1 “Indeed, there is a mine for silver and a place ⌞for gold to be refined⌟.
1 “As pessoas sabem de onde extrair a prata e onde refinar o ouro.
2 Iron is taken from dust, and he pours out copper from ore.
2 Sabem de onde tirar o ferro da terra e como separar o cobre da rocha.
3 He puts an end to darkness, and he searches out the farthest limits for the ore in gloom and deep shadow.
3 Sabem fazer brilhar luz na escuridão e procurar minério nas regiões mais distantes, em meio às trevas profundas.
4 He breaks open a mine shaft ⌞away from where people dwell⌟; those who are forgotten ⌞by travelers⌟, they dangle, they sway far away from human beings.
4 Cavam entradas para minas, em lugares onde ninguém vive. Descem por meio de cordas, balançando de um lado para o outro.
5 As for the earth, from it comes food, but underneath it, it is turned up as by fire.
5 O alimento cresce na superfície, mas, abaixo dela, a terra é derretida como que por fogo.
6 Its stones are the place of sapphire, and the earthen dirt ⌞has⌟ gold.
6 Ali, as rochas contêm safiras, e, no pó, se encontra ouro.
7 “It is a path a bird of prey does not know and the black kite’s eye has not seen.
7 São tesouros que nenhuma ave de rapina consegue enxergar, nem o olho do falcão pode ver.
8 ⌞Proud wild animals⌟ have not trodden it; the lion in its prime has not prowled over it.
8 Nenhum animal selvagem pisou nessas riquezas, nenhum leão pôs a pata sobre elas.
9 He puts his hand on the hard rock; he overturns mountains by the roots.
9 As pessoas sabem como despedaçar as rochas mais duras e como revirar até as raízes dos montes.
10 He cuts out tunnels in the rocks, and his eye sees every treasure.
10 Abrem túneis nas rochas e encontram pedras preciosas.
11 He dams up rivers from their sources, and he brings secret things to the light.
11 Represam a água dos ribeiros e trazem à luz tesouros ocultos.
12 “But from where will wisdom be found? And ⌞where in the world⌟ is the place of understanding?
12 “Mas onde se pode encontrar sabedoria? Onde se pode achar entendimento?
13 A human being does not know its proper value, and it is not found in the land of the living.
13 Ninguém sabe onde encontrá-la, pois ela não se acha entre os vivos.
14 The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
14 ‘Não está aqui’, diz o abismo, ‘Nem aqui’, diz o mar.
15 “Refined gold cannot be gotten in its place, and silver cannot be weighed out as its price.
15 Não se pode comprá-la com ouro, nem adquiri-la com prata.
16 It cannot be bought for the gold of Ophir, for precious onyx or sapphire.
16 Vale mais que todo o ouro de Ofir, mais que o ônix precioso e a safira.
17 Gold and glass cannot be compared with it, and its substitution cannot be an ornament of refined gold.
17 A sabedoria é mais valiosa que ouro e cristal; não se pode comprá-la com joias de ouro fino.
18 Black corals and crystal will not be mentioned, and wisdom’s price is more than red corals.
18 Coral e jaspe não se comparam a ela; o preço da sabedoria ultrapassa o dos rubis.
19 The topaz of Cush cannot be compared with it; it cannot be bought for pure gold.
19 Não se pode trocá-la pelo precioso topázio da Etiópia; ela vale mais que o ouro puríssimo.
20 Indeed, from where does wisdom come? And ⌞where in the world⌟ is the place of understanding?
20 “Onde, afinal, está a sabedoria? Onde está o entendimento?
21 It is hidden from the eyes of all living, and it is concealed from the birds of the heaven.
21 Está escondida dos olhos de toda a humanidade; nem mesmo as aves do céu conseguem descobri-la.
22 Abaddon and Death say, ‘We heard its rumor with our ears.’
22 A Destruição e a Morte dizem: ‘Ouvimos apenas rumores de onde encontrá-la’.
23 “God understands its way, and he knows its place,
23 “Somente Deus conhece o caminho para a sabedoria; ele sabe onde encontrá-la.
24 for he himself looks to the end of the earth; he sees under all the heaven.
24 Pois ele enxerga toda a terra; vê tudo que há debaixo do céu.
25 ⌞When he gave⌟ weight to the wind and he apportioned the waters by measure,
25 Determina a força dos ventos e o volume das águas.
26 ⌞when he made⌟ a rule for the rain and a way for the thunder’s lightning bolt,
26 Fez as leis para controlar a chuva e definiu o caminho dos relâmpagos.
27 then he saw it and talked about it; he established it, and moreover, he explored it.
27 Então viu a sabedoria e a avaliou; em seu lugar a pôs e cuidadosamente a examinou.
28 And to the human beings he said, ‘Look, the fear of the Lord is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”
28 É isto que ele diz a toda a humanidade: ‘O temor do Senhor é a verdadeira sabedoria; afastar-se do mal é o verdadeiro entendimento’”.
