1 Now, Abraham, was old, far gone in days,and, Yahweh, had blessed Abraham, in all things.
1 O velho Abraão estava avançado em idade, e o Senhor o tinha abençoado em todas as coisas.
2 So Abraham said unto his servant, elder of his house, ruler of all that he had,Place, I pray thee thy hand under my thigh;
2 Abraão disse ao servo mais antigo de sua casa, que administrava todos os seus bens: "Mete tua mão debaixo de minha coxa.
3 that I may put thee on oath, by Yahweh God of the heavens and God of the earthThat thou wilt not take a wife for my son, from among the daughters of the Canaanites in the midst of whom, I, am dwelling:
3 Quero que jures pelo Senhor, Deus do céu e da terra, que não escolherás para mulher de meu filho nenhuma das filhas dos cananeus, no meio dos quais habito;
4 but unto my own land and unto my own kindred, wilt go,So shalt thou take a wife for my sonfor Isaac.
4 mas irás à minha terra, à minha parentela, e lá escolherás uma mulher para o meu filho Isaac."
5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman may not be willing to follow me into this land,May I take back thy son, into the land from whence thou earnest?
5 O servo respondeu: "Talvez essa mulher não me quererá seguir a esta terra; nesse caso, poderei reconduzir o teu filho à terra de onde saíste?"
6 And Abraham said unto him,Beware that thou do not take back my son thither!
6 "Guarda-te bem, disse-lhe Abraão, de reconduzir para lá o meu filho!
7 Yahweh, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, who took me out of the house of my father, and out of the land of my kindred, and, who spake to me, and who sware to me, saying, To thy seed, will I give this land, he, will send his messenger before thee, so shalt then take a wife for my son from thence.
7 O Senhor Deus do céu, que me tirou da casa de meu pai e de minha pátria, que me disse e me jurou dar esta terra à minha posteridade, este Senhor mandará o seu anjo diante de ti, e tu escolherás lá uma mulher para o meu filho.
8 But if unwilling be the woman to follow thee, then shalt thou be clear from this mine oath,Only my son, shalt thou not take back thither
8 Mas, se ela não te quiser seguir, estarás desobrigado do juramento que te impus. Somente não reconduzas {de forma alguma} para lá o meu filho."
9 So the servant placed his hand, under the thigh of Abraham, his lord,and sware to him, over this thing.
9 Pôs, então, o servo sua mão debaixo da coxa de Abraão, seu senhor, e fez-lhe o juramento que ele pedia.
10 Then took the servant ten camels, from among the camels of his lord, and went his way,all the goods of his master being in his hand,so be mounted, and went his way unto Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
10 E, tendo tomado dez camelos do rebanho de seu senhor, partiu, levando as mãos cheias das riquezas de Abraão. E pôs-se a caminho, andando para a Mesopotâmia, para a cidade de Nacor.
11 And he made the camels kneel down outside the city, against the well of water,at the time of evening, at the time of the coming forth of the women that drew water,
11 E fez descansar os camelos fora da cidade, perto de um poço. Era pela tarde, à hora em que saíam as mulheres para ir buscar água.
12 Then he said, O Yahweh, God of my lord Abraham! I pray thee cause it to fall out before me today, that thou deal in lovingkindness with my lord Abraham.
12 "Senhor, disse ele, Deus de Abraão, meu senhor, fazei-me encontrar hoje o que desejo, e manifestar vossa bondade para com meu senhor Abraão.
13 Here am, I, stationed by the fountain of water,and, the daughters of the men of the city, are coming forth to draw water:
13 Eis-me aqui, de pé, junto desta fonte onde as filhas dos habitantes da cidade virão buscar água.
14 so it shall come to pass that the young woman unto whom I shall say. Let down pray. thy pitcher that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, that, her! hast thou appointed for thy servant for Isaac, And, hereby, shall I get to know, that thou hast dealt in lovingkindness with my lord!
14 Portanto, a donzela a quem eu disser: Inclina o teu cântaro, por favor, para que eu beba -, e me responder: Bebe, e darei de beber também aos teus camelos -, essa seja a que destina ao vosso servo Isaac. Por isto conhecerei que manifestais vossa bondade para com meu senhor."
15 And it came to pass, ere yet, he, had done speaking, that lo! Rebekah, was coming forth who had been born to Bethuel son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham,with her pitcher upon her shoulder,
15 Ainda não tinha acabado de falar, quando sobreveio, com um cântaro aos ombros, Rebeca, filha de Batuel, filho de Melca, mulher de Nacor, irmão de Abraão.
