1 Then Job, answering, said:
1 Então Jó respondeu:
2 I have often heard such things; you are all aggravating comforters.
2 “Tenho ouvido muitas coisas como estas. Todos vocês são consoladores que só aumentam o meu sofrimento.
3 Will there be no end to windy words? Or is it at all a burden to you, if you speak?
3 Será que não terão fim essas palavras vazias? Ou o que é que instiga você a responder assim?
4 I, too, can speak like you; and I also wish that your soul favored my soul.
4 Eu também poderia falar como vocês falam. Se vocês estivessem em meu lugar, eu poderia dirigir-lhes um montão de palavras e balançar a cabeça na presença de vocês.
5 I would also comfort you with speeches and would wag my head over you.
5 Poderia fortalecê-los com as minhas palavras, e a consolação dos meus lábios abrandaria a dor de vocês.
6 I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as if being lenient to you.
6 Se eu falar, a minha dor não cessa; se me calar, qual é o meu alívio?”
7 But what can I do? When I am speaking, my grief will not be quiet; and if I am quiet, it will not withdraw from me.
7 “Na verdade, esgotaste as minhas forças; tu, ó Deus, destruíste toda a minha família.
8 But now my grief has crushed me, and all my limbs have been reduced to nothing.
8 Testemunha disto é que me deixaste enrugado; a minha magreza já se levanta contra mim e me acusa cara a cara.”
9 My wrinkles bear witness against me, and a liar rises up against my face, contradicting me.
9 “Na sua ira me despedaçou e me perseguiu; rangeu os dentes contra mim e, como meu adversário, aguça os olhos.
10 He has gathered together his fury towards me, and, threatening me, he has roared against me with his teeth; my enemy has beheld me with terrible eyes.
10 Homens abrem a sua boca contra mim, com desprezo me esbofeteiam; todos se ajuntam contra mim.
11 They have opened their mouths against me, and, reproaching me, they have struck me on the cheek; they are nourished by my sufferings.
11 Deus me entrega aos ímpios e me faz cair nas mãos dos perversos.
12 God has confined me with the immoral, and he has delivered me into the hands of the impious.
12 Eu vivia em paz, porém ele me esmagou; pegou-me pelo pescoço e me despedaçou; ele fez de mim o seu alvo.
13 I, who once was wealthy, am now crushed. He has grabbed me by my neck; he has broken me and has placed me before him as a sign.
13 As suas flechas me atingem de todos os lados; atravessa-me os rins, e não me poupa, derrama o meu fel sobre a terra.
14 He has surrounded me with his lances. He has severely wounded my lower back, he has not been lenient, and he has poured out my organs upon the earth.
14 Ele me fere com golpes e mais golpes; arremete contra mim como um guerreiro.”
15 He has cut me with wound after wound. He has rushed upon me like a giant.
15 “Costurei uma roupa feita de pano de saco sobre a minha pele e enterrei o meu orgulho no pó.
16 I have sewn sackcloth over my skin, and I have covered my body with ashes.
16 O meu rosto está vermelho de tanto chorar, e sobre as minhas pálpebras está a sombra da morte,
17 My face is swollen from weeping, and my eyelids have dimmed my vision.
17 embora não haja violência nas minhas mãos, e seja pura a minha oração.”
18 These things I have endured without iniquity in my hand, while I held pure prayers before God.
18 “Ó terra, não cubra o meu sangue, e não haja lugar em que se oculte o meu clamor!
19 O earth, do not conceal my blood, nor let my outcry find a hiding place in you.
19 Já agora a minha testemunha está no céu, e nas alturas se encontra quem advoga a minha causa.
20 For behold, my witness is in heaven, and my confidante is on high.
20 Os meus amigos zombam de mim, mas os meus olhos se desfazem em lágrimas diante de Deus,
21 My friends are full of words; my eye rains tears upon God.
21 para que ele mantenha o direito do homem contra o próprio Deus e o do filho do homem contra o seu próximo.
22 And I wish that a man might be so judged before God, just as the son of man is judged with his assistant!
22 Porque dentro de poucos anos eu seguirei o caminho de onde não voltarei.”
23 For behold, a few years pass by, and I am walking a path by which I will not return.
