1 Jesus passed through Jericho.
1 Jesus entrou em Jericó e estava atravessando a cidade.
2 There was an important, wealthy, chief tax collector called Zacchaeus.
2 Morava ali um homem rico, chamado Zaqueu, que era chefe dos cobradores de impostos.
3 He tried to see who Jesus was. Being a short person he could not see over the crowd.
3 Ele estava tentando ver quem era Jesus, mas não podia, por causa da multidão, pois Zaqueu era muito baixo.
4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore fig-mulberry tree near where he would pass by in order to see him.
4 Então correu adiante da multidão e subiu numa figueira brava para ver Jesus, que devia passar por ali.
5 When Jesus came to the place he looked up at Zacchaeus and said: »Come down quickly for today I must visit your home.«
5 Quando Jesus chegou àquele lugar, olhou para cima e disse a Zaqueu:
6 He hurried down to receive him joyfully.
6 Zaqueu desceu depressa e o recebeu na sua casa, com muita alegria.
7 Many in the crowd complained saying: »He is staying with a man who is a sinner.«
7 Todos os que viram isso começaram a resmungar: — Este homem foi se hospedar na casa de um pecador!
8 Zacchaeus stood before Jesus and said: »Lord, I now give half of all my possessions to the poor. If I have defrauded any one I will give back four times the amount taken.«
8 Zaqueu se levantou e disse ao Senhor: — Escute, Senhor, eu vou dar a metade dos meus bens aos pobres. E, se roubei alguém, vou devolver quatro vezes mais.
9 Jesus said to him: »Salvation has come to this house today. He is also a son of Abraham.
9 Então Jesus disse:
10 »The Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.«
10 Porque o
11 They were close to Jerusalem. They assumed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. Jesus responded to their assumption with an illustration.
11 Jesus contou uma parábola para os que ouviram o que ele tinha dito. Agora ele estava perto de Jerusalém, e por isso eles estavam pensando que o Reino de Deus ia aparecer logo.
12 He said: »A nobleman traveled to a country far away to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
12 Então Jesus disse:
13 »He called ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, and said do business with this until I return.
13 Antes de viajar, chamou dez dos seus empregados, deu a cada um uma moeda de ouro e disse: “Vejam o que vocês conseguem ganhar com este dinheiro, até a minha volta.”
14 »His citizens hated him. They sent a spokesman to him saying we do not want this man to rule us.
14 — Acontece que o povo do seu país o odiava e por isso mandou atrás dele uma comissão para dizer que não queriam que aquele homem fosse feito rei deles.
15 »He received the kingdom and went back to check on his servants. He wanted to know what they had gained by trading with the money he gave them.
15 — O homem foi feito rei e voltou para casa. Aí mandou chamar os empregados a quem tinha dado o dinheiro, para saber quanto haviam conseguido ganhar.
16 »The first reported: Your pound has made ten pounds more.
16 O primeiro chegou e disse: “Patrão, com aquela moeda de ouro que o senhor me deu, eu ganhei dez.”
17 »He said: Well done, you good servant. You were faithful in very little. Now you shall have authority over ten cities.
17 — “Muito bem!” — respondeu ele. — “Você é um bom empregado! E, porque foi fiel em coisas pequenas, você vai ser o governador de dez cidades.”
18 »The second said: Your pound, Lord, has made five pounds.
18 — O segundo empregado veio e disse: “Patrão, com aquela moeda de ouro que o senhor me deu, eu ganhei cinco.”
19 »He replied: You should be over five cities.
19 — “Você vai ser o governador de cinco cidades!” — disse o patrão.
20 »Another reported: Lord, here is your pound. I kept it stored in a napkin.
20 — O outro empregado chegou e disse: “Patrão, aqui está a sua moeda. Eu a embrulhei num lenço e a escondi.
21 »I feared you because you are an austere man. You take up what you do not lay down and you reap that which you did not sow.
21 Tive medo do senhor, porque sei que é um homem duro, que tira dos outros o que não é seu e colhe o que não plantou.”
22 »He said to him: Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up that which I did not lay down, and reaping that which I did not sow.
22 — Ele respondeu: “Você é um mau empregado! Vou usar as suas próprias palavras para julgá-lo. Você sabia que sou um homem duro, que tiro dos outros o que não é meu e colho o que não plantei.
23 »Why did you not put my money in the bank? That way I could collect interest when I returned.