16 Now the young woman! was of very pleasing appearance, a virgin whom, no man, had known,and she went down unto the fountain, and filled her pitcher and came up.
16 A jovem era extremamente bela, virgem, e homem algum a havia possuído. Ela desceu à fonte, encheu o seu cântaro e ia voltando.
17 And the servant ran to meet her,and said, I pray thee let me drink a little water out of thy pitcher.
17 O servo correu-lhe ao encontro e disse-lhe: "Queres dar-me de beber um pouco da água de teu cântaro?"
18 And she said, Drink my lord,And she hastened and lowered her pitcher on her hand and let him drink.
18 "Bebe, meu senhor", respondeu ela. E prontamente inclinou o cântaro sobre o seu braço para lhe dar de beber.
19 And when she had done giving him drink,she said For thy camels also, will I draw, until they have done drinking.
19 Tendo ele bebido, ela disse: "Vou buscar água também para os teus camelos, para que todos bebam."
20 So she hastened and emptied her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and ran again unto the well, to draw,and she drew for all his camels.
20 E, despejando seu cântaro no bebedouro, correu a buscar água de novo na fonte para todos os camelos.
21 Now the man, was eagerly watching her,keeping silence to seewhether Yahweh had prospered his way., or not.
21 O homem contemplava em silêncio, curioso por saber se o Senhor tinha ou não tornado feliz a sua viagem.
22 And it came to pass when the camels had done drinking, that the man took a ring of gold, half a shekel its weight,and two bracelets for her hands, ten of gold their weight;
22 Quando os camelos acabaram de beber, o homem tirou um anel de ouro pesando meio siclo, e dois braceletes de ouro pesando dez siclos.
23 and said Whose daughter art, thou? I pray thee, tell me. Is there in the house of thy father a place for us to tarry the night?
23 E disse à jovem: "Dize-me, por favor: De quem és filha? Haveria na casa de teu pai um lugar para passarmos a noite?"
24 And she said unto him, Daughter of Bethuel, am, I, son of Milcah whom she bare to Nahor.
24 "Eu sou filha de Batuel, respondeu ela, o filho de Melca, que ela deu à luz a Nacor."
25 And she said unto him, Both straw and fodder in plenty, have we,also a place to tarry the night.
25 E ajuntou: "Há em nossa casa palha e forragem em abundância, e também lugar para passar a noite."
26 Then the man bowed his head, and bent himself down unto Yahweh;
26 Inclinou-se, então, o homem e prostrou-se diante do Senhor:
27 and said, Blessed be Yahweh. God of my lord Abraham, who hath not withdrawn his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, from my lord,Ibeing in the way, Yahweh led me unto the house of the brethren of my lord!
27 "Bendito seja, exclamou ele, o Senhor, o Deus de Abraão, meu senhor, que não faltou à sua bondade e à sua fidelidade para com ele. O Senhor conduziu-me diretamente à casa dos parentes de meu senhor."
28 And the young woman ran, and told the household of her mother,according to these words.
28 A jovem foi correndo contar à sua mãe tudo o que se tinha passado.
29 Now, Rebekah, had a brother, whose name, was Laban,so Laban ran unto the man outside, unto the fountain.
29 Rebeca tinha rim irmão chamado Labão. Este apressou-se em ir ao encontro do homem que se encontrava junto da fonte.
30 And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister saying, Thus, did the man speak unto me, that he came unto the man, and lo! he was standing by the camels near the fountain;
30 Ele tinha visto o anel e os braceletes nas mãos de sua irmã, e ouvido a narração de sua irmã Rebeca: "Esse homem me disse isso e aquilo." Foi ele, pois, ao encontro do estrangeiro e o achou perto dos camelos, na fonte.
31 and he said, Come in. thou blessed of Yahweh,Wherefore shouldst thou stand outside, when I have made ready the house and a place for the camels?
31 "Vem, bendito do Senhor, disse ele, por que permaneces aí fora? Preparei a casa e um lugar para os camelos."
32 So the man came in towards the house, and ungirded the camels,and there was given him straw and fodder for the camels, and water for bathing his own feet and the feet of the men who were with him;
32 E o homem entrou na casa. Descarregaram os camelos, deram-lhes palha e forragem, enquanto traziam ao estrangeiro e aos seus companheiros água para lavar os pés.
33 and was set before him to eat, But he said, I cannot eat, until I have spoken my words. And he saidSpeak!
