1 Now, Abraham, was old, far gone in days,and, Yahweh, had blessed Abraham, in all things.
1 Abraão já era velho, de idade bem avançada, e o Senhor o havia abençoado em tudo.
2 So Abraham said unto his servant, elder of his house, ruler of all that he had,Place, I pray thee thy hand under my thigh;
2 Abraão disse ao mais antigo servo da sua casa, que governava tudo o que possuía: — Ponha a sua mão por baixo da minha coxa,
3 that I may put thee on oath, by Yahweh God of the heavens and God of the earthThat thou wilt not take a wife for my son, from among the daughters of the Canaanites in the midst of whom, I, am dwelling:
3 para que eu faça com que você jure pelo Senhor , Deus do céu e da terra, que você não buscará uma esposa para o meu filho entre as filhas dos cananeus, no meio dos quais estou morando,
4 but unto my own land and unto my own kindred, wilt go,So shalt thou take a wife for my sonfor Isaac.
4 mas que você irá à minha parentela e ali buscará uma esposa para Isaque, meu filho.
5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman may not be willing to follow me into this land,May I take back thy son, into the land from whence thou earnest?
5 Então o servo disse: — Talvez a mulher não queira vir comigo para esta terra. Nesse caso, devo levar o seu filho à terra de onde o senhor veio?
6 And Abraham said unto him,Beware that thou do not take back my son thither!
6 Abraão respondeu: — Cuidado! Não faça o meu filho voltar para lá.
7 Yahweh, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, who took me out of the house of my father, and out of the land of my kindred, and, who spake to me, and who sware to me, saying, To thy seed, will I give this land, he, will send his messenger before thee, so shalt then take a wife for my son from thence.
7 O Senhor , Deus do céu, que me tirou da casa de meu pai e da terra dos meus parentes, e que me falou, e jurou, dizendo: “À sua descendência darei esta terra”, ele enviará o seu anjo adiante de você, para que lá você encontre uma esposa para o meu filho.
8 But if unwilling be the woman to follow thee, then shalt thou be clear from this mine oath,Only my son, shalt thou not take back thither
8 Caso a mulher não queira vir, você ficará desobrigado do seu juramento; entretanto, não leve o meu filho para lá.
9 So the servant placed his hand, under the thigh of Abraham, his lord,and sware to him, over this thing.
9 Com isso, o servo pôs a sua mão por baixo da coxa de Abraão, seu senhor, e jurou fazer segundo o resolvido.
10 Then took the servant ten camels, from among the camels of his lord, and went his way,all the goods of his master being in his hand,so be mounted, and went his way unto Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
10 O servo pegou dez dos camelos do seu senhor e, levando consigo uma parte dos bens dele, levantou-se e partiu para a Mesopotâmia, para a cidade onde Naor havia morado.
11 And he made the camels kneel down outside the city, against the well of water,at the time of evening, at the time of the coming forth of the women that drew water,
11 Fora da cidade, fez os camelos se ajoelharem junto a um poço de água. Era de tardinha, a hora em que as moças saem para tirar água.
12 Then he said, O Yahweh, God of my lord Abraham! I pray thee cause it to fall out before me today, that thou deal in lovingkindness with my lord Abraham.
12 Então o servo orou: — Ó
13 Here am, I, stationed by the fountain of water,and, the daughters of the men of the city, are coming forth to draw water:
13 Eis que estou ao pé da fonte de água, e as filhas dos homens desta cidade saem para tirar água.
14 so it shall come to pass that the young woman unto whom I shall say. Let down pray. thy pitcher that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, that, her! hast thou appointed for thy servant for Isaac, And, hereby, shall I get to know, that thou hast dealt in lovingkindness with my lord!
14 Concede, pois, que a moça a quem eu disser: “Incline o cântaro para que eu beba”; e ela me responder: “Beba, e darei ainda de beber aos seus camelos”, seja a que designaste para o teu servo Isaque; e nisso verei que foste bondoso para com o meu senhor.
15 And it came to pass, ere yet, he, had done speaking, that lo! Rebekah, was coming forth who had been born to Bethuel son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham,with her pitcher upon her shoulder,
15 Antes que ele acabasse de orar, eis que surgiu Rebeca, filha de Betuel, filho de Milca, mulher de Naor, irmão de Abraão, trazendo um cântaro sobre o ombro.
