¹ In those days the multitude being very great, and not having what they may eat, Jesus having called near his disciples, said to them,

¹ Naqueles dias, quando outra vez se reuniu grande multidão, e não tendo o que comer, Jesus chamou os discípulos e lhes disse:

² 'I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they do continue with me, and they have not what they may eat;

² — Tenho compaixão desta gente, porque já faz três dias que eles estão comigo e não têm o que comer.

³ and if I shall let them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way, for certain of them are come from far.'

³ Se eu os mandar para casa em jejum, desfalecerão pelo caminho; e alguns deles vieram de longe.

⁴ And his disciples answered him, 'Whence shall any one be able these here to feed with bread in a wilderness?'

⁴ Mas os discípulos lhe responderam: — Como poderá alguém saciá-los de pão neste deserto?

⁵ And he was questioning them, 'How many loaves have you?' and they said, 'Seven.'

⁵ Então Jesus perguntou: Eles responderam: — Sete.

⁶ And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground, and having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, he brake, and was giving to his disciples that they may set before them; and they did set before the multitude.

⁶ Então mandou o povo assentar-se no chão. E, pegando os sete pães, partiu-os, após ter dado graças, e os deu aos seus discípulos, para que estes os distribuíssem, repartindo entre o povo.

⁷ And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed, he said to set them also before them;

⁷ Tinham também alguns peixinhos. E, abençoando-os, mandou que estes igualmente fossem distribuídos.

⁸ and they did eat and were filled, and they took up that which was over of broken pieces -- seven baskets;

⁸ Comeram e se fartaram; e dos pedaços restantes recolheram sete cestos.

⁹ and those eating were about four thousand. And he let them away,

⁹ Eram cerca de quatro mil homens. Então Jesus os despediu.

¹⁰ and immediately having entered into the boat with his disciples, he came to the parts of Dalmanutha,

¹⁰ Logo a seguir, tendo entrado no barco juntamente com os seus discípulos, foi para a região de Dalmanuta.

¹¹ and the Pharisees came forth, and began to dispute with him, seeking from him a sign from the heaven, tempting him;

¹¹ Os fariseus chegaram e começaram a discutir com Jesus. E, tentando-o, pediram-lhe um sinal vindo do céu.

¹² and having sighed deeply in his spirit, he said, 'Why does this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.'

¹² Jesus, porém, arrancou do íntimo do seu espírito um gemido e disse:

¹³ And having left them, having entered again into the boat, he went away to the other side;

¹³ E, deixando-os, tornou a embarcar e foi para o outro lado.

¹⁴ and they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf they had nothing with them in the boat,

¹⁴ Ora, os discípulos se esqueceram de levar pão e, no barco, não tinham consigo senão um só.

¹⁵ and he was charging them, saying, 'Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,'

¹⁵ Jesus os preveniu, dizendo:

¹⁶ and they were reasoning with one another, saying -- 'Because we have no loaves.'

¹⁶ E eles começaram a discutir entre si, dizendo: — Ele diz isso porque não temos pão.

¹⁷ And Jesus having known, said to them, 'Why do you reason, because you have no loaves? do you not yet perceive, nor understand, yet have you your heart hardened?

¹⁷ Jesus percebeu isso e perguntou:

¹⁸ Having eyes, do you not see? and having ears, do you not hear? and do you not remember?

¹⁸ Tendo olhos, não veem? E, tendo ouvidos, não ouvem? Não se lembram

¹⁹ When the five loaves I did brake to the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took you up?' they say to him, 'Twelve.'

¹⁹ de quando parti os cinco pães para os cinco mil, quantos cestos cheios de pedaços vocês recolheram? Eles responderam: — Doze!

²⁰ 'And when the seven to the four thousand, how many hand-baskets full of broken pieces took you up?' and they said, 'Seven.'

²⁰ — E de quando parti os sete pães para os quatro mil, quantos cestos cheios de pedaços vocês recolheram? Responderam: — Sete!