33 Serviu-se-lhe em seguida de comer; mas ele disse: "Não comerei nada enquanto não expuser o que tenho a dizer." "Fala", disse Labão.
34 Then said he,Servant of Abraham, am I.
34 "Eu sou, disse ele, escravo de Abraão.
35 Now, Yahweh, having blessed my lord exceedingly, and made him great,and given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels, and asses,
35 O Senhor encheu de bênçãos o meu senhor, que se tornou poderoso; e deu-lhe ovelhas e bois, prata e ouro, servos e servas, camelos e jumentos.
36 then did Sarah wife of my lord, bear a son to my lord, after she had become old,so he gave to him all that he had;
36 Sara, mulher do meu senhor, apesar de sua velhice, deu-lhe à luz um filho, ao qual ele deu todos os seus bens.
37 And my lord put me on oath saying,Thou shalt not take a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land, I, am dwelling;
37 Então o meu senhor fez-me jurar que eu não escolheria para o seu filho uma mulher entre as filhas dos cananeus, em cuja terra ele mora,
38 but, unto the house of my father, shalt thou go, and unto my family,and take a wife for my son.
38 mas que viria à casa de seu pai, à sua família, para aí escolher uma mulher para o seu filho.
39 So I said unto my lord,Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
39 E eu disse-lhe: Talvez a mulher não me quererá seguir.
40 And he said unto me,Yahweh, before whom I have walked to and fro, will send his messenger with thee, so shall he prosper thy way, and thou shalt take a wife for my son out of my kindred and out of the house of my father.
40 'O Senhor, respondeu-me ele, em cujo caminho sempre andei, mandará o seu anjo contigo e fará bem-sucedida a tua viagem: escolherás para o meu filho uma mulher de minha família, na casa de meu pai.
41 Then, shalt thou clear thyself from mine oath, for thou shalt go in unto my kindred,and, if they will not grant her unto thee, then shalt thou be clear from mine oath.
41 Mas serás desobrigado do juramento que me fazes, se, tendo visitado minha parentela, encontrares oposição e não fores recebido.'
42 So I came in to-day, unto the fountain,and I said O Yahweh God of my lord Abraham! if, I pray thee thou art prospering my way whereon am going,
42 Ora, chegando hoje à fonte, eu disse: Senhor, Deus de meu senhor Abraão, se vos dignardes tornar bem-sucedida a viagem que empreendi {concedei-me isto:}
43 here, am I stationed by the fountain of water,so then it shall come to pass that, the maiden that is coming forth to draw, and I shall say unto her Let me drink. I pray thee a little water out of thy pitcher;
43 Ficarei perto da fonte; a jovem que vier buscar água, e a quem eu disser: Deixa-me, por favor, beber um pouco da água de teu cântaro,
44 and she shall say unto me Both, thou, drink, and for thy camels also, will I draw, the same, shall be the woman whom Yahweh hath appointed for the son of my lord.
44 e que me responder:'Bebe, e buscarei também água para os teus camelos', essa será a mulher que o Senhor destina ao filho de meu senhor.
45 Ere yet, I, could make an end of speaking unto mine own heart, lo! then Rebekah, coming forth, with her pitcher on her shoulder, and she went down to the fountain, and drew,and I said unto her Let me drink I pray thee!
45 Eu não tinha ainda acabado de falar comigo mesmo, quando veio Rebeca com o seu cântaro aos ombros, e desceu à fonte para buscar água. Eu disse-lhe: Dá-me de beber, por favor.
46 So she hastened and lowered her pitcher from off her, and said. Drink! and to thy camels also, will I give to drink,So I drank and the camels also, she let drink.
46 E, descendo logo o cântaro dos seus ombros, ela me disse: 'Bebe, e darei também de beber aos camelos.'
47 Then I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said Daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom, Milcah, bare to him,Then put I the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands;
47 Perguntei-lhe então de quem era filha. Ela respondeu-me: 'Sou filha de Batuel, filho de Nacor, que Melca lhe deu à luz.' Eu, pois, coloquei o anel em suas narinas e os braceletes em seus punhos.
48 and bowed my head and bent myself down unto Yahweh,and I blessed Yahweh God of my lord Abraham, who had led me in a way of faithfulness, to take the daughter of the brother of my lord for his son.
48 Inclinei-me, então, prostrando-me diante do Senhor, e bendisse o Senhor, o Deus de meu senhor Abraão, que me conduziu diretamente ao lugar onde eu podia tomar a filha do parente de meu senhor para o seu filho.