16 Now the young woman! was of very pleasing appearance, a virgin whom, no man, had known,and she went down unto the fountain, and filled her pitcher and came up.
16 A moça era muito bonita, virgem, a quem nenhum homem havia possuído. Ela desceu até a fonte, encheu o seu cântaro e subiu.
17 And the servant ran to meet her,and said, I pray thee let me drink a little water out of thy pitcher.
17 Então o servo correu ao encontro dela e disse: — Peço que me deixe beber um pouco da água do seu cântaro.
18 And she said, Drink my lord,And she hastened and lowered her pitcher on her hand and let him drink.
18 Ela respondeu: — Beba, meu senhor. E prontamente, baixando o cântaro para a mão, deu-lhe de beber.
19 And when she had done giving him drink,she said For thy camels also, will I draw, until they have done drinking.
19 Depois de lhe dar de beber, disse: — Vou tirar água também para os seus camelos, até que todos bebam.
20 So she hastened and emptied her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and ran again unto the well, to draw,and she drew for all his camels.
20 E, apressando-se em despejar o cântaro no bebedouro, correu outra vez ao poço para tirar mais água; ela tirou água para todos os camelos.
21 Now the man, was eagerly watching her,keeping silence to seewhether Yahweh had prospered his way., or not.
21 O homem a observava, em silêncio, atentamente, para saber se o Senhor teria levado a bom termo a sua jornada ou não.
22 And it came to pass when the camels had done drinking, that the man took a ring of gold, half a shekel its weight,and two bracelets for her hands, ten of gold their weight;
22 Quando os camelos acabaram de beber, o homem pegou um pendente de ouro pesando seis gramas e duas pulseiras para as mãos dela, pesando cento e vinte gramas de ouro.
23 and said Whose daughter art, thou? I pray thee, tell me. Is there in the house of thy father a place for us to tarry the night?
23 Em seguida perguntou: — Diga-me: De quem você é filha? Será que na casa de seu pai haveria lugar para eu e os que estão comigo passarmos a noite?
24 And she said unto him, Daughter of Bethuel, am, I, son of Milcah whom she bare to Nahor.
24 Ela respondeu: — Sou filha de Betuel, que é filho de Milca e de Naor.
25 And she said unto him, Both straw and fodder in plenty, have we,also a place to tarry the night.
25 E acrescentou: — Temos palha, muito pasto e lugar para passar a noite.
26 Then the man bowed his head, and bent himself down unto Yahweh;
26 Então o homem se inclinou e adorou o Senhor .
27 and said, Blessed be Yahweh. God of my lord Abraham, who hath not withdrawn his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, from my lord,Ibeing in the way, Yahweh led me unto the house of the brethren of my lord!
27 E disse: — Bendito seja o
28 And the young woman ran, and told the household of her mother,according to these words.
28 E a moça correu e contou tudo aos da casa de sua mãe.
29 Now, Rebekah, had a brother, whose name, was Laban,so Laban ran unto the man outside, unto the fountain.
29 Ora, Rebeca tinha um irmão, chamado Labão. Este correu ao encontro do homem junto à fonte.
30 And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister saying, Thus, did the man speak unto me, that he came unto the man, and lo! he was standing by the camels near the fountain;
30 Acontece que Labão tinha visto o pendente e as pulseiras nas mãos de sua irmã e ouvido as palavras de Rebeca, sua irmã, que dizia: “Ele me falou assim e assim.” Por isso foi até onde ele estava e o encontrou em pé junto aos camelos, ao lado da fonte.
31 and he said, Come in. thou blessed of Yahweh,Wherefore shouldst thou stand outside, when I have made ready the house and a place for the camels?
31 E Labão disse: — Entre, bendito do
32 So the man came in towards the house, and ungirded the camels,and there was given him straw and fodder for the camels, and water for bathing his own feet and the feet of the men who were with him;
32 Então o homem entrou na casa. Descarregaram os camelos e lhes deram forragem e pasto. Também trouxeram água para que ele e os homens que estavam com ele lavassem os pés.
33 and was set before him to eat, But he said, I cannot eat, until I have spoken my words. And he saidSpeak!
33 Puseram comida diante dele. Porém ele disse: — Não vou comer enquanto não disser o que tenho para dizer. Labão respondeu: — Diga.
