1 Then went forth Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob,to see the daughters of the land.
1 Certa vez Dina, a filha de Jacó e de Leia, foi fazer uma visita a algumas moças daquele lugar.
2 And Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the lend, saw her,so he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her.
2 Hamor, o heveu, que era chefe daquela região, tinha um filho chamado Siquém. Este viu Dina, pegou-a e a forçou a ter relações com ele.
3 And his soul clave unto Dinah, daughter of Jacob,and he loved the young woman, and spake to the heart of the young woman.
3 E ele a achou tão atraente, que se apaixonou por ela e procurou fazer com que ela o amasse.
4 Then spake Shechem unto Hamor his father, saying,Take me this girl to wife!
4 Depois disse ao seu pai: — Peça esta moça em casamento para mim.
5 Now, Jacob, had heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter, but, his sons, happened to be with his cattle in the field,so Jacob kept quiet until they came in.
5 Jacó ficou sabendo que Siquém havia desonrado a sua filha Dina. Porém, como os seus filhos estavam no campo com o gado, não disse nada até que eles voltaram para casa.
6 Then came forth Hamor, father of Shechem, unto Jacob,to speak with him.
6 Enquanto isso, Hamor, o pai de Siquém, foi falar com Jacó.
7 Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field as soon as they heard, and the men were grieved, and it was vexing to them exceedingly,for, a disgraceful deed, had he done with Israel in lying with Jacobs daughter, seeing that so, it should not be done.
7 Quando os filhos de Jacó chegaram do campo e souberam do caso, ficaram indignados e furiosos, pois Siquém havia feito uma coisa vergonhosa em Israel, desonrando a filha de Jacó. Isso era uma coisa que não se devia fazer.
8 So then Hamor spake with them sayingAs for Shechem my son, his soul hath be-come attached to your daughter,I pray you give her to him, to wife.
8 Mas Hamor lhes disse: — O meu filho Siquém está apaixonado pela filha de vocês. Eu peço que vocês deixem que ela case com ele.
9 And exchange ye daughters with us in marriage,your daughters, shall ye give to us, and our daughters, shall ye take to you.
9 Fiquemos parentes; nós casaremos com as filhas de vocês, e vocês casarão com as nossas.
10 And with us, stroll ye dwell,and, the land, shall be before you, tarry, and go through it, and get possessions therein.
10 Fiquem aqui com a gente, morando na nossa região. Comprem terras onde quiserem e façam negócios por aqui.
11 Then said Shechem unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find favour in your eyes,and, whatsoever ye may say unto me, will I give:
11 Depois Siquém disse ao pai e aos irmãos de Dina: — Façam este favor para mim, e eu lhes darei o que quiserem.
12 Heap on me, exceedingly, dowry and gift, and I will give, just as ye may say unto me,but give me the young woman, to wife.
12 Peçam os presentes que quiserem e digam quanto querem que eu pague pela moça, mas deixem que ela case comigo.
13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and spake (because he had defiled Dinah their sister)
13 Como Siquém havia desonrado a irmã deles, os filhos de Jacó foram falsos na resposta que deram a ele e ao seu pai Hamor.
14 and said unto themWe cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man that is uncircumcised,for a reproach, it would be to us.
14 Eles disseram assim: — Não podemos deixar que a nossa irmã case com um homem que não tenha sido
15 Only herein, can we consent to you,If ye will become like us, by circumcising to you every male,
15 Só podemos aceitar com esta condição: que vocês fiquem como nós, quer dizer, que todos os seus homens sejam circuncidados.
16 then will we give our daughters to you, and your daughters, will we take to us,and we will dwell with you, and become one people.
16 Aí, sim, vocês poderão casar com as nossas filhas, e nós casaremos com as filhas de vocês. Nós viveremos no meio de vocês, e seremos todos um povo só.
17 But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter and be gone.
17 Mas, se vocês não aceitarem a nossa condição e não quiserem ser circuncidados, nós iremos embora e levaremos a nossa irmã.
18 And their words looked fair in the eyes of Hamor,and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamors son;
18 Hamor e o seu filho Siquém concordaram com a condição.
19 and the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacobs daughter,he, moreover being more honourable than all the house of his father.
19 Sem perda de tempo, o moço foi circuncidado, pois estava apaixonado pela filha de Jacó. E Siquém era a pessoa mais respeitada na família do seu pai.
20 So Hamor entered with Shechem his son into the gate of their city,and they spake unto the men of their city, saying:
20 Depois Hamor e o seu filho Siquém foram até o portão da cidade, onde eram tratados os negócios, e disseram aos moradores da cidade:
21 As for these men, in peace, they are with uslet them therefore dwell in the land and go through it, for, the land, lo! it is roomy on both hands before them,their daughters, let us take to us for wives, and our daughters, let us give to them.
21 — Essa gente é amiga. Vamos deixar que eles fiquem morando e negociando aqui, pois há terras que chegam para eles. Nós poderemos casar com as filhas deles, e eles poderão casar com as nossas.
22 Only herein, will the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people,If we circumcise to us every male, even as they are circumcised.
22 Mas eles só concordam em viver entre nós e se tornar um só povo com a gente se aceitarmos esta condição: todos os nossos homens precisam ser circuncidados, como eles são.
23 Their herds and their substance, and all their beasts, shall they, not be, ours? Only, we must consent to them, that they may dwell with us.
23 E será que não ficaremos com todo o gado deles e com tudo o que eles têm? É só aceitarmos a condição, e eles ficarão morando entre nós.
24 And they hearkened unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, even all that were going forth out of the gate of his city,and every male was circumcised, all that were going forth out of the gate of his city.
24 Todos os homens maiores de idade concordaram com Hamor e com o seu filho Siquém e foram circuncidados.
25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob Simeon and Levi, Dinahs brothers, took each man his sword, and came in upon the city, boldly,and slew every, male;
25 Três dias depois, quando os homens sentiam fortes dores, dois filhos de Jacó, Simeão e Levi, irmãos de Dina, pegaram as suas espadas, entraram na cidade sem ninguém notar e mataram todos os homens.
26 Hamor also, and Shechem his son, slew they with the edge of the sword,and took Dinah out of the house of Shechem, and came forth,
26 E Hamor e Siquém também foram mortos. Em seguida Simeão e Levi tiraram Dina da casa de Siquém e saíram.
27 The sons of Jacob, came in upon the slain and plundered the city,because they had defiled their sister:
27 Depois da matança os outros filhos de Jacó roubaram as coisas de valor que havia na cidade para se vingar da desonra da sua irmã.
28 their flocks, and their herds and their asses,and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field, they took;
28 Eles levaram as ovelhas e as cabras, o gado, os jumentos e tudo o que havia na cidade e no campo.
29 and all their wealth and all their little ones, and their women, took they captive, and seized as plunder,even all that was in their houses.
29 Tiraram das casas todas as coisas de valor e levaram como prisioneiras as mulheres e as crianças.
30 Then said Jacob unto Simeon and unto LeviYe have troubled me by making me odious among them that dwell in the land, among the Canaanites, and among the Perizzites,I, having only men that may be counted, they will gather themselves, together against me and smite me,and I shall be destroyed both I and my house.
30 Então Jacó disse a Simeão e a Levi: — Vocês me puseram numa situação difícil. Agora os cananeus, os perizeus e todos os moradores destas terras vão ficar com ódio de mim. Eu não tenho muitos homens. Se eles se ajuntarem e me atacarem, a minha família inteira será morta.
31 And they said,As with a harlot, was he to deal with our sister.
31 Mas eles responderam: — Nós não podíamos deixar que a nossa irmã fosse tratada como uma prostituta.