49 Now, therefore, if ye are dealing in lovingkindness and faithfulness with my lord, tell me,and, if not, tell me, that I may turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
49 Agora, se quiserdes testemunhar afeição e fidelidade ao meu senhor, dizei-mo; senão, dizei-mo também, para que eu tome outra direção."
50 Then answered Laban and Bethuel and said, from Yahweh, hath come forth the word,we cannot speak unto thee ill or well.
50 Labão e Batuel tomaram então a palavra: "Do Senhor veio tudo isso, disseram eles. Nada temos a dizer.
51 Go! Rebekah, is before thee, Take her and go thy way,And let her become wife unto the son of thy lord, as Yahweh hath spoken.
51 Eis aí Rebeca: toma-a e parte. Que ela seja a mulher do filho de teu senhor, como o Senhor disse."
52 And it came to pass when Abrahams servant heard their words, that he bowed himself down towards the earth unto Yahweh.
52 Ouvindo estas palavras, o servo de Abraão prostrou-se por terra diante do Senhor.
53 Then the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment, and gave unto Rebekah,and precious things, gave he to her brother and to her mother.
53 Tomando em seguida objetos de prata, objetos de ouro e vestidos, ofereceu-os como presente a Rebeca. Ofereceu também ricos presentes ao seu irmão e à sua mãe.
54 And they did eat and drink he, and the men who were with him, and they tarried the night,and when they arose in the morning, he said Let me go unto my lord!
54 Puseram-se então à mesa, ele e os seus companheiros, e passaram a noite. Levantando-se no dia seguinte, disse o servo: "Deixai-me partir para a casa do meu senhor."
55 Then said her brother and her mother, Let the young woman remain with us some days or rather ten,After that, she shall go.
55 Ao que o irmão e a mãe de Rebeca responderam: "Fique a jovem ainda conosco alguns dias, ao menos dez dias; depois disto partirá."
56 And he said unto them, Do not hinder me, when, Yahweh, hath prospered my journey,Let me go, that I may take my journey unto my lord!
56 "Não me retenhais, tornou ele: pois que o Senhor fez bem-sucedida a minha viagem, deixai-me partir e voltar para o meu senhor."
57 Then said they, We must call the young woman and ask at her mouth.
57 "Chamemos a jovem, disseram eles, e perguntemos-lhe o seu parecer."
58 So they called Rebekah and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
58 Chamaram Rebeca e disseram-lhe: "Queres partir com este homem?" "Sim", respondeu ela.
59 So they let go Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abrahams servant and his men.
59 Deixaram-na, pois, partir juntamente com sua ama-de-leite, com o servo de Abraão e seus companheiros.
60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister! become thou, thousands of ten thousands,And let thy seed take possession of the gate of them that hate them!
60 Eles abençoaram-na, dizendo: "Ó nossa irmã: possas tu tornar-te a mãe de milhares de miríades! E possua a tua posteridade a porta dos seus inimigos!"
61 Then mounted Rebekah and her young woman and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man,so the servant took Rebekah. and went his way.
61 Rebeca e suas servas levantaram-se, montaram nos camelos e seguiram o homem. Este conduzindo Rebeca, pôs-se logo a caminho.
62 Now, Isaac, had come in at the entrance, of Beer-lahai-roi,for, he, was dwelling in the land of the South:
62 Entretanto, Isaac tinha voltado do poço de Lacai-Roi, e habitava no Negeb.
63 and Isaac came forth to meditate in the field at the approach of evening,so he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! camels, coming in.
63 Uma tarde em que saíra para meditar no campo, levantando os olhos, viu alguns camelos que se aproximavam.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and saw Isaac,so she alighted with haste from off the camel;
64 Rebeca também, tendo levantado os olhos, viu Isaac, e desceu do camelo.
65 and said unto the servant, Who is this man that is walking in the field to meet us? And the servant said, That, is my lord. So she took the veil and covered herself.
65 Ela disse ao servo de Abraão: "Quem é aquele homem que vem ao nosso encontro no campo?" "É o meu senhor", respondeu ele. E ela tomou depressa o véu e cobriu-se.
66 And the servant recounted to Isaac,all the things which he had done.
66 O servo contou a Isaac tudo o que tinha feito.
67 And Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother; thus he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her,and Isaac consoled himself, for the loss of his mother.
67 E Isaac introduziu Rebeca na tenda de Sara, sua mãe. Desposou-a, e ela tornou-se sua mulher muito amada. E desse modo Isaac consolou-se da morte de sua mãe.