34 Then said he,Servant of Abraham, am I.
34 Então ele disse: — Sou servo de Abraão.
35 Now, Yahweh, having blessed my lord exceedingly, and made him great,and given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels, and asses,
35 O Senhor tem abençoado muito o meu senhor, e ele se tornou um grande homem. O Senhor lhe deu ovelhas e bois, prata e ouro, servos e servas, camelos e jumentos.
36 then did Sarah wife of my lord, bear a son to my lord, after she had become old,so he gave to him all that he had;
36 Sara, mulher do meu senhor, já era idosa quando lhe deu à luz um filho, a quem o meu senhor deu tudo o que tem.
37 And my lord put me on oath saying,Thou shalt not take a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land, I, am dwelling;
37 E meu senhor me fez jurar, dizendo: “Não busque uma esposa para o meu filho entre as mulheres dos cananeus, em cuja terra estou morando.
38 but, unto the house of my father, shalt thou go, and unto my family,and take a wife for my son.
38 Pelo contrário, vá à casa de meu pai e à minha família e ali busque uma esposa para o meu filho.”
39 So I said unto my lord,Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
39 Respondi ao meu senhor: “Talvez a mulher não queira me acompanhar.”
40 And he said unto me,Yahweh, before whom I have walked to and fro, will send his messenger with thee, so shall he prosper thy way, and thou shalt take a wife for my son out of my kindred and out of the house of my father.
40 Ele me disse: “O Senhor , em cuja presença eu ando, enviará o seu Anjo com você e levará a bom termo a sua jornada, para que, da minha família e da casa de meu pai, você traga uma esposa para o meu filho.
41 Then, shalt thou clear thyself from mine oath, for thou shalt go in unto my kindred,and, if they will not grant her unto thee, then shalt thou be clear from mine oath.
41 Você estará desobrigado do seu juramento, caso você for até a minha família e eles não quiserem dar a moça a você; neste caso, você estará desobrigado do juramento.”
42 So I came in to-day, unto the fountain,and I said O Yahweh God of my lord Abraham! if, I pray thee thou art prospering my way whereon am going,
42 — Hoje, pois, quando cheguei à fonte, eu disse: “Ó Senhor , Deus de meu senhor Abraão, leva a bom termo a jornada em que sigo.
43 here, am I stationed by the fountain of water,so then it shall come to pass that, the maiden that is coming forth to draw, and I shall say unto her Let me drink. I pray thee a little water out of thy pitcher;
43 Eis-me agora junto à fonte de água. A moça que sair para tirar água, a quem eu disser: ‘Dê-me um pouco de água do seu cântaro’,
44 and she shall say unto me Both, thou, drink, and for thy camels also, will I draw, the same, shall be the woman whom Yahweh hath appointed for the son of my lord.
44 e ela me responder: ‘Beba, e também tirarei água para os seus camelos’, seja essa a mulher que o Senhor designou para o filho de meu senhor.”
45 Ere yet, I, could make an end of speaking unto mine own heart, lo! then Rebekah, coming forth, with her pitcher on her shoulder, and she went down to the fountain, and drew,and I said unto her Let me drink I pray thee!
45 — Antes que eu acabasse de orar em meu íntimo, eis que veio Rebeca trazendo o seu cântaro sobre o ombro. Ela desceu à fonte e tirou água. E eu lhe disse: “Peço que me dê de beber.”
46 So she hastened and lowered her pitcher from off her, and said. Drink! and to thy camels also, will I give to drink,So I drank and the camels also, she let drink.
46 Ela prontamente baixou o cântaro do ombro e disse: “Beba, e também darei de beber aos seus camelos.” Bebi, e ela deu de beber aos camelos.
47 Then I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said Daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom, Milcah, bare to him,Then put I the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands;
47 Daí lhe perguntei: “De quem você é filha?” Ela respondeu: “Filha de Betuel, que é filho de Naor e Milca.” Então lhe pus o pendente no nariz e as pulseiras nas mãos.
48 and bowed my head and bent myself down unto Yahweh,and I blessed Yahweh God of my lord Abraham, who had led me in a way of faithfulness, to take the daughter of the brother of my lord for his son.
48 E, prostrando-me, adorei o Senhor e louvei o Senhor , Deus do meu senhor Abraão, que me havia conduzido por um caminho direito, a fim de encontrar para o filho do meu senhor uma filha do seu parente.