²¹ And he said to them, 'How do you not understand?'

²¹ Ao que Jesus lhes disse:

²² And he comes to Bethsaida, and they bring to him one blind, and call upon him that he may touch him,

²² Então chegaram a Betsaida. E lhe trouxeram um cego e pediram a Jesus que tocasse nele.

²³ and having taken the hand of the blind man, he led him forth without the village, and having spit on his eyes, having put his hands on him, he was questioning him if he does behold anything:

²³ Jesus, tomando o cego pela mão, levou-o para fora da aldeia. Então cuspiu nos olhos do homem e, impondo-lhe as mãos, perguntou:

²⁴ and he, having looked up, said, 'I behold men, as I see trees, walking.'

²⁴ O homem, recuperando a visão, respondeu: — Vejo pessoas, mas elas parecem árvores que andam.

²⁵ Afterwards again he put his hands on his eyes, and made him look up, and he was restored, and discerned all things clearly,

²⁵ Então Jesus novamente pôs as mãos sobre os olhos dele. E o homem, passando a ver claramente, ficou restabelecido; e distinguia tudo de modo perfeito.

²⁶ and he sent him away to his house, saying, 'Neither to the village may you go, nor tellit to any in the village.'

²⁶ E Jesus o mandou para casa, recomendando-lhe:

²⁷ And Jesus went forth, and his disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and in the way he was questioning his disciples, saying to them, 'Who do men say me to be?'

²⁷ Então Jesus e os seus discípulos foram para as aldeias de Cesareia de Filipe. No caminho, perguntou-lhes:

²⁸ And they answered, 'John the Baptist, and others Elijah, but others one of the prophets.'

²⁸ Os discípulos responderam: — Uns dizem que é João Batista; outros dizem que é Elias; e ainda outros dizem que é um dos profetas.

²⁹ And he said to them, 'And you -- who do you say me to be?' and Peter answering said to him, 'You are the Christ.'

²⁹ Então Jesus perguntou: Respondendo, Pedro lhe disse: — O senhor é o Cristo.

³⁰ And he strictly charged them that they may tell no one about it,

³⁰ Então Jesus os advertiu de que a ninguém dissessem tal coisa a seu respeito.

³¹ and began to teach them, that it is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise again;

³¹ Então Jesus começou a ensinar-lhes que era necessário que o Filho do Homem sofresse muitas coisas, fosse rejeitado pelos anciãos, pelos principais sacerdotes e pelos escribas, fosse morto e que, depois de três dias, ressuscitasse.

³² and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him,

³² E isto ele expunha claramente. Então Pedro, chamando-o à parte, começou a repreendê-lo.

³³ and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, 'Get behind me, Adversary, because you do not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

³³ Mas Jesus, voltando-se e vendo os seus discípulos, repreendeu Pedro e disse:

³⁴ And having called near the multitude, with his disciples, he said to them, 'Whoever does will to come after me -- let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me;

³⁴ Então, convocando a multidão e juntamente os seus discípulos, Jesus lhes disse:

³⁵ for whoever may will to save his life shall lose it; and whoever may lose his life for my sake and for the good news' sake, he shall save it;

³⁵ Pois quem quiser salvar a sua vida a perderá; e quem perder a vida por minha causa e por causa do evangelho, esse a salvará.

³⁶ for what shall it profit a man, if he may gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

³⁶ De que adianta uma pessoa ganhar o mundo inteiro e perder a sua alma?

³⁷ Or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

³⁷ Que daria uma pessoa em troca de sua alma?

³⁸ for whoever may be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also shall be ashamed of him, when he may come in the glory of his Father, with the holy messengers.'

³⁸ Pois quem, nesta geração adúltera e pecadora, se envergonhar de mim e das minhas palavras, também o Filho do Homem se envergonhará dele, quando vier na glória do seu Pai com os santos anjos.
