1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples.
1 Dirigindo-se, então, Jesus à multidão e aos seus discípulos,disse:
2 »The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses seat,« he said.
2 Os escribas e os fariseus sentaram-se na cadeira de Moisés.
3 »Obey everything they teach you, but do not follow their example. They say one thing and do something else.
3 Observai e fazei tudo o que eles dizem, mas não façais como eles, pois dizem e não fazem.
4 »They chain heavy burdens on your shoulders. Yet they are unwilling to lift even a finger to carry these same burdens.
4 Atam fardos pesados e esmagadores e com eles sobrecarregam os ombros dos homens, mas não querem movê-los sequer com o dedo.
5 »They do everything to be seen by men. For example: they enlarge their scripture cases for their foreheads and lengthen the tassels on their garments.
5 Fazem todas as suas ações para serem vistos pelos homens, por isso trazem largas faixas e longas franjas nos seus mantos.
6 »They love the place of honor at banquets and the prominent seats in the synagogues.
6 Gostam dos primeiros lugares nos banquetes e das primeiras cadeiras nas sinagogas.
7 »They require recognition in public places and insist on being called Rabbi by men.
7 Gostam de ser saudados nas praças públicas e de ser chamados rabi pelos homens.
8 »Do not be called Rabbi masterteacherleader, for only one is your teacher. You are all brothers.
8 Mas vós não vos façais chamar rabi, porque um só é o vosso preceptor, e vós sois todos irmãos.
9 »Call no man your father on the earth, for only one is your Father in heaven.
9 E a ninguém chameis de pai sobre a terra, porque um só é vosso Pai, aquele que está nos céus.
10 »Do not be called master teacherleader, for only one is your master, and he is Christ.
10 Nem vos façais chamar de mestres, porque só tendes um Mestre, o Cristo.
11 »The greatest among you will be your servant.
11 O maior dentre vós será vosso servo.
12 »He who exalts himself will be humbled. He who humbles himself will be exalted.
12 Aquele que se exaltar será humilhado, e aquele que se humilhar será exaltado.
13 »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You close the kingdom of heaven to people. You do not invite others to enter nor do you enter.
13 Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Vós fechais aos homens o Reino dos céus. Vós mesmos não entrais e nem deixais que entrem os que querem entrar.

14 {Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Devorais as casas das viúvas, fingindo fazer longas orações. Por isso, sereis castigados com muito maior rigor.}
15 »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You travel on both sea and land to make one convert. When this happens, you make him twice as deserving of destruction in the trash fires of the valley of Hinnom Greek: Gehenna.
15 Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Percorreis mares e terras para fazer um prosélito e, quando o conseguis, fazeis dele um filho do inferno duas vezes pior que vós mesmos.
16 »Woe to you, you blind guides! You say, When you swear by the temple, it is nothing. Then you say, When you swear by the gold of the temple, you are obligated.
16 Ai de vós, guias cegos! Vós dizeis: Se alguém jura pelo templo, isto não é nada; mas se jura pelo tesouro do templo, é obrigado pelo seu juramento.
17 »You fools! You blind men! Which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctified the gold?
17 Insensatos, cegos! Qual é o maior: o ouro ou o templo que santifica o ouro?
18 »When you swear by an altar, you owe nothing. When you swear by the gift left on the altar, you are obligated.
18 E dizeis ainda: Se alguém jura pelo altar, não é nada; mas se jura pela oferta que está sobre ele, é obrigado.
19 »You blind men! What is more important, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
19 Cegos! Qual é o maior: a oferta ou o altar que santifica a oferta?
20 »He who swears by the altar, swears by it and everything on it.
20 Aquele que jura pelo altar, jura ao mesmo tempo por tudo o que está sobre ele.
21 »He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him that dwells within it.
21 Aquele que jura pelo templo, jura ao mesmo tempo por aquele que nele habita.
22 »Thus, he who swears by heaven also swears by the throne of God and him who sits on it.
22 E aquele que jura pelo céu, jura ao mesmo tempo pelo trono de Deus, e por aquele que nele está sentado.
23 »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy and faith. You should do both and leave nothing undone.
23 Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Pagais o dízimo da hortelã, do endro e do cominho e desprezais os preceitos mais importantes da lei: a justiça, a misericórdia, a fidelidade. Eis o que era preciso praticar em primeiro lugar, sem contudo deixar o restante.
24 »You blind guides! You strain out the gnat and swallow the camel!
24 Guias cegos! Filtrais um mosquito e engolis um camelo.
25 »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, yet the inside is full of extortion and excess.
25 Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Limpais por fora o copo e o prato e por dentro estais cheios de roubo e de intemperança.
26 »You are blind. Clean the inside of the cup and platter first. Then clean the outside.
26 Fariseu cego! Limpa primeiro o interior do copo e do prato, para que também o que está fora fique limpo.
27 »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs that appear beautiful on the outside. They are full of dead mens bones and uncleanness on the inside.
27 Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Sois semelhantes aos sepulcros caiados: por fora parecem formosos, mas por dentro estão cheios de ossos, de cadáveres e de toda espécie de podridão.
28 »You appear righteous to men. However, inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
28 Assim também vós: por fora pareceis justos aos olhos dos homens, mas por dentro estais cheios de hipocrisia e de iniqüidade.
29 »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You build the tombs for the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous.
29 Ai de vós, escribas e fariseus hipócritas! Edificais sepulcros aos profetas, adornais os monumentos dos justos
30 »You claim that you would not have been involved with your fathers when they spilled the blood of the prophets.
30 e dizeis: Se tivéssemos vivido no tempo de nossos pais, não teríamos manchado nossas mãos como eles no sangue dos profetas...
31 »You witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
31 Testemunhais assim contra vós mesmos que sois de fato os filhos dos assassinos dos profetas.
32 »Fill up the guilt measure of your fathers.
32 Acabai, pois, de encher a medida de vossos pais!
33 »You serpents! You offspring of vipers! How will you escape from being destroyed in the ever-burning fires of the Valley of Hinnom? Greek: Gehenna, the trash fires in the valley just outside of Jerusalem
33 Serpentes! Raça de víboras! Como escapareis ao castigo do inferno?
34 »Look! I am sending you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will torture and kill. Others you will torment and persecute from city to city.
34 Vede, eu vos envio profetas, sábios, doutores. Matareis e crucificareis uns e açoitareis outros nas vossas sinagogas. Persegui-los-eis de cidade em cidade,
35 »You are responsible for all the righteous blood shed on earth. That includes the blood of the righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
35 para que caia sobre vós todos o sangue inocente derramado sobre a terra, desde o sangue de Abel, o justo, até o sangue de Zacarias, filho de Baraquias, a quem matastes entre o templo e o altar.
36 »I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation those living at that time.
36 Em verdade vos digo: todos esses crimes pesam sobre esta raça.
37 »Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you kill the prophets and stone the messengers who are sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings. But you were not willing!
37 Jerusalém, Jerusalém, que matas os profetas e apedrejas aqueles que te são enviados! Quantas vezes eu quis reunir teus filhos, como a galinha reúne seus pintinhos debaixo de suas asas... e tu não quiseste!
38 »Behold, your house is left desolate.
38 Pois bem, a vossa casa vos é deixada deserta.
39 »I tell you, you will not see me until you say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of Jehovah.« (Psalm 118:26)
39 Porque eu vos digo: já não me vereis de hoje em diante, até que digais: Bendito seja aquele que vem em nome do Senhor.
