1 Here, My Lord, Yahweh gave me to see, and lo! he was preparing the locust, in the beginning of the shooting up of the after-grass,and lo! after-grass, cometh after the mowings for the king.
1 Foi isto que o S enhor Soberano me mostrou numa visão: ele se preparava para enviar sobre a terra um exército de gafanhotos. Isso foi depois que a porção do rei havia sido colhida dos campos, quando brotava a colheita principal.
2 And it came to pass, when they had made an end of eating the herbage of the land, that I saidOh, My Lord, Yahweh, forgive, I beseech thee: By whom shall Jacob, arise? for, small, he is.
2 Em minha visão, os gafanhotos comeram todas as plantas da terra. Então eu disse: “Ó S enhor Soberano, perdoa-nos! Do contrário, não sobreviveremos, pois Israel é muito pequeno”.
3 Grieved was Yahweh, over this,It shall not be, said Yahweh?
3 Então o S enhor voltou atrás e disse: “O que você viu não acontecerá”.
4 Here, My Lord, Yahweh gave me to see, and lo! My Lord Yahweh proclaiming that, the controversy should be settled by fire,which, having devoured the mighty roaring deep, should devour the inheritance.
4 Foi isto que o S enhor Soberano me mostrou em outra visão: ele se preparava para castigar seu povo com um grande fogo. O fogo havia consumido as profundezas do mar e devorava toda a terra.
5 Then said I, My Lord, Yahweh, forbear, I beseech thee, By whom shall Jacob, arise? for, small, he is.
5 Então eu disse: “Ó S enhor Soberano, imploro-te que pares. Do contrário, não sobreviveremos, pois Israel é muito pequeno”.
6 Grieved was Yahweh, over this,Even this, shall not be, said My Lord, Yahweh.
6 Então o S enhor Soberano voltou atrás e disse: “Isso também não acontecerá”.
7 Here, he gave me to see, and lo! My Lord, stationed upon a pinnacle,and, in his hand a plummet.
7 Foi isto que ele me mostrou em outra visão: o Senhor estava em pé, junto a um muro que havia sido construído usando-se um prumo, e segurava o prumo em sua mão.
8 And Yahweh said unto me, What canst thou see, Amos? And I said, A plummet,Then said My Lord, Behold me! fixing a plummet in the midst of my people Israel, I will not again any more forgive him.
8 O S enhor me perguntou: “Amós, o que você vê?”. Respondi: “Um prumo”. Então o Senhor disse: “Provarei meu povo com este prumo. Não fecharei mais os olhos para o que fazem.
9 So shall the high places of Isaac, be made desolate, and, the holy places of Israel, be laid waste,and I will rise up, against the house of Jeroboam, with the sword.
9 Os santuários idólatras de seus antepassados ficarão em ruínas, e os lugares de adoração de Israel serão destruídos; trarei a espada contra a dinastia de Jeroboão”.
10 Then sent Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, unto Jeroboam king of Israel, saying: A conspiracy hath Amos, raised against thee, in the midst of the house of Israel, The land, is not able to endure, all his words;
10 Então Amazias, sacerdote de Betel, enviou uma mensagem a Jeroboão, rei de Israel: “Amós conspira contra o rei aqui mesmo, no meio do povo, falando coisas intoleráveis!
11 For, thus, saith Amos, By the sword, shall Jeroboam, die,and, Israel, shall, surely be exiled, from off his own soil.
11 Assim diz ele: ‘Em breve Jeroboão será morto pela espada, e o povo de Israel será enviado para o exílio’”.
12 Then said Amaziah unto Amos, O seer, go flee thee away unto the land o Judahand eat, there, bread, and, there, mayest thou prophesy;
12 Então Amazias ordenou a Amós: “Vá embora daqui, profeta! Volte para a terra de Judá e ganhe a vida profetizando ali!
13 But, at Bethel, not again, any more, mayest thou prophesy,for, the holy place of the king, it is, and, the house of the kingdom, it is.
13 Não nos incomode com suas profecias aqui em Betel. Este é o santuário do rei e o lugar de adoração de todo o reino!”.
14 Then answered Amos, and said unto Amaziah, No prophet, was I,nor the son of a prophet, was I,but, a herdman, was I, and a preparer of sycamore fruit;
14 Amós respondeu: “Não sou profeta e nunca fui treinado para ser profeta. Sou apenas um boiadeiro e colhedor de figos.
15 But Yahweh, took me away, from following the flock,and Yahweh, said unto me, Go prophesy against my people Israel.
15 Mas o S enhor me tirou de junto de meu rebanho e disse: ‘Vá e profetize a meu povo, Israel’.
16 Now, therefore, hear thou the word of Yahweh,Thou art saying, Thou must not prophesy concerning Israel, nor let thy word drop down upon the house of Isaac.
16 Agora, portanto, ouça esta mensagem do S enhor : “Você diz: ‘Não profetize contra Israel; pare de pregar contra meu povo’.
17 ThereforeThus, saith Yahweh, Thy wife, in the city, will commit unchastity, and, thy sons and thy daughters, by the sword, shall fall, and, thine own soil, by line, shall he apportioned,and, thou, on a polluted soil, shalt die, and, Israel, shall, surely go into exile, away front his own soil.
17 Mas assim diz o S enhor : ‘Sua esposa se tornará prostituta nesta cidade, e seus filhos e filhas serão mortos pela espada. Sua terra será dividida, e você morrerá em terra estrangeira. E o povo de Israel certamente será levado para o exílio, para longe de sua terra natal’”.
