uma vez que recusastes o meu chamado e ninguém prestou atenção quando estendi a mão,
25 You have ignored all my counsel, and my reproof you are not willing to accept.
25 uma vez que negligenciastes todos os meus conselhos e não destes ouvidos às minhas admoestações,
26 I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when panic comes upon you.
26 também eu me rirei do vosso infortúnio e zombarei, quando vos sobrevier um terror,
27 When your panic comes like a storm, and your calamity arrives like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you,
27 quando vier sobre vós um pânico, como furacão; quando se abater sobre vós a calamidade, como a tempestade; e quando caírem sobre vós tribulação e angústia.
28 then they will call me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but not find me.
28 Então me chamarão, mas não responderei; procurar-me-ão, mas não atenderei.
29 Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Yahweh,
29 Porque detestam a ciência sem lhe antepor o temor do Senhor,
30 they were not willing to accept my counsel, they despised all my reproof.
30 porque repelem meus conselhos com desprezo às minhas exortações;
31 They shall eat from the fruit of their way, and they shall be sated from their own schemes,
31 comerão do fruto dos seus erros e se saciarão com seus planos,
32 for the waywardness of the simple ones will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
32 porque a apostasia dos tolos os mata e o desleixo dos insensatos os perde.
33 Whoever listens to me will dwell in security and rest securely from dread and disaster.”
33 Aquele que me escuta, porém, habitará com segurança, viverá tranqüilo, sem recear dano algum.
