1 Then Jacob lifted up his feet,and went his way towards the land of the sons of the East.
1 Jacó seguiu viagem e, por fim, chegou à terra do leste.
2 And he looked, and lo! a well, in the field and lo! there, three flocks of sheep, lying down near it, for out of that well, do they water the flocks, but, the stone, is great, on the mouth of the well:
2 Viu um poço ao longe e, junto ao poço, no campo, três rebanhos de ovelhas, à espera de que lhes dessem água. Uma pedra pesada cobria a boca do poço.
3 so they gather together thither all the flocks, and roll away the stone from off the mouth of the well, and water the sheep,and put hack the stone upon the mouth of the well, to its place.
3 Era costume naquele lugar esperar que todos os rebanhos chegassem para, então, remover a pedra e dar água aos animais. Depois, a pedra era recolocada na boca do poço.
4 And Jacob said to them, My brethren, whence are ye? And they said: From haran, are we.
4 Jacó se aproximou dos pastores e perguntou: “De onde vocês são, amigos?”. “Somos de Harã”, disseram eles.
5 And he said to them, Know ye Laban, son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
5 “Conhecem um homem chamado Labão, neto de Naor?”, perguntou Jacó. “Sim, conhecemos”, responderam eles.
6 And he said to them, Is it well with him. And they said, Well, but lo! Rachel his daughter, coming in with the sheep.
6 “Ele vai bem?”, perguntou Jacó. “Sim, vai bem”, disseram. “Olhe, ali vem Raquel, filha dele, com o rebanho.”
7 And he said Lo! the day is yet high, it is not time for gathering together the cattle,water the sheep, and go feed.
7 Jacó disse: “Ainda é dia claro, cedo demais para recolher os animais. Por que vocês não dão de beber às ovelhas, para que elas possam voltar a pastar?”.
8 And they said, We cannot, until that all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll away the stone, from off the mouth of the well,and then can we water the sheep.
8 “Não podemos dar de beber aos animais enquanto não chegarem todos os rebanhos”, responderam. “Só então os pastores removem a pedra da boca do poço e damos de beber a todas as ovelhas.”
9 While yet he was speaking with them, Rachel, had come in with the sheep which belonged to her father, for a shepherdess, was she.
9 Jacó ainda conversava com eles quando Raquel chegou com o rebanho de seu pai, pois era pastora.
10 And it came to pass when Jacob saw Rachel daughter of Laban, his mothers brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mothers brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled away the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watered the sheep of Laban his mothers brother,
10 Uma vez que Raquel era sua prima, filha de Labão, irmão de sua mãe, e as ovelhas pertenciam a seu tio Labão, Jacó foi até o poço, removeu a pedra que o cobria e deu de beber ao rebanho de seu tio.
11 And Jacob kissed Rachel,and lifted up his voice, and wept.
11 Então Jacó beijou Raquel e chorou em alta voz.
12 And when Jacob told Rachel that he was her fathers brother, and that he was Rebekahs son, then ran she, and told her father.
12 Explicou para Raquel que era seu primo por parte do pai dela e filho de Rebeca, tia dela. Raquel foi correndo contar a seu pai, Labão.
13 And it came to pass when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sisters son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fondly kissed him, and brought him into his house,when he recounted to Laban all these things.
13 Assim que Labão soube que seu sobrinho Jacó havia chegado, correu ao seu encontro. Ele o abraçou, o beijou e o levou para casa. Depois que Jacó lhe contou sua história,
14 And Laban said to him, Surely, my bone and my flesh, art thou. So he abode with him a month of days.
14 Labão exclamou: “Você é, de fato, sangue do meu sangue!”. Quando Jacó estava na casa de Labão havia cerca de um mês,
15 Then said Laban to Jacob, Is it because my brother, thou art, that thou shouldst serve me for naught? Come tell me! What shall be thy wages?
15 Labão lhe disse: “Você não deve trabalhar de graça para mim só porque somos parentes. Diga-me qual deve ser o seu salário”.
16 Now, Laban, had two daughters,the name of the elder, Leah, and the name of the younger, Rachel,
16 Labão tinha duas filhas. A mais velha se chamava Lia, e a mais nova, Raquel.
17 But, the eyes of Leah were weak,whereas, Rachel, was comely in form and comely in countenance.
17 Os olhos de Lia eram sem brilho, mas Raquel tinha bela aparência e rosto atraente.
18 So Jacob loved Rachel,and he said, I will serve thee seven years, for Rachel thy younger daughter.
18 Visto que Jacó estava apaixonado por Raquel, disse a Labão: “Trabalharei para o senhor por sete anos se me der Raquel, sua filha mais nova, para ser minha esposa”.