49 Now, therefore, if ye are dealing in lovingkindness and faithfulness with my lord, tell me,and, if not, tell me, that I may turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
49 Agora, pois, se estiverem dispostos a usar de bondade e de fidelidade para com o meu senhor, digam; do contrário, digam também, para que eu siga o meu caminho, para a direita ou para a esquerda.
50 Then answered Laban and Bethuel and said, from Yahweh, hath come forth the word,we cannot speak unto thee ill or well.
50 Labão e Betuel responderam: — Isto procede do
51 Go! Rebekah, is before thee, Take her and go thy way,And let her become wife unto the son of thy lord, as Yahweh hath spoken.
51 Aqui está Rebeca; leve-a com você e que ela seja a mulher do filho do seu senhor, segundo a palavra do Senhor Deus.
52 And it came to pass when Abrahams servant heard their words, that he bowed himself down towards the earth unto Yahweh.
52 Quando o servo de Abraão ouviu tais palavras, prostrou-se em terra diante do Senhor .
53 Then the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment, and gave unto Rebekah,and precious things, gave he to her brother and to her mother.
53 Tirou joias de ouro e de prata e vestidos e os deu a Rebeca. Também deu ricos presentes ao irmão e à mãe dela.
54 And they did eat and drink he, and the men who were with him, and they tarried the night,and when they arose in the morning, he said Let me go unto my lord!
54 Depois, comeram e beberam, ele e os homens que estavam com ele, e passaram a noite. De madrugada, quando se levantaram, o servo disse: — Permitam que eu volte ao meu senhor.
55 Then said her brother and her mother, Let the young woman remain with us some days or rather ten,After that, she shall go.
55 Mas o irmão e a mãe da moça disseram: — Deixe que ela fique conosco mais alguns dias, pelo menos dez; e depois poderá ir.
56 And he said unto them, Do not hinder me, when, Yahweh, hath prospered my journey,Let me go, that I may take my journey unto my lord!
56 Ele, porém, lhes disse: — Não me detenham, pois o
57 Then said they, We must call the young woman and ask at her mouth.
57 Disseram: — Vamos chamar a moça para ver o que ela diz.
58 So they called Rebekah and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
58 Chamaram, pois, Rebeca e lhe perguntaram: — Você quer ir com este homem? Ela respondeu: — Sim, quero.
59 So they let go Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abrahams servant and his men.
59 Então deixaram que Rebeca, a irmã deles, partisse, junto com a sua ama, com o servo de Abraão e os homens que estavam com ele.
60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister! become thou, thousands of ten thousands,And let thy seed take possession of the gate of them that hate them!
60 Abençoaram Rebeca e lhe disseram: — Que você, nossa irmã, seja a mãe de milhares de milhares, e que a sua descendência tome posse das cidades dos seus inimigos.
61 Then mounted Rebekah and her young woman and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man,so the servant took Rebekah. and went his way.
61 Então Rebeca se levantou com as suas servas e, montando os camelos, seguiram o homem. O servo de Abraão tomou Rebeca e partiu.
62 Now, Isaac, had come in at the entrance, of Beer-lahai-roi,for, he, was dwelling in the land of the South:
62 Ora, Isaque veio de Beer-Laai-Roi, porque morava na terra do Neguebe.
63 and Isaac came forth to meditate in the field at the approach of evening,so he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! camels, coming in.
63 Ao cair da tarde, Isaque saiu para meditar no campo. Erguendo os olhos, viu, e eis que vinham camelos.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and saw Isaac,so she alighted with haste from off the camel;
64 Também Rebeca levantou os olhos e, vendo Isaque, desceu do camelo,
65 and said unto the servant, Who is this man that is walking in the field to meet us? And the servant said, That, is my lord. So she took the veil and covered herself.
65 e perguntou ao servo: — Quem é aquele homem que vem pelo campo ao nosso encontro? O servo respondeu: — É o meu senhor. Então ela pegou o véu e se cobriu.
66 And the servant recounted to Isaac,all the things which he had done.
66 O servo contou a Isaque todas as coisas que havia feito.
67 And Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother; thus he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her,and Isaac consoled himself, for the loss of his mother.
67 Isaque a conduziu até a tenda de Sara, mãe dele. Ele tomou Rebeca, e esta se tornou a mulher dele. Ele a amou; e assim Isaque foi consolado depois da morte de sua mãe.