23 Então por que você não pôs o meu dinheiro no banco? Assim, quando eu voltasse da viagem, receberia o dinheiro com juros.”
24 »The nobleman said: Take away the pound he was given and give it to him that has the ten pounds.
24 — E disse para os que estavam ali: “Tirem dele a moeda e deem ao que tem dez.”
25 »They said: Lord he has ten pounds!
25 Eles responderam:
26 »I say to you, that every one who has more shall be given. The man who does not have what little he has shall be taken away from him.
26 — E o patrão disse:
27 »Bring my enemies that do not want me to rule over them and kill them in front of me.«
27 E agora tragam aqui os meus inimigos, que não queriam que eu fosse o rei deles, e os matem na minha frente.”
28 After Jesus spoke he went to Jerusalem.
28 Depois de dizer isso, Jesus foi adiante deles para Jerusalém.
29 When he came close to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples.
29 Quando iam chegando aos povoados de Betfagé e Betânia, que ficam perto do monte das Oliveiras, enviou dois discípulos na frente,
30 He told them, »Go into the nearby village. You will find a colt tied. No man has ever sat on him. Untie him and bring him to me.
30 com a seguinte ordem:
31 »If any one asks why you untied him say the Lord needs him.«
31 Se alguém perguntar por que vocês estão fazendo isso, digam que o Mestre precisa dele.
32 They left and found things to be as he said.
32 Eles foram e acharam tudo como Jesus tinha dito.
33 The owners found them when they untied the colt and asked why do you untie the colt?
33 Quando estavam desamarrando o jumentinho, os donos perguntaram: — Por que é que vocês estão desamarrando o animal?
34 They said: »The Lord needs him.«
34 Eles responderam: — O Mestre precisa dele.
35 They brought him to Jesus. Then they threw their garments on the colt and Jesus sat on him.
35 Então eles levaram o jumentinho para Jesus, puseram as suas capas sobre o animal e ajudaram Jesus a montar.
36 As he went, they spread their garments in the way.
36 Conforme ele ia passando, o povo estendia as suas capas no caminho.
37 He was near the descent of the Mount of Olives. The entire crowd of disciples rejoiced and praised God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen.
37 Quando Jesus chegou perto de Jerusalém, na descida do monte das Oliveiras, uma grande multidão de seguidores ia com ele. E eles, cheios de alegria, começaram a louvar a Deus em voz alta por tudo o que tinham visto.
38 They said: »Blessed is the King that comes in the name of Jehovah! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!« (Psalms 118:26; 134:3)
38 Eles diziam: — Que Deus abençoe o Rei que vem em nome do Senhor! Paz no céu e
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, »Teacher, rebuke your disciples.«
39 Aí alguns fariseus que estavam no meio da multidão disseram a Jesus: — Mestre, mande que os seus seguidores calem a boca!
40 He answered: »I tell you if these remain quiet the stones will cry out!«
40 Jesus respondeu:
41 When he came close to the city he wept over it.
41 Quando Jesus chegou perto de Jerusalém e viu a cidade, chorou com pena dela
42 He said: »If you only knew today the things needed to bring peace! But they are hidden from your eyes.
42 e disse:
43 »The time is coming when your enemies will surround you and blockade you with a rampart wall on all sides. They will close in on you.
43 Pois chegarão os dias em que os inimigos vão cercá-la com rampas de ataque, e vão rodeá-la, e apertá-la de todos os lados.
44 »They will knock you and your children down to the ground. They will not leave one stone upon another. Whats more you do not know when this visit will take place.«
44 Eles destruirão completamente você e todos os seus moradores. Não ficará uma pedra em cima da outra, porque você não reconheceu o tempo em que Deus veio para salvá-la.
45 Jesus entered the temple and drove out the merchants.
45 Jesus entrou no pátio do Templo e começou a expulsar dali os vendedores.
46 He said: »It is written my house shall be a house of prayer. You have made it a den of robbers.«
46 Ele lhes disse:
47 Everyday he taught in the temple. The chief priests, scribes and other important men of the people looked for ways to destroy him.
47 Jesus ensinava no pátio do Templo todos os dias. Os chefes dos sacerdotes, os mestres da Lei e os líderes do povo queriam matá-lo.
48 They could not find a way for the people listened to every thing he said.
48 Mas não achavam jeito de fazer isso, pois todos o escutavam com muita atenção.