19 And Laban said, Better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man,Abide with me!
19 “Melhor entregá-la a você do que a qualquer outro”, respondeu Labão. “Fique aqui e trabalhe comigo.”
20 So Jacob served for Rachelseven years,and they became, in his eyes, as single days, for his love to her.
20 Então Jacó trabalhou sete anos por Raquel. Ele a amava tanto que lhe pareceram apenas alguns dias.
21 Then said Jacob unto Laban: Come give me my wife, for fulfilled are my days,that I may go in unto her.
21 Chegada a hora, Jacó disse a Labão. “Cumpri minha parte do acordo. Agora, dê-me minha esposa, para que eu me deite com ela.”
22 So Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a banquet,
22 Labão convidou toda a vizinhança e preparou uma grande festa de casamento.
23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her in unto him,and he went in unto her.
23 À noite, porém, quando estava escuro, Labão tomou Lia e a entregou a Jacó, e Jacó se deitou com ela.
24 And Laban gave her Zilpah, his handmaid, unto Leah his daughter. as handmaid.
24 (Labão deu sua serva Zilpa a Lia para servi-la.)
25 And it came to pass in the morning, that lo! it was Leah,and he said unto Laban, What is this thou hast done to me? Was it not, for Rachel, I served with thee? Wherefore then hast thou deceived me?
25 Na manhã seguinte, quando Jacó acordou, viu que era Lia. Então Jacó perguntou a Labão: “O que o senhor fez comigo? Trabalhei sete anos por Raquel! Por que o senhor me enganou?”.
26 And Laban said, It must not be done so in our place,to give the later-born before the firstborn.
26 Labão respondeu: “Aqui não é costume casar a filha mais nova antes da mais velha.
27 Fulfil the week of this one,then must we give thee, the other one also, for the service wherewith thou shalt serve with me, yet seven years more.
27 Espere, contudo, até terminar a semana de núpcias, e eu também lhe entregarei Raquel, desde que você prometa trabalhar mais sete anos para mim”.
28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled the week of this one,and he gave him Rachel his daughterto him to wife.
28 Jacó concordou em trabalhar mais sete anos. Uma semana depois de Jacó ter se casado com Lia, Labão lhe entregou Raquel.
29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid,to be hers as a handmaid.
29 (Labão deu sua serva Bila a Raquel para servi-la.)
30 So he went in, unto Rachel also, and loved, Rachel also, more than Leah,and he served with him, yet seven years more.
30 Jacó se deitou também com Raquel, a quem ele amava muito mais que a Lia. Então permaneceu ali e trabalhou mais sete anos para Labão.
31 And, when Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, he granted her to bear children,whereas, Rachel, was barren.
31 Quando o S enhor viu que Lia não era amada, permitiu que ela tivesse filhos; Raquel, porém, era estéril.
32 So Leah conceived, and hare a son, and called his name Reuben,for she said, Because, Yahweh hath looked upon my humiliation, For, now, will my husband love me.
32 Lia engravidou e deu à luz um filho. Chamou-o de Rúben, pois disse: “O S enhor viu minha infelicidade, e agora meu marido me amará”.
33 And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said. Because Yahweh heard that, I, was I hated, he gave me, this one also. So she called his name Simeon.
33 Pouco tempo depois, Lia engravidou novamente e deu à luz outro filho. Chamou-o de Simeão, pois disse: “O S enhor ouviu que eu não era amada e me deu outro filho”.
34 And she conceived again and bare a son, and said, Nowthis time, will my husband he bound unto me, For I have borne him three sons,For this cause, called she his name Levi.
34 Lia engravidou pela terceira vez e deu à luz outro filho. Chamou-o de Levi, pois disse: “Certamente, desta vez meu marido terá afeição por mim, pois lhe dei três filhos!”.
35 And she conceived again and bare a son, and said This time, will I praise Yahweh, For which cause, she called his name Judah. And she left off bearing.
35 Lia engravidou mais uma vez e deu à luz outro filho. Chamou-o de Judá, pois disse: “Agora louvarei ao S enhor !”. Então, parou de ter filhos.
